Other Apps too!
So I have had a replaced lockscreen on my HTC One (M7) for a few months now. It's really annoyed me but I was too lazy to find out what was doing it. I had assumed it was HTC or my phone provider and was just 'happy' being annoyed about it.
Then when I saw this article, I thought it may have been the problem but, alas, I had already removed ES File explorer previously.
It got me to looking and I found out that it was in fact the TouchPal keyboard app doing it on my phone. - http://forums.androidcentral.c...
While I was searching for the above, I found some other apps that had apparently done the same. Dirty dirty dirty

Re:And Apple doesn't have it
this strength of AMOLED is something Tim Cook was spreading FUD about last year
This is what Tim Cook said about OLED in Feb 2013 (not last year):
When you look at displays, some people are focused on size. There’s a few other things about the display that are important. Some people use OLED displays, the color saturation is awful.
In fact, reading articles from back then, over-saturation was a problem for AMOLED displays. Since that time OLED technology has worked on many of the shortcomings including contrast, saturation, and cost. However not all OLED displays are equal as the Android forums have noted as a few months ago. I don't see that as FUD.

Re: Nexus aren't satisfactory
Which fact do you believe was not factual? Given you posted "made by LG, bootloader unlocked" I would think you are alluding to this comment:
most come with locked bootloaders
This is a fact (which by definition is correct). The Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 all come with locked bootloaders, in fact there are even articles on that very subject:

Re:Good luck ...
CyanogenMod and Microsoft are getting a little too close for comfort. http://www.androidcentral.com/...
However, the last version I used (6 mo. ago) was very nice if you didn't want to tie your device to Google. At this point for security conscious people, Apple might be the least horrible solution. I've also started to be less critical of Microsoft lately.

Re:Easy Fix
Sell the phones without OS's on them then let people install what they want on them. PrivateOS http://www.androidcentral.com/... looks like a good place to start.

Re: iBore 6.0
Samsung animated photo and htc zoe. Seek the truth and ye shall find it.
The article on the Samsung S4's new "Animated Photo" feature marks it at 2013, hardly "Half a decade ago". Plus, it produces massive 8.5 MB animated GIFs that are only 800 x 450. Ick! Perhaps that resolution has increased with later models; but when it was introduced, it certainly wasn't spectacular by any measure. And it's COMPLICATED and somewhat finiky to use.
As far as the HTC Zoe: That's an APP, and thus doesn't count. Heck, it even runs on iOS; so it's HARDLY a built-in feature for ANY Android device!
Because, as far as Animated GIF APPs go, the Apple App Store lists SEVERAL, some of which are SURE to pre-date the Samsung and HTC offerings. In fact, I find one for iOS, LoopCam, that has a reference on Google dated 11/30/2011.
Prove me wrong, or STFU. -

Re:Does Force Stop work?
Well they can collect data while the app is running, but as I understand it the app can't do anything when you Force Stop it until you restart it, or you reboot in which case it can once again be woken up by any events it is listening for (including the reboot).
Also, when you get it, Android M will allow you to selectively deny permissions to apps. http://www.androidcentral.com/...

Re:Microsoft needs to undercut the competition
Nice piece of tech, but at $800 I just laughed and walked away. Similar Android tablets are less than $200.
But Android tablets are junk, relatively nobody uses them and they can't run much in the way of things except stretched out phone apps. If you want a PC that runs PC programs then yes it is going to cost more than the cheapo Android junk but you can actually do many more useful things with it.
-
Re: Why do I want to upgrade?
While this is an obvious one you may have already checked, there is a developer setting to force wake on power. Have you made sure that's off? In case your dev menu is disabled, you can enable it in this manner:
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-enable-developer-settings-android-42
After the developer options are on (if they were not already), you will see it near the bottom of the settings list. Make sure Stay awake is not selected.

Re:Android phones bent long before the iPhone 6
As anyone could have found with Google before they tried to make this a thing about Apple.
Who gives a crap about Android? If I were an Android user and some HTC Android phone bends I could go buy a Samsung which can handle more than twice as much force instead. If the latest iPhone bends then what? Oh right no other phones run iOS, only choice is to get an old, soon-to-be-deprecated iPhone.
Why is it all the Apple apologists have this idea that the only people who would criticize their precious Apple are Android users? Telling me there are some (well one in this case) Android phones available that are as flimsy as the new iPhone is not helpful at all, it just shows you have an agenda in needing to deflect attention away from the issue with Apple's device. What are you trying to achieve by telling me that?
-
Android phones bent long before the iPhone 6

Just be aware and it'll be fine, with any phone.

