Newsweek made "Alt-media" credible
Yes, seriously. If they had chosen to report the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky story then Matt Drudge would never have gotten his big break. http://www.drudgereportarchive...
> At the last minute, at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening, NEWSWEEK magazine killed a
> story that was destined to shake official Washington to its foundation: A White
> House intern carried on a sexual affair with the President of the United States! There are a lot of wacko conspiracy theories out there. Unfortunately, the Lewinsky/Clinton cover-up was one of them. It lends "plausable non-deniability" to other "unbelievable stories".
-
The Clintons are getting their gatekeepers
Two news items bemoaning the lack of internet gatekeepers...
1) http://www.breitbart.com/big-j...
> Three years before Matt Drudge changed the world and how news would be
> consumed, President Bill Clinton's White House feared that the Internet was allowing
> average citizens, especially conservatives, to bypass legacy gatekeepers and
> access information that had previously been denied to them by the mainstream press.2) http://www.drudgereportarchive...
> Clinton was asked whether she favored curbs on the Internet, after the DRUDGE REPORT
> made headlines with coverage of her husband's affair with a White House intern.
> "We are all going to have to rethink how we deal with this, because there are all
> these competing values ... Without any kind of editing function or gatekeeping
> function, what does it mean to have the right to defend your reputation?" she said. -
Re:What's even scarier than fake news
> What's even scarier than fake news is when news is blacked out. Fake news
> is not something one would never expect, even if we did not live in a society
> in which the mainstream media is controlled to an extremely high degree.Suppresion of real news makes nutty conspiracies more believable. How many people are aware that JFK was screwing more women than Bill Clinton could hope for? But the lib-left media kept quiet, even though they knew, because JFK was a Democrat. They also kept quiet for Bill Clinton's sexcapades. It was a store clerk (Matt Drudge), with a modem and a website ( http://drudgereport.com/ ) who finally broke the story http://drudgereportarchives.co...
Note that Newsweek knew about the story, but decided to kill it. After the story first broke, Bill Clinton denied, denied, denied. Nowadays, when a nutty conspiracy theory comes out, it's quashed by the MSM and government denies, denies, denies. Maybe this time they're telling the truth. But, like "the boy who cried wolf", they've lost their credibility to fight nutty conspiracy theories. The lib-left big media are to blame for the current state of affirs.

Re:What About.....
> CONSPIRACY THEORIES??
>
> [insert meme of "Aliens!" here]
>
> Has anyone thought about this act being caused by a
> "government agency" that has something to prove?Take your pick...
1) DHS setting up for another power-grab
2) US government setting up to claim that [insert country name here] has CWMD ("Cyber Weapons of Mass Destruction") as a pretext for an invasion/war.
3) Democrats/lib-left-elite who are scared shitless of the free flow of information on the internet.
A) http://www.breitbart.com/big-j...
>Three years before Matt Drudge changed the world and how news would be consumed,
> President Bill Clinton's White House feared that the Internet was allowing average
> citizens, especially conservatives, to bypass legacy gatekeepers and access information
> that had previously been denied to them by the mainstream press.B) In the 1950's and the 1960's, JFK was f***ing women all over the place. President Bill Clinton was a saint in comparison. The lib-left elite needed only a few names/numbers in their rolodex, and any inconvenient stories were squashed. In a similar manner Newsweek killed the Lewinsky scandal story. Unfortunately for Bill Clinton, a lowly store clerk by the name of Matt Drudge didn't play lapdog to the elite... http://www.drudgereportarchive...
Hillary Clinton (yes, *THAT* Hillary Clinton) responded by whining about the lack of any "gatekeeping function" on the internet http://www.freerepublic.com/fo...C) Notice that I quoted Breitbart.com? The lib-left is extremely pissed at the site. So much so that...
> Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign has sent out a fundraising
> email arguing the website Breitbart News has no "right to exist,"
> and suggests that if elected, the website will be shut down entirely.http://dailycaller.com/2016/08...
The lib-left elite would really rather have a gatekeeper-controlled internet. But that would be too obvious. So they'll settle for "random DDOS attacks. Only companies with big budgets would be able to afford the neccessary infrastructure to stay up against a DDOS attack.

Re: AC's Tech Plan
But radical Muslims blowing up other Muslims? Not a peep.
Drudge Report was all over the Istanbul bombing almost as soon as it happened. CNN reported too. As did Fox News...
Today — the next day — New York Times had their article. And Washington Post.
Are you taking your talking points from these dimwits, perhaps?

