Additionally, the Win2K/NT server guys are afraid to install security patches since they never are really how much of their server is going to break. Often times, Admins will patch the servers which touch the Internet but not the Internal servers for fear of breaking them. With Code Red, this was quite humorous because the outer servers were patched as soon as the Code Red patch was available, thinking this action would defend the realm against Code Red, but they forgot about the laptop users which brought Code Red in the back door via the local LAN.

What are you using your upload bandwidth for? Many windows programs, such as ServU FTP server, allow you to cap your upload speeds.

Otherwise, perhaps something like this would be better for you.

Anyways, your reply was nicely worded and reflected compared to most rabid linux-zealots that trawls these boards.

From my POV the only thing keeping linux-users from switching is the reluctancy against actually paying for quality - or anything at all really.

Couple that with an irrational hatred of Apple (Judging a company on it's port for the "enemy"-OS? Do you think MS helps them smooth their experience and general acceptance there?) and you have a bunch of stubborn woodheads.

I would feel the same way too. If it suddenly dawned on me that Windows or even Linux were way ahead of the Mac OS in the race. That just isn't the case now.

Don't get me wrong. Both have their uses. Linux is a great server OS. Reliable and low-maintenance. But for a desktop? I'll give it a few years to iron out it's wrinkles and uglies. I don't hold my breath though

And Windows? Well, it's shaping up. But it has been a long time now. Constantly playing catch up with the Mac OS has worn it out like an old piece of cloth. Security-holes and bugs abound. I don't blame them though. Being that paranoid, controlling and the same time have to support an enormous plethora of configurations must strain them to a breaking point.

Linux on the other hand is the perfect hobbyist OS. Perfect for the tinkerer.

Mac OS X is the perfect combination for everyone. A tinkerer, programmer, geek, power user and grandmother would all fit right at home. Of course, if you are willing to pay for it that is. Some people actually are :)

Basically, it seems that congress has been using the patent office as a source of income, draining off millions of dollars that would be spend reviewing applications- seems like a good 15-20% of the fees that companies pay aren't used for reviewing applications at all.

If you;re going to quote numbers, at least look them up. Phil Schiller said today that Apple estimates 2.5 million OS X users right now, and they are hoping for 5 million by the end of the year. That's a big difference.

Since Apple estimates its total user base at 25 million, that'd be 10% mac user penetration already. Not too shabby, since it was basically unusable until 10.1.

As for Microsoft's opinion that Apple isn't pushing Mac OS X hard enough? Well, that just sounds like a software company's opinion of a hardware company. Apple's shipping machines with Mac OS X as the default OS and has made plenty of announcements about the sunsetting of Classic Mac OS. Apple's money comes from selling machines, so that's all they need to do.

And how does Microsoft intend to "steal Apple's thunder?" By simply by making announcements of its own versions of what Apple has been doing with tremendous success for years. Movie trailers will continue to be in QuickTime format, MPEG-4 is still QuickTime, and Apple will continue to sell 802.11b harware in addition to their robust and easy-to-use software.

a) So if this is really the product manager, why does roxio.com have nothing whatsoever like this, a disclaimer or anything, on their website? Toast is their big product, and they're publicly traded. You'd think bad PR is something they'd want to quash.

b) If they have no intention of ever hitting users with DRM stuff, why the license agreement making users agree to allow Roxio control over their system?

d) The people at Roxio are not nice folks -- they went after the excellent Open Source project cdrtoaster (a Tk front end to cdrecord) as being trademark infringement and forced a name change.

Where did you get that from? Check this article on news.com to refresh your memory. Basically what SUN objects to is Microsoft's attempt to fragment Java by not conforming to the specifications. I certainly get the impression that SUN would love having Microsoft provide a compliant Java implementation.