Is Android the way to go?
Android is facing a new (or is in a continuation of a) lawsuit over Java patent violations.
Manufacturers have to pay Microsoft fees for violating their patents" and earns more from Android than Windows phones.
For most users on most handsets there isn't a supported upgrade path to newer versions of Android. They have to deal with bugs and security issues with their old version.
Depending on the study, between 85 and 99% of all mobile malware is targeted to Android. (Although most of that is outside of Google's own store)
I tell my friends, "buy one if you want to...but everything else is safer". iOS, Windows, Blackberry, Symbian (the least safe and least supported of these), Tizen, etc.

Re:English to German is relatively easy
Even with languages that share a common ancestry, these programs still have trouble when it comes to context, as shown in the following screenshot on the same topic.
http://www.androidcentral.com/...In this case the software tried to translate "move", which the original text uses in the context of "cancel the lease on your apartment and move to a different address" (German word would be "umziehen") and instead picks the German word "verschieben", which is the translation in the context of "grab and item and push it until it's no longer in spot A but in spot B".
Unless the software can actually factor in the context (as Google's search algorithm often tries to do), Murphy's Law will still have a field day with words that can translate into several different and distinct ones in the other language. -
Re:No SD slot == No thanks.
The problem with SD slot, isn't with the manufacturers, it is with Android itself. Google as depreciated the usage of "external" storage, because of issues with SD storage. Some are actually good reasons (security), while others are to protect App developers from idiots who want to move apps to SD card.
Read about it here: http://www.androidcentral.com/...

Windows Phone
This Windows Phone video is a lot closer to what the iPhone does, though the issue that one has as prior art is that it seems to be on a narrow touch-pad area (like a palm pilot) and not on the touch screen.

MS has their own set of problems.
MS still lacks market share, and one of their main problems is that windows phone 7 is the last platform supported by apps builders. It is that bad that they consider running android on windows.
At the same time they have to push all phone makers to pay them patent licenses for patents for fat and what they madeup when windows mobile (5.x 6.x) was the big thing.
MS Never said to be open. They controll the gates to their app store, just like Apple takes full control of everything htat is allowed to run on their phone.
Beside your point of not being able to include google apps on them, developers are tied to using a devkit that does not have a lices that allows anyone to fork it.

Re:ouch!
Forbes pretty much agrees with that analysis, and they valued the Tax write off for Moto losses to have been worth one billion out of the gate, plus 700million yearly. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ti...
Then there was the sale of 2 Moto fabs in the far east.

It will be interesting to see how much of the State Side assembly and shipping stays here. The advantages of having Chinese labor has been falling yearly, and Lenovo may just decide to build boards over seas and do the (mostly) automated assembly here in Texas.

Cyanogenmod Privacy Guard
Does this feature have any ability to secure a phone?
I take no small pleasure in doing this to Facebook.

Re:I was referring to user space
Unknown sources isn't the same as having root.
Likewise, having root on a GNU/Linux PC isn't the same as having access to the CPU's microcode update facility. At some point you have to draw the line as to how low-level you want to get. The Apple iDevices and game consoles draw that line too high to be useful for anything.
There are apps that won't work well or even at all without root. Backup software and file managers spring immediately to mind.
Certain kinds of backup software need root. The backup command of Android Debug Bridge doesn't though. And the Rhythm Software File Manager on my Nexus 7 works fine without root, finding the Samba shares on my laptop with no issue.
Also, in order to unlock a bootloader, you must first root the device.
Nexus devices are the opposite. You can fastboot oem unlock without root, but it wipes the device.
-
Re:Root?
No, it'll probably be easy to do but it seems that root was not allowed: http://www.androidcentral.com/oppo-n1-cyanogenmod-edition-passes-google-cts-launching-dec-24 Writing on the CM-dev list, community lead Abhisek Devkota (better known as ciwrl) described it as "a major milestone for everyone in this project," adding "aside from root access, we were not forced to make any compromises in terms of features or functionality."