Re:Can't figure out who else might do this ..
Let's say there is some public corruption by a popular political figure. Should an organized group of partisan poll voters be able to spike the story just because they don't want to hear something bad?
No, that should be left up to the partisan editors of the media, such as in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Now of course the media should be free to publish what they like, but don't fool yourself into thinking their only agenda is getting the truth out. -
Re:BS
Here's the original Drudge posting. He's not reporting on Lewinsky; he's reporting on the MSM's reactions to the story.

Honestly, is anyone surprised that Russia just b*tch-slapped Obama? But hey, I guess Obama's too busy responding to every little slight against him uttered by radio & TV personalities to actually bother with diplomacy. Very Presidential. It's going to be a looooong 4 years, folks.

Re:more importantly...
Accoona was also featured on the Drudge Report over the weekend. According to EE Times, Accoona recently held a press conference to announce their enhanced search engine. It looks like they are in the midst of a major marketing campaign.

This is what i love about neocons
the misinformation. I've seen these allegations that Clinton spied on american citizens without a court order on Drudge, NRO and all the conservative blogs. They all reference executive order 12949 which states " Pursuant to section 302(a)(1) of the Act, theAttorney General is authorized to approve physical searches, without a court order" What does text of the law say, the president can authorize searches of foreign powers without a court order. No where does the law say American Citizens. King George could have easily followed the law but didn't, other presidents did.

Re:s/Weary/Wary/
They attacked the WTC because they hate freedom and democrocy. al-Qaeda also threatened the Iraqis from voting as it would "wash the streets with blood".
You don't get it do you? The war isn't just about stopping islamic fundamentalism, it's about eliminating the oppression it emboddies.
BTW, Bin Ladin has been given "OK" by the Sheik to use a nuclear to kill millions of Americans. But...I'm sure that sand your head it stuck in is nice and safe huh?

Re:Matt Drudge
Hey, if he wants to take advantage of the 90% of users not blocking ads to make some money more power to him. He has linked to at least one story on Opera in the past.
The Drudge Report Archive (which isn't owned or operated by him) does have a Firefox button. -
Yes, you are sorry, Bro
"Seriously... "Blessed are the Peacemakers" ring any bells?"
No, seriously. You sound like a complete idiot. Name me a "peace maker" in his place. Go on. Kerry? Oooh, had that Vietnam thing happening. Clinton? attacked Iraq first on the very same premise of WMDs. The UN? Sanctioned the first invasion of Iraq and through their decade of inaction, cost 300,000 their lives.
Terrorism? Proven. Human rights violations? Proven. Banned weapons programs? Proven. The willingness to use WMDs on his own poulace? Proven. WMDs? Well, still working on that, but question: If 300 tones of high explosive can go missing right out from under the UN's nose, why not WMDs? 300 tones isn't exactly something you can load up onto your 4x4 and boogie out, you know? We're talk a concerted effort using tractor trailers and semies. Where's they go?
Yes, Bush, root of all evil. -
Excruciating Editorial BiasOnce again, we have an abysmal editorial decision on Slashdot.
A submission from Indomitus, a left-leaning reader (nothing wrong with that) comes in citing the dailyKOS as a source of news, and the editor doesn't even explain that that site is so unbelievably slanted as to be unreadable.
Just as a test, I've submitted the following story just to see what response I get. I'll be FLOORED if it gets through, although it is at least as accurate as the post Michael approved.
Submission:
The DNC has now confirmed that the excerpt from their Training Manual reported on the Drudge Report is authentic.
The excerpt calls election workers to issue press releases and give interviews about voter suppression, and that, "If no signs of intimidation techniques have emerged yet, launch a pre-emptive strike".

