    it always thought it was when the parthians completely stopped a roman campaign. they managed to capture entire legions (including this one) and ended up shipping them to the other end of the parthian empire (right next to china), before they ended up as mercs.

    good writing is important, for sure, but on the other hand, games like gears of war... you really aren't playing for the sake of awesome writing or story. the entire aim of gow was to have a lot of senseless killing. and chainsaws. being held up in future generations as an example of the golden age all depends on kind of example they're going to be talking about. gow was never going to be held up as an example of exemplary writing. it would be held up as having exactly the kind of writing that a game like gow needs.

    they already have stuff to shoot at cruise missiles. sm-2 and patriot missiles. they've had these for a long time. it's easier to shoot down cruise missiles then ballistics. something about the speeds involved (mach 3 max vs mach 15 or something)

    only if your navy doesn't goes far from shore. Not to mention fixed weapons emplacements seem like a target for the other guy's railguns. you still need to have to way to accurately spot ships out at 200nm. after the first time you fire, they know where you are. oops.

    why would they use it for close support? the entire point of using railguns is so that they can hit stuff really far (in the range of a cruise missile). I'm sure that railguns are going to be used to augment cruise missiles, and not replace them, but I see them as both shooting at targets in the similar range. Just maybe a question of cost effectiveness. Like that whole thing about launching tomahawks at tents and camels. Lob a bunch of railgun shells instead. railguns are a lot more detectable. artillery finding radar should have no problem picking up the shell flying through the air, and tell whatever is standing there to get out of the way. on the other hand, if the thing can't get moved, huzzah! we have a smoking crater!.

    that works fine. except the fact that anti missile bullet is usually a anit missile missile... which also zig zags... granted tomahawks are suppose to be hard to hit (it's my understanding that they fly really low to screw with radar tracking, then pop up in the last few seconds for terminal guidance (not even for the newer pure gps ones).

    it was my understanding that most embasseies try to look like something other than a fortress all the time. not to mention every wall needs a gate. simply going medieval and building a moat, draw bridge and nice strong giant iron/steel gates generally doesn't work well for pr, or many other practical purposes.

    interesting. but how long does it last? and is the 20 pounds of muscle as strong as "real" muscle? is the effect uniform across all the muscles in your body? sorry to sound skeptical, but it really does seem too good to be good. speaking of which, wont you also have to consume insane of amounts of water for this to work. how much of this muscle mass is just water retention.

    that is the rule, usually. the thiefs (at least in the case in the article), forged the owners signature on their power of attorney, and then sold the house. if the purchaser was just part of the scam, then there would be no problem, the owner would get his house back. the problem is that, well to quote the article "Ontario law recognizes the transaction as valid where the purchaser is unaware of the scam", which frankly, is bullshit. find a way to give the purchaser's money back (i know it's not as simple as that though), and give the house back to the owner.

    something like, kill 10%, 10% is a lot, use decimate for whenever a lot is killed, so on so forth, and here we are. now its something closer to 10% left. stuff like that happens all the time when words pick up connotations. look at terrible, terrific. same root, totally different connotations.

    at that rate, you just eliminated almost all of the major aerospace companies. good job. now we'll really have to reinvent the wheel. i mean, right off the top of my head, lockheed has done some bad things. boeing has done more. and whoops, thats pretty much it.

    dunno. since this is dealing with 12 year olds... my parents stopped doing that long before i was 12. in fact, from what i picked up from my parents and my friend's parents is that by the time they're 12, the kids should be doing most of their "learning" at school, or by themselves, and bugging their parents only when they really dont understand their homework or something. and i use quotations cause i mean the knowledge stuff (kinda), not life-skills (although certainly that should also be taught in schools too, but that job falls mostly on the parents). im pretty sure most parents would think putting a laptop in the hands of a five year old is insane/stupid/waste of time and money.

    well, much of the value from printed versions of shakespeare is the wonderful little definitions that they include. makes reading shakespeare for students (highschool) possible without spending forever wondering what this particular metaphor made with rarely used words means. not to mention that a book is a much better way of reading, rather than off a screen, or off a stack of paper (wasn't that the point of books to start with?).

    turns out some people dont mind paying more for the "real", "original", "natural" (etc etc) stuff. that more or less goes for everything. example would be organic crops. also, im pretty sure someone will notice if the "natrual" cow went extinct. once again, for example they're raising hell over GM crops, and they arent even coming close to replacing "natrual" crops any time soon. there may always be a place for the uncloned cow. even if it is still our stomachs.

    the us ability to carpet bomb is basically the same as during the gulf war. the b-52s, b-2s and b-1s are still there. there are less thanks to arrition, but the air force hasn't retired any bombers since the gulf war. the new direction that the airforce is heading is different, especially since carpet bombing doesnt really work well except at turning cities entire cities to rubble.

    im sure the flight crew might notice something. i dont know how the airlines make it work, but i assume that pilot/copilots are generally paired together for a period, so that they work better together. and i believe that for pilots, they almost certainly have time to check the badge. as for stealing the badges, from what i remember from the last time i saw a pilot, it had a picture on it.

    i wouldnt say that. as long as the art is still trying to deliver the artist's message, no matter what it may be, art is just art. the only way art can become less "real" than art is when there is no message, or no intent what so ever, which is truely hard to do. unless of course you count all those poor children making "art" from photoshop filters, from tutorials they found online.

    and if they didn't report they would be labeled as right wing/big oil loving puppets. it's really lose-lose. best to make the best of it and at least try to inform people that not only there's this video floating around, it's also made by a pr company paid by big oil to make al gore look dumb, while pretending to be just another random video, as opposed to just thinking that its just another random video. besides, if the same thing was done, except with an anti-bush or what not video, i bet you would commend the media outlets for "exposing the turth".
