I would call it the "business likes to have the biggest E-Wang", or possibly "business is dumb and vendors are scum", or anything nicely jaded will do.

He wasn't even indited (aka, it never went to trial, a grand jury decided that there was not enough evidence to try him).

IIRC, there was a DBZ game at release that actually did this. I think the basic attacks were done via button presses, however the special moves required you to imitate the character's moves. I never actually played it but it was amusing to watch people try it out at the Nintendo store.

However, I expect that is about as detailed as we will ever see in that line of development. The Wii controls are not nearly as sensitive as would be required to actually map a full set of moves to equivalent movements by the players.

Actually all it requires is for the websites that do not want anonymous postings to require some sort of real life identification. There is no need to centralize this, and Brady didn't say that it needs to be centralized, just that he wants it.

To be perfectly honest I see no problem with this. It is your damn web page, you can run it as you see fit. IF you want only authorized posters then require some sort of identification (CC/Drivers license, SS, what have you), and then ban the sod that breaks your rules. And he is correct, that practice would eliminate the type of people you don't want on your web page, obviously it would also eliminate a large group of people that don't want to share that info/CBA to go through a registration system like that.

Again, his web page, he can do what ever he wants. In fact, the best way to do it for him would be to link it directly to newspaper subscriptions. You want to use our service? You pay us for it. You break the rules? We ban you.

Again, just one way of dealing with user comments, and we are all free to not use his webpage if we don't like it.

    I could call them PollRadios!

Yah! I am going to make MILLIONS!

So, seriously, what is the point of these balloons? I mean, I could see usages for it where you need to saturate an area with radio for a temporary time (for an always on type thing this just sounds way to cost prohibitive). Something like when if you have a manhunt (lost person/criminal/I don't care) going on in a wilderness area you could set up some sort of network with these things so that searchers could be in constant contact, and such.

  12. Re:If comcast wants to do this on Comcast Defends Role As Internet Traffic Cop · · Score: 5, Insightful

    The argument here is this:

ISPs are currently not liable for what illegal things their customers do with the service provided.
One of the reasonings behind this is that they should not be mining traffic enough to know wth is going on. (IANAL, this is a bad explanation)
Comcast says that they SHOULD be mining traffic to shape it and see wth is going on.
Comcast should then be held liable for any illegal activities that they 'know' about because of this monitoring.

    get it now?

Personally, I don't know if I agree or disagree. Mostly because I don't really understand how much monitoring they are doing, and just what the legal grounds are that protect the ISPs currently.

On the note of them shaping traffic? I have not much of problem with Comcast shaping traffic as they see fit, well, at least now that they admit it. They are a company and can do what ever the hell they want so long as it is with in the law, and does not defraud/mislead customers/potential customers. I will never use their service, but I still think they are allowed to do what they want. Only problem is that many people have no choice, and there it IS a problem.

Honestly, I am not sure how I feel about boarder inspections. Yes, they are important to some degree (it IS illegal to traffic in certain things). However, they should also have a good REASON to search you.

If we accept them doing random stops and searches (I honestly don't know how I feel about this), or if they have good reason to stop and search you, then I have no problem with them searching your laptop as well. They obviously should not keep records of ANYTHING found in there (unless breaking a specific law), however searching a laptop when you are already searching the person/car for somethign that likely could be found on the laptop? why not?

All in all, I dono. It seems a slippery slope problem, but it also seems relatively reasonable (Again, assuming there is a good reason for the search in the first place)
