Busted for "passive electioneering", voted anyway.
So I proudly put on a vote Libertarian t-shirt, this morning and wore it all day. I went straight to the polls right after work, the parking lot was crowded, but I only had a 20 minute wait at the polls. Several of the poll workers and others, whom are there to vote, make comments that they like my shirt. I get my ticket from the poll worker, strangely after showing no identification other than my voter registration card made from flimsy yellow poster-board. This is not my first time voting, I always remember having to show at least one additional form of ID.
After I get my ticket, I go stand in line, maybe 15 people in front of me. A poll worker comes up to me, stares blankly at my shirt for at least a minute without saying anything. So I am thinking she must be amused by my shirt, I just stand there waiting for her to say something with this shit-eating grin on my face. Finally, she says, "Sir, I am going to have to ask you to remove your shirt, or turn it inside-out." To which I reply, "I don't think so. Why, would I turn my shirt inside out?" She retorts, "Because it is political." Baffled, I say, "So what, isn't that why we are here?" She says, "Sir, please leave your ticket with a poll worker, go outside, and put on another shirt, or turn your shirt inside-out." I went back and forth with her for a few minutes on this, trying to get more than "it is political" out of her. At one point, I said, "Do I not have a civil right to freely express myself with a corny t-shirt, protected under the First Amendment?" Poll worker would not dignify that question with a response other than rolling her eyes.
After five minutes of this, I give up. I walk up to one of poll workers, hand them my ticket, walk outside and turn my shirt inside-out. I walk back in, grab my ticket and get back in line. At this time, a very cute 18-20 yr. old blonde, turns to me. She, the cute blonde, grins and says, "You know, I can still read it." Which really makes me laugh about this whole situation that was a bit embarrassing.
About 5 minutes later, I go up to vote, hand another poll worker my ticket. This woman, the poll worker at the voting booth, looked like a grizzled old lunchlady. She had fresh stitches in her face, and old monochrome blue-ink tattoos up her arms. In other words, it is probably not a woman you want to mess with. So she is politely showing me how to use this new-fangled electronic voting booth, as I told her, I had only voted with a paper ballot in the past. After she is finished, she laughs and says, "Sorry about your shirt."
I was aware that campaigning outside or near polling places was not legal, otherwise known as electioneering. However, I had never heard of the terms "passive electioneering" for wearing political pins or clothing items, that is until I went home and found it by Google. Is this, in fact, legal in many states? Is this not unconstitutional to deny someone their right to vote for a corny t-shirt. At first, I almost thought the poll worker was going to tell me to cover up my t-shirt, because it said "Libertarian".
Did anyone else have any similar embarrassing or humorous stories from the polls?

I don't recall the whacky Right being that smug last election when Bush won somewhat comfortably.
Are you kidding? Didn't you see all the "W. Still the President" stickers? They were all over the place. You can still buy them, as a matter of fact, in many places.

Unintended consequences - albedo vs. greenhouse
So (summarizing article) water vapor as part of a cloud is OK, because the greenhouse effect of the water vapor is counteracted by the albedo of the cloud?
More research is needed. Wider-scale experiments to see if the predicted and unpredicted effects are OK.
BTW, if you want to do something about the Earth's albedo today, you can always order a T-shirt.... or a mouse pad ---- 50 million mousepads should just about cover Texas.

Blizzard uses Torrent to distribute patches and they had a download available for TBC.
With the new Blizzard Store also having the Account Key storage section, you can purchase & download most blizzard games already.
However, I will be lining up at midnight at our local gamestop to pickup my copy (several at that) of WotLK so that i can begine playing it at 12:15 , which is the time it takes me to get home from gamestop.
I encourage anyone who wishes to do the same, to buy one of my shirts to wear

Re:NOINDEX, NOFOLLOWWhen the "lady with the cat" (link) was complaining about street view, I created an pseudo anti-googlevan design (link). I've always wondered if Google would actually respect it, in the unlikely event that they happened to find it in one of their pictures.
NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW would probably work just as well.
Disclaimer: it's my design, and my cafepress shop. I am NOT trying to influence anyone to buy anything, I linked to the shop because it's the only online version I have.

