Yes, I did think about it. I have never seen any $ figures on the cost difference, and generally the 'green' treehugger types who push this sort of agenda only care about the 'green' and not at all about the '$'. One would think that if was really cheaper a lot of someones would be blaring cost comparison/savings figures loud and often to get the public behind it in a big way...and no one is.
Generally things that are 'better for you' seem to cost more, and for no good reason, either. Go to the grocery store. Anything that is 'healthy' or 'diet' or 'low ' is almost always more '$' than the 'regular' same item.
What is the cost to fully recharge an electric car? I could give a crap about 'green' if it's going to cost me more to drive than good old gas. I'd rather pay for gas than have my electric bill go through the roof.
The answer i keep looking for, and never seeing is - what will my electric car do to my electric bill? I'd much rather pay double for gas than triple for electricity. I can see the electric companies drooling over this now.
Basically, if its going to cost me more money than what I already spend, I don't want it. Since I never hear about its going to save me money, or cost no more, I can (probably) safely assume that its going to cost me a lot more.
Does anyone know how often the maps get updated, or if ever? I started building my new home over a year ago, and have been living in it 7 months now, but the maps of the entire area are still obviously several years old. I know this because there are several entire neighborhoods that have been built up over the last 5 years that are not there either. This is on both Google maps and earth.
That's right! Especially if you were never going to purchase it for any reason whatsoever anyway. They still have the cd to sell that you were never going to buy. Flame me, I dare you!
Don't forget the elaborate memory map, especially for the hardware types! All you needed to know was memory location 4. From there you could access anything anywhere!
Oh, pl-ease! "... the technical work in movies is the best it's ever been...." Not if you are counting that every movie since "The Matrix" HAS to have 'bullet time' and crap like that. 'Ooooo! Look, there's something shiny over here, this must me an awesome movie!' It's more like the 70's and 80's, where every 'explosion' on TV had to look like the damned 4th of July. You ever see a grenade or generic bomb explode? No such thing, but Joe Public likely believes it is that way, thanks to the losers in charge.
The USA is made up of 50 STATES, not 80 million people. People live in a STATE. What matters is that each STATE has an equal stake in the matter. There should be exactly 50 electoral votes, 1 per state. You should have to get the majority in at least 26 states to win the election. The other 48 states should not have to suffer the consequenses because of the idiocy of a bunch of people in NY and CA, just because all the lunatics tend to gather in those 2 places, to use an over-simplistic example.
This is all part of the age old argument that gave us both population-based representatives and state based senators.
Don't the retailers buy the games up front from the publisher?, in which case the game creator has already 'sold' the game regardless of whether it leaves the retailor shelf or not...
Or is it a "let me put my game in your store and if you sell it you get a piece of the action"?
I really think there were 2 basic problems. I live in the midwest, and I have NEVER seen them on a commercial as far as advertising goes... As a matter of fact, I had never even heard of them until I saw them mentioned here on/. a couple of years or so ago. Since then I began 'looking' for them in the stores I frequent. I actually saw one in a store...once. I belive it was at Best Buy, and it was kind of tucked away on a bottom shelf at/near the PSX/XBox/Gamecube section. My son has never mentioned them to me either, which leads me to believe that there has been little or no advertising for them on the various kids channels either.
Bottom line, lots of advertising (on TV especially), and put them prominently on the shelf in the Lego/Bionicle section at WAL-MART, and they may well have succeeded!
I couldn't have said it better myself! Flash blows. Period. I avoid it like fresh cowpiles. Businesses that use it lose out twice with me. I don't buy from them, and they had to buy the horrid product.
"...Making excuses for these people is pointless. If you paid thousands of dollars to learn Differential Equations and got a gibbering 24 year old who barely understands them himself and can even more barely speak your language to explain it, you just got robbed...."
That wasn't too bright letting this link from his letter get into the wild. I suspect this guy's calendar will be entirely clogged with mass amounts of appointments for quite a long while from mischievious slashdotters and their friends:
"...Please take a moment to visit My Calendar http://www.appointmentquest.com/provider/201022492 7> online to schedule a convenient time for me to contact you...."...and they're off!:)
Just get all the game publishers to make ALL their games rated AO, then it isn't a problem. If Best Buy or Game Stop wants to stay in the business of selling games, let the parents come in and buy them in the first place. No exceptions. Rate Mario, Pac Man, and everything else AO...after all, I believe it is still a voluntary rating system isn't it?
Damn! Can I use that, basically in its entirety, the next time I need to spell out my own political positions? The only real difference with me is that as someone who has several prescriptions of my own, and kids who need them on occasion, I am absolutely sure that prescription prices are WAY out of line.
Back when the Apex 1500 came out 4 of us at work rushed to Circuit City to get one because of the price and firmware upgrades that were available, etc. 1 of us got a good one the first try, 2 of us got a good one the second try, and the other poor slob got a good one on his 4th try. Mine then proceeded to work good for a little over a year. Now, if it plays anything at all, it will almost always freeze or pixellate sometime during the movie, requiring a power-cycle at the least to finsh the movie.
Don't know if is was the model, the brand, or just a bad palletful, but since then I got my 2 kids those $39 at Walmart Cyberhome DVD players. Got good ones the first try there, but they both quit playing reliably after less than a year. Maybe there's something to be said for the more expensive DVD players?
In contrast my cheap VHS player is about 10 years old and plays like it was new...

Both ways are equally bad.

You are wrong. There are NO good politicians....or lawyers either, for that matter.
Apple SUCKS again, as usual...
This is a non-issue because -
"Most people, I think, don't even know what a SONY is, so why should they care about it?"
"...Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure..."
"...I'm sure McDonalds can't afford to give away a $200 gaget with the purchase of a $3 meal...."
Why not? They have no trouble selling a $.05 cent meal for $3 all day long!
Don't the retailers buy the games up front from the publisher?, in which case the game creator has already 'sold' the game regardless of whether it leaves the retailor shelf or not...

I use nano/pico all the time! It's small, fast, has NO learning curve, and perfect for editing small files, which is 90% of all I ever edit anyway.
Gawd! Just this one paragraph says it all!
"...Making excuses for these people is pointless. If you paid thousands of dollars to learn Differential Equations and got a gibbering 24 year old who barely understands them himself and can even more barely speak your language to explain it, you just got robbed...."
Not only robbed, but pistol-whipped into a coma!

Me thinks that would just result in even more rediculous patents being issued even faster...

They may be confused, but they are intelligent enough to know that the other party was going to be even worse for them.

Zork me, baby! I'm the Wizard of Froboz!
:)
I spent more time on those games generally having a great time, than I've spent on any game since. That ASCII text was simply captivating, too!
