Re:Booth babes don't work well on straight geeks.
I'll just leave this here. It's come in handy in the past, and does much to clear up the nerd/geek/dork debates.

Re:Four Factors
I prefer this formulation:
Rule one: there is only one rule and this is it. -
Re:Your privacy was eroded for you
Facebook fanatics? I don't think that's a title they've given themselves. They aren't preaching the wonders of Facebook, ranting on street corners and passing out little booklets of The Good News of The Zucker-Man.
You were somewhere with friends, and one of those friends took a picture of you. They put that picture online, and tagged you in that picture, for others who care to quickly find you in pictures. That's not fanaticism, that's socializing on the internet for many people.
Back to the original post - do you use any "membership" cards to get discounts at stores? They're tracking you there, too. (Don't worry, Cat and Girl isn't a wacky blog about a girl and her cat. It's a web comic about "a cat, a girl, and an experimental meta-narrative") Maybe you've been in some publication, like a newspaper? Your name is out there somewhere.
Your best bet is to cut all ties to people and live in the woods. Just don't send explosive mail to those "facebook fanatics" who are trying to keep you tied to the internet. I hear incendiary letters are tracked more closely than your gmail correspondence.

Sorry, you can't trademark that, it's already been thought of -

There must be a way to just "slip" these into the discussion, but why bother? What's the good of an article ranting about webcomics without finding new, good web comics? -

Re:What defines art? No, it's 'WHO' defines art
-
Re:Why?

art is determined by the consumer, not the creator
'Accidental' non-manmade creations can be art, like a sunset. the sunset is art if someone views it and decides it so. Manmade items created not for art can later be decided to be so, like old railroad cars. Art created for one meaning can gain entirely separate meaning, like che guevara's picture.
whether something is art or not is only relative when it's being appreciated, and has nothing to do with it's creation.
this cat&girl comic says it pretty well -
social networking patents VS social networking
Don't underestimate the power of social networking," Blum says. "It will be a huge force to reckon with."
So huge, your impending patents will be as a cork on the ocean--by far the influenced, rather than the influencor. You can't kid a kidder, and you can't socially engineer the social engineers (ehrm.. much). Business success may yet be yours however--comsumer whores may yet love your site, and lucky for you they abound.

Cat and Girl on Moral Consumption as a Luxury -
what did people do before the internet? (comic)
comic from 'cat and girl'
I think it's obvious that good or bad for us, using the internet is psychologically addicting, like sex, marijuana, or rock&roll. Patterns of deprivation will be similar regardless of the specific addiction. -evilme -
Re:Are the same people...

You're a hero!
Well, some people would think so.
-
And I've never even been to art school!
I actually lifted 90% of that from Cat and Girl as an excuse to link to a funny picture of Joseph Beuys, but it's nice to know how good I am at this pseudo-coherent art-babble stuff. They tell me my philosophy student impression's pretty good too.
Anyway, hate is a subjective qantity. What is hate? Are we using hate in the metaphysical sense? In that case, assuming even so much as to say that mankind is even capable of true hate is patently ridiculous. Even if we stick to common usage, hate would have to change depending on it's source. The hate a peaceful man might have for someone tagging his house is an entirely different thing from the hate of someone who's already hate-filled at the outset. Can you really compare the two in any real sense? -

The wonderful strip Cat and Girl covered this phenomenon.

Re:Unfortunatley.
That's the only problem I had with the article. It's stuck on Scott "OMG d0tted L1nez!" McCloud's attempts to peg this as a business model for newspaper comics and not anything in and of itself. I mean, outside of Calvin & Hobbes, newspaper comics suck.
If you get away from Scott "Flow Chart" McCloud's sphere of influence, you get stuff that's good and not just Ziggy with tits and crack. Exploding Dog is at least 90% absolute genius, Cat and Girl is doing quite well, Poe's... Poe, and Kung Fool's been getting way better since he quit doing it. There's a lot more of that. -

this is frontpage /. news?
Ok, does Megatokyo have that large of a following here @
/. ??
Because amongst other webcomics:
Goats Is currently at Comicon putting out a second book.
Achewood is finishing up the polishing touches on a book.
Cat and Girl has a book going out.
As do a whole slew of others. Why don't they get mentioned??