irrationality and religion..
'I've read slashdot for a long time. And the one thing that irritates me the most is the hatred everyone has towards religion and god. Post after post moderated to +5 insightful for saying "it's stupid to believe in god". What happened to open-minded?'
What people object to is the basic irrationality of all religlous belief systems, in order to be a member of the club, you have to be certifiably insane.
"Now imagine the beginning of time, empty universe or what have you and God begins creation .."
How did 'God' come into existence, if you say 'God' existed forever, then why not say the same for the material universe.
"He puts his finger to the empty 'canvas' and pours out his energy, and matter 'explodes' from his fingertips outward"
Where's the evidence for such an occurrence, can we measure it. If not then it isn't science. Observation, speculation, theory and testing with experiment - that's science. Religion says believe what I say because I say so.
Actually the current scientific thinking puts it as the Universe being created by two multi dimentional branes colliding.
Of course there is only the one true religion the church of Pastafarianism. All hail his immensity the Flying Spaghetti Monster .. -

Thousands of blacks coming to Jena a few weeks ago all think, that the speech of hanging nooses off the tree justified the violence against the suspected perpetrator, and that the people suspected of committing the violence ought to be set free "Now!" (No Greenpeace activists were seen chaining themselves to the innocent tree, when the city cut it, either.)
Subsequently, try searching for "Fuck Jena Six" on CafePress.com — the site famous for tolerating seemingly all speech. You can find "fuck Bush", "fuck Mexico", and "fuck Cuba" there, but you will not find "Fuck Jena Six", although merchandise with slogans supporting the six thugs abound.
There were a few such products initially, when the hysteria was just whipping up, but they were promptly removed. By the time I went looking for something, the links to about 10 different products were still present in the CafePress' index, but the actual merchandise was no longer available.
CafePress also suppressed all attempts to discuss the removals on their customer-forums — threads were deleted as "off-topic" or "political". The only explanation for the removals themselves was that the "messages on the merchandise was found to be hateful" (emphasis mine)...
Well, we all disapprove of "hateful" (and I personally strongly disapprove of using the expletives in public discourse), but if you allow shirts with "Fuck Racist Assholes" and "Fuck Police", then — just to be consistent — you ought to allow "Fuck Jena Six" as well.

The True Nature of Space & Time & The 4th
The fourth dimension is expanding relative to the three spatial dimensions. Moving Dimensions Theory accounts for the aetherless aether.
This simple postulate offers a physical model underlying and unifiying:
RELATIVITY: 1) length contraction 2) time dilation 3) the equivalence of mass and energy 4) the constant velocity of light 5) the independence of the speed of light from the velocity of the source
QUANTUMN MECHANICS 1) action at a distance 2) wave-particle duality 3) interference phenomena 4) EPR paradox
THERMODYNAMICS 1) Time's arrow 2) Entropy
STRING THEORY'S MANY DIMENSIONS / KALUZA/KLEIN THEORY 1) a fourth expanding dimension can be interepreted as many dimensions, each time it expands
THE UNITY OF THE DUALITIES 1) wave/particle duality 2) time/space duality 3) energy/mass duality 4) E/B duality
GENERAL RELATIVITY 1) Gravitational redshift 2) Gravity waves 3) Gravitational attraction
THE SPACE-TIME BACKGROUND 1) quantum foam 2) the smearing of space and time at small distances 3) Hawking's imaginary time
PARADOXES 1) MDT explains away Godel's Block Universe 2) MDT unfreezes time 3) Resolves Zeno's Paradox
ONE GETS ALL OF THIS FROM A SIMPLE POSTULATE:
The fourth dimension is expanding relative to the three spatial dimensions in a sphereically symmetric manner, in units of the Planck length, at the rate of c.
This means that every point in three dimnesional space is always expanding into a fourth dimensional sphere with a radius of the plank length. A photon is matter caught on the surface of this quantized expansion, and thus energy is quantized. The expansion of the fourth dimension occurs at the rate of c, and thus the velocity of all photons is c.

"The only way to stay stationary in the fourth dimension is to move at the speed of light through the three spatial dimensions. Ergo the fourth dimension is expanding at the rate of c relative to the three spatial dimenions."
How sad it is that when truth stares modern physicists in the face, they must close their eyes so as to get a postdoc or raise more funds for String Theory.
Moving Dimensions Theory is in complete agreement with all experimental tests and phenomena associated with special and general relativity. MDT is in complete agreement with all physical phenomena as predicted by quantum mechanics and demonstrated in extensive experiments. The genius and novelty of MDT is that it presents a common physical model which shows that phenomena from both relativity and quantum mechanics derive from the same fundamental physical reality.
Nowhere does String Theory nor Loop Quantum Gravity account for quantum entanglement nor relativistic time dilation. MDT shows these derive from the same underlying physical reality. Nowhere does ST nor LQG account for wave-particle duality nor relativistic length contraction. MDT shows these derive from the same underlying physical reality. Nowhere does ST nor LQG account for the constant speed of light, nor the independence of the speed of light on the velocity of the source, nor entropy, nor time's arrow. MDT shows these derive from the same underlying physical reality. Nowhere does String Theory nor Loop Quantum Gravity resolve the paradox of Godel's Block Universe which troubled Eisntein. MDT resolves this paradox.
Simply put, MDT replaces the contemporary none-theories with a physical theory, complete with a simple postulate that unifies formerly disparate phenomena within a simple context.

