1. for some reason GIMP developers decided every single thing needs its own window and its own menu bar. It's weird as f*ck: put the entire layout in a single window with integrated panel layout (similar to how Eclipse does it, for example).
You can dock windows together (except I don't think the image windows). When I use gimp I typically have 2 windows open, one for the image and one containing all of the toolbox, layers and current tool options. It works fine for me. Perhaps they should have a better default setup though.
No one mentioned the External Editor extension yet? Nice to be able to kick off your favorite editor without cut-n-pasting. Something every mail client should have, but maybe I'm just old fashioned.

This is not the PalmSource/ACCESS Linux platform, it is something new. Apparently they have been working on it for a few years. More info at

Easy! The Elite should have included a DVD changer so you can stick all the discs in and let it switch around as needed. That would show those blu-ray goons.
Great, i lost my leftover mod points this morning. These are interesting questions beyond all the "why should i buy one" variants popping up. Mod parent up!
So if a game is available for both Windows and Linux and the Windows version support Windows Live would linux and windows folks still be able to play together? I don't mean Windows Live support for Linux but will they just be able to play on the same servers together?
On another note, I wish different consoles could play together when the same game is released for them.
No they didn't. People keep repeating this but it isn't true. The first batch of ps3's came with a free blu-ray movie in the box (Talladega Nights), not a coupon. I don't know how many ps3's included the movie but I don't think they are still in there. They did come with discount coupons though. But I forget what exactly they were for.
Probably true. I always thought they should just let you mount an smb (or nfs:-)) share and use it. No need for Home Server. But if they can tie in one of their other products, why not?
I believe HDCP is in hardware. Basically when you hook two HDCP components together they negotiate a key and encrypt everything. The content isn't involved.
On the other hand the Image Constraint Token is a flag that says to downgrade video that isn't going over an HDCP connection. I don't think it has anything to do with switching HDCP on or off.
But on OSX you still have to move the mouse back to the top of the screen to use the menu after focusing the application. On other systems when you move to the other window the menus are right there. I have not used OSX much but I can see where it would seem tedious if you were doing a lot of back-and-forth between application menus. (yes, i know about fitts law.) Of course on windows if you are using the task bar at the bottom to focus windows then you still have to move the mouse back to the menus anyway, so in that case there isn't much difference.
Personally I love the Gimp. I've never used Photoshop, Gimp does everything I need. But I've got to agree here, the lack of simple ellipse and rectangle tools is my only complaint. They are such basic things it just seems rediculous to leave out. Two extra buttons in the toolbox isn't going to hurt anyone and it would improve usability quite a bit.
It amazes me that the head of the elections board can be in an election they are running. Why is this allowed? Any truly ethical person would excuse themselves from one or the other, but then this is politics. BTW, I'm in Ohio too...

Here is a list of known exclusive titles. But of course many don't have release dates yet. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=85 8296

The PS2 version supported a widescreen option for 16:9 TVs so maybe the Wii version will inherit it.
how about radio stations that never repeat? :-)

Right, the ICT flag is not set so you can get HD over component cables. No need for HDCP. That's what I said.
That is quite different than including a free blu-ray coupon with all PS3s.
I believe the encryption is on (HDCP). What is not enabled is the downgrading of the video when not using the encrypted path (ICT).
LG announced a dual format player available first quarter 2007.

My local video rental shop is renting PS3 titles now.

That's how I understand it anyway...

Of course they are still ungodly expensive. I hope people realize you can use any HDMI cables.

On the PS2 you can use the controller to control dvds. I presume the same will be true for PS3 for those that don't want the remote.
If the vibration interfered with a game then the developers don't have to use it! It isn't like the thing just rumbles by itself.