What about "Unfit for Command"
What about the fact that one of our current presidential candidates, John Kerry, is calling for a book ban himself? In his relentless attack on a group of veterans, Kerry's campaign has asked the publisher of the book, Unfit for Command, to stop selling it and for bookstores to not carry it as well.
Agree with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth or not, this is still America and we still do believe in free speech. Well, unless your John Kerry of course. -
Re:Kissing butt in TexasYou can blame Bush all you want.. but Kerry feels the same way about it. Pulled from Drudgereport.com (Jun 4)
"In an interview set for broadcast Sunday on C-SPAN, presidential hopeful John Kerry says he supports the current FCC crackdown on television indecency, but comes out against the greater scrutiny of pay cable channels like HBO and Showtime.
"I think there is a distinction between public broadcast and the notions we've had historically about family time, family hour -- and what you buy privately and personally."
"I am not in favor of government interference and censorship and restriction of what an individual privately can decide to do in their home, in their own space, so to speak," Kerry said, but he did seem to be OK with indecency regulation "where you have children involved, where you have a broader cross-section of the public, where there is sort of a sense of family time or hour."
On media concentration:
"I wasn't there for the vote, but I was 100% in favor of overturning this rule.
"I think that too much media in the hands of one powerful entity or one individual is a mistake. I think it runs counter to the foundation of our country. I think it runs counter to the need for Americans to know what they are getting news and information from multiple sources that are not singularly controlled."
On the Janet Jackson Super Bowl 'nipple' incident:
"I thought that was in poor taste and wrong -- wrong venue, wrong timing, wrong place, wrong audience. So, there are some standards and pretty generally people should know what they are."
Think what you will.
-
Re:FCC should stop censorship
I can't wait for Bush to lose so we can have some sane government.
If you think John Kerry is going to change anything on that, you should look at this. -
Draft SUV drivers first! Are you prepared to die for your precious oil, ecoterrorist?
I'd vote for re-instating the draft if the SUV drivers got drafted first.

widely used doesn't account for everything
Please note that you typed your entire message in English. This is not the majority language used on the globe. It is a minority language compared to Mandarin Chinese. But you used it because it is familiar to you and your intended audience.
However, others on the globe may argue that you should have typed it in Mandarin Chinese because English, as a standard, is not as widely used as Chinese.
I'll be serious for a moment, though. You conclude your message saying that WMA wins out because it's so widely used. You do not suggest that a DRM standard be judged on how good it is. This philosophy supports stagnation and hinders innovation.
Did you happen to read on the Drudge Report that your boss is no longer the richest man alive? -
Re:I didn't think you could.
#1: This link quotes two men as stating they saw Bush when he was based in Alabama, the time that the Demo'rats (and you) claim he was AWOL. One mentions that he was his drill partner, and that Bush was present at all drills.
#2: While I cannot find proof that Bush has not attended any funerals of fallen soldiers (although there is plenty of rhetoric about him not attending), I did find this link which mentions several war time presidents, some of which and some of which did not attend troops funerals. Some who did, only attended those of children of family members or of men they personally met. Criticizing Bush for not going to these funerals is silly as he is not the only president to not do this.
#3: However, people are more likely to commit suicide today than ever before, too. Suicide, as any psychologist will tell you, is about depression, not about disagreement with a war. While, yes, there have been soldiers who filed "consciensious objector" status so they do not have to fight (but only 3 that I know of so far). It's possible that troops are depressed in Iraq due to a number of factors (heck, they are being shot at), but this does not mean they do not agree with the efforts.
#4: You're taking what I said out of context, which is what you Demo'rats like to do. The full statement was, "... the troops love hearing how Bill Clinton and Dick Clarke failed to deal with Iraq in 1997 as Clinton had planned." That statement is factually accurate. Clinton HAD planned to deal with Iraq in 1997 and FAILED to do so. This means, he did NOT do it, therefore he failed. I did not say that the situation in Iraq was Clinton's fault, it was Saddam's fault and the inability of the U.N. to uphold their own laws.
#5: However, in previous testimony, recordinds, and emails Clarke says the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. The GOP believes he lied under oath", and Clark praises Bush at a seperate point, and in his resignation letter, also praises Bush on how he handled 9/11. So what is it? Is he lying now... or was he lying then? Either way, he cannot be trusted... yet you believe him. Curious...
#6: Which you conveniently left out, this page says that Clarke is not a registered Democrat, but wants to be. And you can be registered "independant" as I am, so just because you're not registered demo'rat doesn't mean you need to be registered republican. So, of course, if he wants to be a registered Demo'rat, that re-enforces my assertion that he is doing this for political purposes.
#7: I don't have to respond to this one since You have stopped arguing this point.
There's your proof... have a good day! -

Re:The Draft is coming ...If Bush is reelected then the draft will start Jan or Feb 2005, slow for the first few months and then when they are up to speed they'll start pulling large amounts of young men.
That prediction actually does make sense.
The military is stretched so thin back-to-back deployments like that of the 3rd Infantry are required.
If GWB wins, we're most probably going to have a conflict with Syria or Iran and he's going to need more troops for that.

