But there lies the problem... YOU don't break the law, it's the user who uses your piece of software that is breaking the law.. If a boss tells me to program an option, and that option could be used for illegal things then it's actually my fault? yeah right, that would mean that every gun-maker is also breaking the law as the gun mostly is used for illegal things anyway (and ofcourse there are more then enough other branches to think of).
It's also like this, we create software for calculating your wages, It's against the law to pay less as minimumwages, our software makes it possible to pay less (because it's just not possible for us to actually know why they pay less because of so many regulations) and we know some of our customers are knowingly stiffing their workers by paying less. Does that make us responsible and accountable?
Just make sure you have it put clearly in your contract what happens to the ownership/copyright of the software you develop for your client.
Hell, even developers who are in employment should make sure they have a clause in their contract that any software developed not during working hours (so with that I mean something you developed at home not for your boss) is yours (copyright/ownership), because if you have a nasty boss he can claim right to anything you have developed at home (mostly this means you've developed something at home and it brings in a lot of money).. Yeah, trust me, some developers have had this nightmare happen to them without them even thinking it is possible.. (the only thing that can prevent you from such a thing is when you do something completely different at work (like driving a bus), then you don't have to worry about stuff like this)..
there never was a revision that had BC through only software, the last incarnation was part hw/part sw.
I agree with you that they should not have removed any feature from the start, but I disagree about not revising the hardware.. The powerconsumption of a slim is far less than of the original Phat in same operation conditions, so that's definitly a win..
Uhm.. all the games you mention haven't got anything 'innovating' it's just a rehash of stuff done before.. That doesn't mean they aren't fun.. I haven't seen a real innovating game for a long time.. but a lot of people just think they are innovating/new because they never played anything older than 5/10 years... It's all been done by now, they only difference is better graphics/physics/AI..
How is it that everytime something is a problem for google (for implementing it, which means it will costs them a lot of money) they say it's a threat to the internet...
I personally think it's a good idea that it wouldn't be that easy to just put anything on the internet, how about when your privacy is in jepardy (like your boyfriend videotaped you and him having sex with only you visible and he promised not to put it on the internet, but because of a breakup he did.. you'll never know until it's too late and it has spread across the net.)
So I do agree that there has to be some form of consent before someone is able to post personal movies like that (or any movie where someone is humiliated or put in a compromising spot)..
Yeah, I was thinking the same... how much ram are we talking about.. and ofcourse which version are they running? 32-bit or 64bit, as people should know that putting more ram as 4GB when running 32bit windows doesn't do anything with the more ram (it can even slow things down.. If you want to use a lot of ram you have to use 64bit windows)...
Why anyone wouldn't put at least 4GB into their computer when running Windows 7 is really beyond me, especially when the price of ram is so low, and the advantages are great...
Well, how far should you go by 'securing' things? how encrypted should you make the passwords, because maybe for you an encryptionscheme can be very difficult, but maybe for someone else it's just like a plaintext storage..
Also who decides what is secure and what not?
And in your case, git will also have it's problems compared to svn/cvs etc....
But at the moment lasers are also an alternative to drills for quite some years now, and are also less invasive/painfull as drills.. But seeing how many dentists here in the Netherlands are using lasers I guess the use of a plasma device will not happen for more than a decade after it is introduced in practices..
So I guess we'll have to remain being scared of the dentist for quite some time...
I always thought Visual Studio already sucked anyway at this. You could turn on prettylisting, but you could not align your declarations and such. Also if one developer had PL on, and the other hadn't your whole source is fubar in one load if you load it into VS with the option on. It's not like they could have figured it out to have an option like the 'Option explicit' line at the start of the file to prevent stuff like this happening..
So I guess this will be the same for this option, if you have set your indent to 2 spaces, and someoneelse has it on 8 spaces your whole code gets fubar again when it is loaded into the otherperson's VS..
It should at least be an option in the project files, and not an option in the user settings of their VS..
Well, you clearly haven't worked in a bigger commercial company, and are far from reality... EVERY OS has a lot of security problems, OSX also has a lot of security issues where it's not deemed secure, Linux has a lot of problems.. So if you really think only MS is a problem you shouldn't be in this business althogether..
I think MS has a good reason to start suing france and germany, as it already has been proven that not only IE is the problem, but also the other browsers like FF/Chrome/safar and opera have the same flaw as it the whole problem also arrises with flash and some other components which are also used by any modern browser.
This is nothing more than really MS bashing...
and as always, you see developers thinking they know best... Since a lot of devices out there still don't support MKV or MP4 (and especially h.264 in whatever kind of container) it's a stupid decision for dropping avi support..It's a common problem with these types of developers who can't see the bigger picture..
yeah, a lot of brand new players support these things now yeah, but not everybody is a morron and buys every new player that gets on the market if their current device is sufficient enough for them...
but then again, it's their creation so thay can do whatever they want with handbrake...
