I don't really follow the smartphone scene, but aren't there some Android-based phones that currently can't be upgraded to a later OS version? Are owners of those phones just less secure, or are there patches available, if not full upgrades?
I think the true power of the PS3/Cell will be it's longevity.
Look at the PS2. Now look at the 1st gen games for it versus some of the latest ones. The differences are huge, and they are due purely to better programming techniques (same hardware.) I've no doubt that the PS3/Cell will have a similar lifespan.
Also, I know it discussed in almost every tech generation of consoles, but this time it might be true: Is the hardware finally good enough? This may be directly influenced by the popularity of Flash-based and iPhone games. Is the game market still being driven by the faster-polygon-pushing race? Maybe not..
I bought a new $330 15.6" dual-core Acer laptop from Wal-Mart on Sunday and without even booting to Windows 7, I inserted a Linux Mint 9 CD, formatted the HD, installed the OS and had a fully-working laptop with video, sound, 3D, wireless, and webcam working 100% without even a single reboot or driver download.
I've been using a similar set-up for the last 9 months or so.
- 24/7 Linux box (My main desktop PC)
- t.e.d. (Java-based Torrent Episode Downloader - searches eztv and many other torrent site, using filters to get the shows you define.)
- Deluge (Bittorrent client set to check a folder for new torrents added by ted)
- tvnamer (perl app that renames TV show files to a format you decide, using TVdB for episode names)
String it all together with some scripts and cron jobs (to automate file renaming/moving and to restart java apps nightly)
Attach a device running XBMC with a Logitech remote and you're set. I'm currently using an actual modded Xbox, but plan on upgrading to a $200 Atom-basded nettop for HD output. (Acer AspireRevo)
.. went out of their way to paint McCain as a senile old man and Palin as a crazy country bumpkin.
If by "went out of thier way," you meant "turned the cameras on and stepped back," then I agree with you completely. You can't blame everything on the media, the dancing monkeys on TV performed their act as well.
Is this a troll? Months and months of play and you only hit level 12? It takes less than 2 hours to get to level twelve, if playing casually. About 1, if you solidly kill and run quests.
The Anandtech site (and forums) have been experiencing lots of network issues as of late, ranging from DDOS attacks to up-stream ISP problems. The sudden onslaught of/. viewers may have caused someone to panic and hit the 'choke' button, or it may simple be that this is the first real exercise the network has received since its recovery and updates.
I've only left the US on 2 occasions, once on a drive to Mexico and again on a cruise around the Carribean. I've never had a passport and one was not required to re-enter the US on either occasion.
When did they do it the first time? I mean, did any of these people even play the first Halo? Cooperative play on the XBox was pretty cool, but other than that, it as a bland and boring game with bland and boring graphics, sounds, weapons, gameplay, etc.
Doesn't Boba appear in post RotJ works (books, games, etc.) I'm not up to snuff on my SW canon, but how is that addressed? Jet-packed out off camera or something?
I think it's akin to the "Neon Sign" model. If you put up a neon sign, your business will be more prominent and might gain more customers. That is, until every business on your block does the same thing and your sign no longer stands out. In fact, the whole area becomes such an eyesore that nobody wants to even look in your general direction. Same things SPAM and Adware.
Wouldn't spinning the mouse around 180 be a lot easier and more convenient than physically looing behind you? There's probably even a "turn 180" action you can bind to a key.
Actually, I'm faily certain that was a "Doom III is dark as hell" joke. And you should never say never. Trying to create a network bridge with my LAN and wireless AP makes XP Pro crash hard every single time. It's good, not perfect.
Most people can't even begin to grasp how vast and old the universe is. Why should we trust these same peoples' "intuitions" that we are alone in it? That was an absurd comment, even if it was a First Post.
Even the low-budget "Sempron" chips beats a 3.0GHz P4. Not even the 3.4GHz EE P4 can stand up to a 2.2GHz Athlon64 3500. Or was the phrase "all but the newest" supposed to rule out AMD chips introduced in the last 12 months? Spread your FUD elsewhere..

I don't see it getting much easier than that.
I think it happened at 4.87, actually..

Mine was at a full desktop in 12 seconds - much, *much* faster than my host Ubuntu install.

I'm rich, bitch!

Indeed, whole *cities* are being designed around the thing!

Documentary? Bah.. in that case Cameron's "Titanic" would be the most popular documentary of all time. Can you deny that the ship sank?
I think they had some problems with getting all their splines reticulated correctly.

But then they are "encouraging" you to sign, not forcing you. Like one poster asked, "What are they gonna do to you?"

Here's my first "Mod Parent Up" post! Whee!

What planet are you from to believe that a 3GHz P4 "stomps all over(perhaps all but the very newest) AMD offerings" ??
Have you read any benchmarking articles inthe last year or so?

LOL!
I.. ummm.. was counting 0000-9999.. yeah, that's it!
Heh, yeah, I screwed that one.