THE GENERAL POSTULATE OF DYNAMIC DIMENSIONS THEORY The fourth dimension is expanding relative to the three spatial dimensions. If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it. -Albert Einstein But after thirty years of the absurdity of String Theory, millions of dollars from the NSF, and billions of complementary dollars from tax and tuition and endowments spent on killing physics and indie physicists, perhaps it's time for something that makes

Re:Are you sure ...
So you take the "we can't lose if we never leave" stance? Yes, saving face is clearly more important than saving lives.
Bush's logic that a "date certain" will only embolden the insurgents falls on its face when you realize there already is a date certain: January 20th, 2009. The momentum has already started in Congress to end the war. It's a political certainty that no candidate is going to be elected in 2008 without a clear plan bring the troops home. The Republicans need to ask themselves how many US soldiers and Iraqi civilians have to die between now and then. -
On the other hand
Yes, there are *some* people who will not produce information-products (including software, music, images, or what-have-you) if they cannot globally enforce copy restrictions. Agreed. Such people should, IMO, go in to a different line of work. That is perfectly acceptable for a very simple reason: there will be more than enough people who find good reasons to produce such works in the absence of copyright restrictions. Some people will find an alternative means of making money off freely-duplicated works, and others just because they are altruistic.
Remember that people pay good money for their hardware, and copyright restrictions mean they cannot make full use of it. Copyright isn't actually a "freedom" for the person producing a work....people will still be completely free to produce works without copyright restrictions. Copright may be a "benefit" to the producers of a work (though in practice it is not; it is only a benefit to the distributors of the work, but I won't get into that here), but to call it a "freedom" is incorrect. Copyright law is a restriction on freedom to everyone in the world, and if such a freedom is going to be globally sacrificed, there had better be a damn good reason for it.
The only reason you have given is the false premise that without these restrictions, no-one will produce knowledge-products. Not only is this false in theory (since some people will produce stuff for free, and since some people will find ways of making money off knowledge-products in the absence of copyright restrictions), but there are lots of examples of businesses that make money off a free end-product, and of profoundly useful products made without any profit motive. And there are more where those came from.
That last set of links is pretty important. Google gives all of its services away for free, and yet has a market cap of over 100 billion. Not only are there business models built around free products, but they are very profitable and fiercely competitive.
Also check out this and this. Copyright is still there, but it is unenforced upon the consumer. It will be interesting to see how this selective approach to enforcement will pan out.
It is true that a farmer who gives away his crops for free would go broke, and if farmers could not legally force people to pay for their products then there would be no farmers. However, this observation not apply to information products. Information is fundamentally different from physical products, and business models surrounding it wind up taking a different form than traditional business models (a form which includes a free and/or freely redistributable product).
What we are dealing with is a new kind of abundance. Oxygen is an abundant resource, (anyone can get it for free because it just never runs out). Traditional capitalistic wisdom says that it is not possible to build a business around such resources, and further that no one will produce them because of that. Information is also abundant, once it exists (since it can be duplicated at zero cost by anyone). But it is also strangely non-abundant, since it's initial production requires an expenditure of resources. Traditional capitalistic models have a very hard time categorizing it...is it abundant or isn't it? Copyright law is an attempt at forcing it in to the "limited" category so that the traditional models wil -
We need a heroWe need Sonny Bono to show those Chinese. Oh wait, he's dead. Maybe we should elect Fred Thompson to be president. Yeah, he'll take care of the Chinese, just like in Hunt for Red October. It's like he's the best of Sonny Bono and Ronald Reagan all rolled into one.

Re:T-Shirt. I'd wear one!
It seems that someone set up a CafePress Shop. I don't know who profits from it, though. It's just one of the links when searching for 09F911029D74E35BD84156C5635688C0. On a side note, almost completely unrelated to everything else, 09F911029D74E35BD84156C5635688C0 is too long for a slashdot username, and cannot be registered. I was wondering if someone had done so, and found out that it's impossible.
