  1. Interestign numbers on PSP, PS2 Sales Skyrocket · · Score: 1

they are selling 2-3x the amount of hardware and software then they did at the same time last year for the PS2 and PSP (all of this is for USA/Canada). I honestly don't see any reason WHY.

IT has nothing to do with people wnatign a PS3 and setteling for a PSP/PS2, as that is just faulty logic. It might be people buying PS2/P when little timmy wants a PS3 (but that does not really seem like sound reasoning to me either).

Mabey it has something to do with the 360 already being out for a year now. I am willing to bet that the introduction of the 360 into the market hurt sony/nintendo hardware sales during that time, and thus also game sales.
The same could be said about the PSP and the DS, the PSP launched a few months before the DS and thus people already had picked it up, and their games. Then, intime for the holiday season, Nintendo released the DS.

What about there being better games out?
Yah, PS2 has some great games out atm, did it lack in games last holiday season? honestly not sure, can any one vouch for/against that?
PSP? Not that I know of. As far as I can tell the PSP still has lack luster games, jsut like last year.

any one got some better ideas?

Yes, Nintendo is not goign for bleeding edge tech, instead they gor for games and profit, and b/c of this they make money.

The little 1up article is much more interesting. They see the XBox starting to MAKE money in the next 2 years, last I saw they were not planing on actualy makign money via the xbox for awhile yet, this sounds like the 360 really has been the shot in the arm that MS needed to actualy enter the market and start making money out of it.

    Disclamers:
I am a nintendo fanboy, and thus rather familiar with the ups and downs nintendo has gone through. I also bashed the Xbox and loved the PS2. However with this generation I am really looking at the 360 as a great system, though my $$ is still with nintendo. I would personaly rank the 360 and the Wii as rather equal interms of fun that can be gotten out of them, however the $ required to get aid fun is MUCH lower on the side of the Wii. I rank the 360 and Wii well above the PS3 simply due to a lackluster showing of games beign announced.

  7. Nice idea, but it will not work. on Steam Should Be a Seperate Company? · · Score: 3, Insightful

The reason why Steam is popular is because it is tied in with a few KEY products (CS, and to a lesser extent HL2) that get people to regularly use the service, and be comfterable with it.

There ARE other companies out there that will sell you digital copies of games (Direct2Drive from IGN, Gamestop sells them, XBoxLive Arcade, and gametap is sorta in there). However they don't have a service that gives you a plat form for a way of accessign your content, a chat interface, and a server browser exept for XBLA (well, I dono, does gametap?).

I don't expect to see that many A Line games showing up as first runs on Steam because it is feedign the "competitor", however we are seeing alot of "indy" games like Darwinia showing up on Steam at (or shortly after) launch.

I used to work in an icecream shop in a college town, all of the college kids (my self included) had debitcards, and never caried cash. The guy who ran the store did get a CC machine, but placed a $5 minimum, as he literaly would lose money on each transaction otherwise.

we also had a guy who was blind (worked for the college) that came in relatively frequently. It was not uncommon for one of us to pick out the proper bill from his wallet, or let him know just what he had, otherwise he just worked on memory of what he had, and hoped people were honest with him.
