I do agree with the parent post, but the problem with wealth is that
most often it is gained with 'exploatation' of those that do not have many options left. Which makes that gaining wealth & independence is indirectly involved with 'stealing' a part of someone elses independence
In the context of choosing the right country that would appease my conscience I would say it would be the one that:
a. does not exploit other nations (wars, neo -colonialism)
b. allows equal rights of acces to the labor market to any individual on its soil (foreigner or not)
I actually got in a fight with my girlfriend about recycling. She, like you, seems to think that it is the civilized thing to do.
I on the contrary think that:
- the large industries should lead the recyling game. Local home recycling is just scratching the problem.
- recycling glass, is not really recycling. glass is made from rocks. glass = rocks. I am not going to make some
recycling company profit on an " I am saving the planet " modern days hype. I may recycle glass if they pay me for it.
- I am throwing away just all things I don't need. Tons of that carton ambalage that comes with my products is really
unnecessary. I'd prefer if they actualy taxed the producers for creating junk containers rather than fining me, the poor consumer.
So yes, I won't be bothered to recycle, please don't tax me for my garbage or you'll see it in public parks....but i do think that they are just planning to weight garbage for now. But I dont see what is to stop them from 'reading' consumers habits and selling them in the future. Your ad supported, green recycled, loyal citizens, garbage can is on the way...

and you CUT the extra profits (meaning no or largely less extra surplus at the end of the year & no dividende for the shareholders)
You open up & publish your bussines strategy = best & cheapest service with no extra profits = clients pay only the real cost of the product. You open your real expenses and challenge the market for better offers. Open Source? Well, your functioning is transparent & open, you let anyone with a better idea/offer than you rather join you than try to defeat you.
This way, the clients get a fair product for a fair value. No employee is exploited but (is) a service to the people beeing (decently) pâid at the same time.
No (extra profit, dividende oriented company) can be competitive to your cheapest products. you win they loose, you take over. Replicate this to an other sector
Gain? If your (ex) shareholders don't kill you in time you will have just the moral satisfaction to make something like this functioning to the overwhelming gratitude of your numerous users/clients.
Equality in decisions? It never existed & it never should. Just let people do what they're good at.