This is about them raping our rights and making more money, any way they can.
One problem, it is not your right to watch their content, it's your privilege.. Music and movies are still considered luxury items, so if you cannot afford them (or find them too expensive) you don't go stealing them, you just wait until it comes along on the telly or the price has dropped to a price you are willing to pay.
Your right is to just ignore their content, and it's their right to ask any amount of money with their own businessmodel as they please.. So they aren't violating any of your (imagined) rights.
You really don't get it, your just one of those dumb people.. a movie is just like a house, a lot of money is poured into it to 'build' it, but a few dumb stupid people think they shouldn't have to pay for it because it's so easy to steal.. well let me tell you that if it would be that easy to steal a car (or any other physical object) those same people would do it immediatly..
Well, that's easy to say if it ain't your income that is being stolen...
Every illegal download is a loss, as normally the only way to legally watch that movie is by paying (or waiting for it to be shown on the telly, but also then the movie has been payed for).. So every illegal download can be counted as a missed sell..
Don't come with that crap like: oh but otherwise I wouldn't have bought it anyway.. You watched it, so you owe them money, even though you might have found it crap...
But sadly that's a concept/reality that is not understood by some people (or they do know it, but act like they don't)..
I'm sorry to say this, but 'good productivity tool'? is all in the eye of the beholder.. personally I don't think tabbed browsing is anything better as seperate windows. And having different windows tabbed together don't seem like a handy tool to me.. but as I said it's all in the eye of the beholder, wahat works for you certainly doesn't mean it works for someone else..
The biggest question for me is: Why now?
Is there something they know and therefore have to debate before it is made being public to the world? because if there would be such news it would be in the best interest for 'the church' to first have a believable reaction/interpretation of the bible before such news is made public, as it concerns a pretty big group of humans which believe in such fictional work as the bible. And ofcourse those lemmings (uh i mean people) would also maybe wonder about their faith, which can result in panic and mayhem if it isn't dealt with correctly..
Guess who's next book isn't going to be published by a real publisher... LOL..
If he thinks he gets too few money per book he can always publish his next book himself, I guess he just forgets all the other costs after he gets his share.. ofcourse there is a huge profit margin for the publisher, but lets not forget that it's not easy to do the publishing yourself, it takes a lot of effort and money to publish a book..
And ofcourse as I said if he doesn't agree then publish it yourself..
AND, he thinks he owns the copyright of the text, but I bet he didn't read the contract which mostly mean he owns the copyright, but he can't publish it for free without permission from the publisher.. Read your contracts BEFORE you sign anything... but hee I guess he was just happy someone wanted to publish his book.. but then again, who wants to read his book anyway;P
As long as countries like the US (which actually is the only country who has ever used nukes when it even wasn't really necessary) still have nukes, any other country has just as much right to nukes as the US.. So until the US actually stops producing nukes themselves they should shut the hell up and not threaten other countries..
And why isn't anybody complaining about isreal which also have nukes but aren't allowed to have some, why aren't they doing something about that..
I already hate the Ribbon in Outlook2007 as it takes waaaaay too much space, and for me it doesn't get me things done faster as with a regular menu/buttonbar. So I definitly hope it will be optional when they implement it as ribbons are one of the most stupid UI 'enhancements' ever.
ahhh, so it's perfectly safe to put a cat/dog in a microwave oven, as it's only some radiowave's.. cool, I'll remember that next time my cat/dog is wet...
Don't count this out as rubbish, as a lot of people are experiencing more illness (like headaches and dizzyness) who live close to those towers as people who don't.. And there still hasn't been good research on the longterm problems of being exposed to those 'microwaves'.. Let's not forget the Highvoltage powerline problems, which we never knew about and always thought weren't harmfull, but now we know differently.. and this isn't the first case of such a thing, another one is 'asbestos' and smoking...
You really can't compare the thomas case with this, as you really don't know what was in the contract... Maybe his contract actually was for 7 albums and during that time he was under contract of Sony, which means (at least if you are a worker for a boss) that all numbers created under that contract belong to Sony even if they weren't put on the albums (sony paid for the recordingsessions for example).. So only Sony and him are actually aware of what the contract entails.. and let's not forget he sees the contract ofcourse differently than Sony does...
When does something obvious and simple like this become newsworthy for placing on slashdot? This is nothing special or new...
Just make sure you have it put clearly in your contract what happens to the ownership/copyright of the software you develop for your client. Can George Lucas' new Star Wars TV series, the first Star Wars spin off with real actors, atone for the flawed follow-ups to his original classics?
It actually would be the SECOND spin off with real actors..... There were two Ewok movies....
