No matter what uses they find for nicotene, you're not going to suddenly make smoking healthy, so it wouldn't matter even if the tobacco industry was funding this.
I agree, but most the "beneficial uses" of nicotine to help "...depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, anger management and anxiety." are the reasons most people smoke to begin with!
They are most definitely aware of what's going on. IIRC, autism occurs when the brain develops prematurely kinda leaving no room to grow. Some social/verbal functions may be capped, but the autistic person is still able to learn and grasp new ideas. From what i understood they interpret information differently or can't interpret it at all. I have much to learn obviously, but hopefully the robots can help us communicate to an autistic person.
Have you ever had to care for an autistic child? I was asked to watch over one for maybe half an hour to forty-five minutes. I wasn't prepared for what was to happen next, but i learned a lot. In fact, the kid taught me more than i could even try to teach him. The boy was about 9 years old, but had the mental capacity of a 5 year old. Sadly, that's probably never going to change. One thing to remember is that some autistic children don't speak. They do things largely based on habit. Kinda sounds less ironic if you have something to relate to in order to assist social interaction with other humans.
Then so what? What would we miss if we never knew they existed?
That's the same BS reason said about record companies.. If they didn't exist there wouldn't be any music!! of course there would be bloody music we just wouldn't be forced to put up with the same re-mixed crap over and over and over and over again!
We're missing a lot of things that "don't exist." The real BS here is that without some kind of money it's damn hard to get your game/music out there. Can you front the money for a recording studio session? Do you even know how much they charge an hour?? I'm as tired as you are of the same old shit that is fed to us by the mega corps, but if an indie developer/band needs some kind of sponsor in order to deliver true entertainment, i'm all for it.
Without the money coming from in-game advertising...you may not have the chance to play the game anyway. The extra finances gained through advertising can reduce the risk factor in making a videogame. If companies can make more of a return on cash cow games perhaps they'll have money to make more innovative or obscure (financial risky) videogames.
I remember promises of what Fable was going to be and even looking back at screens that were taken nearly two years before its release. The game looked complete then, but what I played (while still awesome) wasn't what i had originally expected. It was extremely ambitious for its time. Most of what was promised or speculated to be in there was included in the final product, but the way it panned out in-game didn't feel as much of a free-will type of deal. This isn't my gripe about Fable, but merely my prediction that spore will either need lots more time to develop or will eventually be "dumbed down."
"But whenever he began to talk his eyes flashed and every facial movement helped express his idea and feeling. Then involuntarily vanished all thought or consciousness of his uncouth appearance, or awkward manner, or even his high keyed, unpleasant voice."
--Abram Bergen in Intimate Memories of Lincoln
I'll admit there are exceptions, but you gotta work with what you got. Remember that Lincoln struggled greatly as a politician in the beginning. He was lanky and sickly looking without that signature beard of his.
I don't know about you but a commanding voice is very important in leadership. Do you think Dr. Martin Luther King would be as famous if he didn't have the same power behind his speeches? Take America's fearless leader George W. Bush for example. Can you begin to respect a man who sounds like a bumbling fool? What if Leonidas in the movie 300 had a cracking voice like that of a teenage boy? You don't have to sound like James Earl Jones, but an effective communicator is key in leadership. So if you don't happen to have a voice worth listening to you better keep on typing.
I more or less can't remember numbers and don't have any written down. I depend on my mobile (it's SIM card rather) for that. The camera, games, calender, alarms, mp3s, videos, flashlight, timer, bluetooth, internet, SMS, etc. functions are all things i can do without, but why would i want to? My phone isn't a burden. It's a major convenience.
I also pay all my bills online or over the phone (my mobile). I don't have a checkbook or get many bills in the mail. So i either need to get money orders every time or just make a few clicks on a PC. I can go without having my own PC so long as i have access to one when i need it.
I can live without my MP3 player, but it would SUCK driving without music. I don't carry any CD's and hardly any of hte Radio stations play real music anymore.
If I went camping or something i guarantee you i wouldn't use a single piece of gadgetry other than a butane torch.
Information is the crack of todays age. Only problem is it's either free, plentiful or both. Information addiction ranges from MMOs and RSS Feeds to countdowns and refreshing your inbox every minute. My personal opinion is that's a more general addiction not to be narrowed down to gaming. I say this because I feel i suffer from such an addiction. The irony? Reading summaries and posting comments is like a mini "fix."
#2 heating oil. on road diesel. off road diesel. clear diesel. dyed diesel. It's all the same thing. They all burn the same (without additives). They all have a specific gravity of.84. There's just different applications for each "type" of fuel.
The other is FreeRealms, a fantasy title deliberately aimed at non-traditional gamers. It will feature whimsical gameplay and offer users the ability to create their own content, another first for a Massive title.
That...uhhh...sounds like Second Life with a little WoW thrown in for good measure.
I know the reason I play eve is that anything can happen. Other MMOs are pretty streamlined, but Eve's nature and player base allow for some interesting stories. It also helps that the average age of the players is much higher than that of MMOs like WoW.
I'll celebrate the day they make the end all gaming/media player/camera/phone device
Start celebrating! It's called a PC.:P (I'd say Mac too but you mentioned gaming - I kid, I kid!) My bad. i meant portable gaming/media player/camera/phone device and by portable i don't mean laptop.
I'm all for multi-functional devices, but most of them can't do anything well enough for my standards. I'll celebrate the day they make the end all gaming/media player/camera/phone device, but by then i'll be too decrepit to even enjoy it. The PSP is a great little machine, but i prefer my DS, 8GB nano and 2mp Cameraphone combo. Sure, i paid close to $500 for all of it, but atleast they all have outstanding battery life and i'm still portable. Ok, the DS is a little hard to carry with other objects, but in my defense the nano fits (and stays) in my wallet.
just my two vows

That'll teach him!

I don't think that the general populous is willing to drop 100k on a roadster.

broadband penetration? that's what she said!

That's Ludicrous!

Touche. Let me rephrase that. It's like WoW with a bit a Second Life thrown in for good measure.

I...uh...realized that after i posted it. I live in Dallas. Think about it though. Detroit is awfully cramped. North Texas has got TONS of open area.
Personally, I'm offended you compared Dallas to Detroit. I really like this town. Lots of space too!

I see you haven't played EvE Online.
In addition, the controls for NFS: Underground 2 were tighter on the 'cube.
