Re:If something is "offensive", GET A THERAPY.
a human operator doesn't have The Scunthorpe Problem.
A human operator can absolutely have The Scunthorpe Problem. All it takes is a misunderstanding of what the other person was saying. The comic strip Pickles had a strip a long time ago where the grandmother mentioned wearing a thong and the mother was all shocked, until it is revealed that flip-flops were once called thongs. Unfortunately this strip was all I could find.

So True
I didn't wise up about work until I reached my early 40s, so I am a bit of late bloomer. Until then I previously held a series of post-college crap jobs until I landed my first (and only) "real job" when I was 33. For the first few years I was enthusiastic and truly enjoyed the work. But enthusiasm slowly turned to ambivalence which then became disillusionment and finally active disengagement. I became the living embodiment of Wally, Dilbert's slacker co-worker, as I no longer gave a shit about the company and the job. Ultimately, I got laid off along with several others in my department and now I'm enjoying a phat severance package as well as making some money from my dividend investment portfolio.
My point is this: Don't work for the sake of working. You can always make more money but you can't make more time. Early retirement should be your overarching goal. It can be done, as many people have proven it. Just research FIRE (Financially Independent Retired Early) and your eyes will be opened to what's possible. When you no longer *need* to work and are in a position to do the work you *want* to do, the world becomes a lot more brighter.

Re:'Developed a Clear Preference' For Trump
Your are not thinking the right way about those pieces of evidence. The dilbert comics summarize well you way of thinking. You cannot exclude evidence one by one. You have to consider the pieces as a whole. Every piece taken individually is statistically weak.
Here, you have to estimate the probability that the hacking was perpetrated by Russia vs not given the evidence 1, evidence 2, etc. (given some evidence are in favor of Russia, other not). If P[Russia|E1,E2,..., EN] / P[Not Russia|E1,E2,..., En] is greater than 1, then Russia is the most probable. P[Russia|E1,E2,..., EN] is estimated, by Bayesian inference given the estimation (not an easy thing, based on past hacking done by Russia) of P[E1|Russia], P[E2|Russia],
..., P[En|Russia].You have to consider evidence as a whole.

Re:How?
And so can a kid. It's been a long time ago (33 years) but when I was 11-12 I had a VERY good concept of programming and how to tinker. The internet wasn't really a thing in most households yet but I still knew computers, and most kids these days do too - even moreso.
You, and this strip of Dilbert, absolutely nailed it.

Re:There is no cure for absolute fucking stupidity
"As you've noted - most men won't qualify for the U.S. Marines. But that's a false standard and it presupposes that because someone can, they would wish to (I note that qualifying as a Marine doesn't mean you automagically qualify as a Ranger, no disrespect to Marines)."
I think you have it backward.
It's your view, and you're welcome to it. If that's regimental pride I salute it. If, as is more likely, it's a groupie thing, or an undisciplined desire to give an opinion, you're just an idiot that argues without good reason. In the latter case try chewing gum if you need jaw exercise.
Just because you qualify as a Ranger, doesn't mean you can qualify with the Marines.
I never said it did, or that the analogy wasn't reversible. They have different purposes - only idiots that qualified for neither debate about which is better. Both Rangers and Marines (which encompasses a range of special units) do have demonstrated the capability to meet general infantry standards (does context elude you, or did your lips get sore?). Both points are what you failed to grasp. Probably because you have a habit of not bothering to pay attention.
Nit picking is nothing to be proud of when razors and medicated treatments are available.
There are many anecdotal stories of an army company or battalion calling for relief, and waiting for a division to come in. A squad of marines shows up, announcing, "We are your relief, Sir!"
True. Heart swelling even. But not relevant.

Re:Two of my prayers for FireFox Improvement
Thanks thewils,
You are correct of course. IE needs massive faith. As far as prayer. Is it a futile exercise to pray for the devil? Would it do any good? Or would that cause a "Lio Effect"?