Re:MisoSMS
You have to either accept or deny *all* that an app requests in its manifest, or you can't install.
If only there were something that would fix that that.
Oh, but wait that's a community ROM. If only Google had something like that.
Ehrm.. as strongbad used to say... DELETED.

Re:So No One Thought It Odd
Not experimenting with, implemented. Privacy Guard 2.0 in CM10.2 and up lets you get extraordinarily granular with permissions, beyond just location and ability to read contacts/SMS/phone state/etc. You can opt to have Privacy Guard on by default for all apps, which I have - it will then log all attempts to use sensitive operations.

Re:Don't really see the market
There is a known issue with some Android devices where they don't go into sleep mode and will discharge rapidly even when connected to a charger.
I had this with my Nexus 4 but it's been reported in many different devices.
Lots of random advice in forums on how to fix it but the problem still seems to exist.

They actually use that to their advantage. See the Video on this page..While tapping on the screen you don't need to push hard enough to rock the phone.

Re:Uh..
Apple is an American company.
How do you figure? At least one Apple exec told US workers to stuff it, as Apple doesn't owe them anything. Apple makes almost everything overseas. Meanwhile, Samsung has US operations (for example http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-expand-us-operations-two-new-california-facilities [androidcentral.com] ). Stop thinking of Apple as American just because their headquarters are here.
I have no, none, zero, zip, nada loyalty or favor towards "American" companies. They have no loyalty towards this country, so why should they get special favor from the US government? There is no quid pro quo, so tell 'em to stuff it.
Meanwhile my wife and I drive Toyota's. They're 80% and 85% value added in the USA, which makes them more American than most so-called American cars.
P.S. Part of the 1st paragraph is a cut and paste from my post above, but it seemed even more appropriate here.

Google adhering to the Sun Java license?
Larry also is whining about Google adhering to the Sun Java license as it was written and intended
Sun licensing was always intended to prevent a free Java implementation on a mobile phone.
Dalvik is Google's free Java implementation for mobile phones, is it not?
So Google might've complied with the terms as written (the US courts seem to think so) but they certainly took an end run around Sun's intentions.
All that being said, the sooner people stop wasting their money on Oracle products the better.

Android 4.3 breaks many Bluetooth keyboards
My benchmark: WPM cut in half. Reason: I had to switch back to the on-screen keyboard because just as changes to Bluetooth in Android 4.2 broke support for the Wii Remote, changes to Bluetooth in Android 4.3 broke several popular Bluetooth keyboards, including the ZAGGkeys Flex that I happen to own (source).

DMCA takedown
I was going to make flippant remark as I am not in love with CyanogenMod music player (I am a vanilla Music Player Fan). I like CyanogenMod because it is basically stock Android, and this is another deviation from that.
Whay I didnt realise is CyanogenMod has received a takedown Notice under DMCA from DxO Labs SA https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2013-03-12-DxO-Labs.md for allegedly using its code unlicensed.
Better article here http://www.androidcentral.com/cyanogenmod-focal-camera-app-nemesis looks great..shame about that icon.

Moving Toward Stock Android Not Away
http://www.androidcentral.com/google-play-edition-htc-one-galaxy-s4 Its interesting that the article points out how Samsung is moving away from Stock Android, but fails to point out that they are offering stock android as an option, because people desire just that, and they are not the only company doing so.

Error: tepples@example.com does not use Gmail
If I have to do that what's the point of even having a Gmail account?
To get past the "does not use Gmail" screen when using some other Google services. Android Market prior to Android 4.0, for example, required a Gmail account; an ordinary Google account wasn't enough.

Yep, there doesn't appear to be an Android app for amazon prime. So either Amazon is telling android users to f off, or they're unaware of the issue they'd cause with DRM.

Re:3D printers will not be popular at any price
Thanks for proving me right.
Thin clients are everywhere. EVERY-Friggen-WHERE!!!
Hint: Check your Smartphone or Tablet. Check out Google Drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox. Thin clients morphed while you were asleep.
And Google Glass is already being heavily developed even when its not out of beta yet.
Time to wake up from your long winter's nap AC, and stop telling other people to shut up until you get a clue. Final products don't always look like the speculative products. 3D printers won't always be making toys. They will probably be making our clothing, and there may well be one in every closet/laundry room which could pop out a new shirt on demand (custom tailored), and recycle the old ones.
Don't be such a box-thinker.