Earlier post fits here as well
A new email virus called MyDoom is spreading rapidly across the Internet through UNIX mail servers, bringing with it a dangerous attachment that, when opened, can give attackers access to users' computers through an electronic backdoor.
Apparently in their zeal to deflect criticism, they are ignoring, or don't read
/. where a more plausible explanation as to the origin of the virus has been posted, and as to the motives behind it.
Too bad (for the site) their own readers don't fall for it
The above links are relevent to the BBC post as well.Wrath of the geeks
If anyones anger has no measure, it is the wrath of internet zealots who believe that code should be free to all (open source).
So, it seems likely that the perpetrators of the MyDoom virus and its variants are internet vandals with a specific grudge.
SCO is the big, bad company that violates one of their sacred principles, as they would see it.
There's no proof, of course, but it must be one of the theories at the top of any investigator's list.Interesting to see the BBC publishing this "reporting" on the heels of this
They argued that Mr Dyke, the BBC's editor-in-chief, was blameless for the "defective" system of checks which failed to expose the mistakes made by reporter Andrew Gilligan.
Mr Dyke, they argued, had a long list of extra responsibilities, from " motivating staff " to handling budgets and could not have been expected to check Mr Gilligan's story which alleged that the Government inserted bogus material into the Iraq dossier.
Although editors traditionally accepted responsibility for their journalists' shortcomings, that did not mean Mr Dyke "could or should" have had any clue about the inaccuracies in the story.
The BBC submission said its governors did not have "direct management responsibility" although they did take "ultimate responsibility for the BBC in everything it does".
And it argued, astonishingly, that the governors were never asked to treat the deluge of demands for an apology made by Alastair Campbell or the Government as "a formal complaint".
Meanwhile, in a separate legal submission, Gilligan attempted to claim that reporters should be allowed "a margin of error" to make mistakes. And more:
On the BBC
BBC editorial system was 'defective'
BBC management failed to appreciate that Gilligan's notes did not support the most serious of his allegations
The BBC governors should have recognised the desire to protect its independence was not incompatible with investigating Mr Campbell's complaints, no matter what their tone
The BBC governors should have investigated further the differences between Gilligan's notes and his report, and that should have led them to question w

Re:Why is this About US Opposing French Site ?
Bush did no such thing. The links between Saddam and terrorism abound. After all this is the war against terrorism This leaked memo details in 16 pages the intimate relations between Saddam and Al Quaeda. But oh ya, im just a fsckd up brainwashed American right? It isnt possible that I disagree with you and not be brainwashed right???
Geez -

Actually all of the above, but you just dont want to beleive it. Read all about it in the leaked 16 page memo detailing Iraq's relationship with terrorism here

Re:I hardly believe
This is the kind of non-thought one would expect from a lefty.
I know of at least 300,000 Iraqis that would disagree with you. -

This man's arrogance is unbelievable!

Re:list of stories
It behooves you to know what the stories are about before you go off on them. Case in point, #11 refers to a specific incident in which "Northern Alliance" -- Abdul Rashid Dostum's, more specifically [ google him for some fun! ] troops, with the apparent aid or at least the blind eye of US troops, killed captured Taliban. The ultra-liberal the Drudge Report even picked that one up.

Re:Voting machine manufacturer wants votes for BusAh, yes. Mod me down.
Maybe fewer people will be able to form their opinions on freely available information that way. That's what you neocon/conservatives would like, after all. Just like Britney Spears says:
"Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens."'
Don't question the authority. That's the way to go.
-
Voting machine manufacturer wants votes for BushDon't forget this:
"The head of a company vying to sell voting machines in Ohio told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."
Yes. Your votes are being scammed to keep the neocon scum in power.

Everybody knows that the Bush family is bending over for the religious right, gun-nuts and the hard-line right wing Cuban emigre nuts who, combined, really are the Taleban Party of the United States of America.
Fuck their narrow minded, Christian, "pro-life", anti-sexual, pro-dog-eat-dog-capitalism, pro-israel, anti-minority policies! Seriously, goatse-fuck them in the ass!
Fortunately I will be moving out of this country soon. If the Republicans win the next few elections I will seriously consider giving up my US citizenship and move to a sane country.

Re:Why??
I'd like to see who all is back from the Reagan era. I know Cheney and Rumsfeld. Admitidly two very high ranking officials, but who else. It seems a bit generous to say "a good majority
- Mitch Daniels - Office of Management and Budget Director
- Condoleezza Rice - Foreign Policy Advisor
- Robert Zoellick - US Trade Representative
- Andrew Card - Chief of Staff
- Richard A. Clarke - Special Advisor for Cyberspace Security
- Robert Joseph - Senior Director for Proliferation Strategy, Counterproliferation and Homeland Defense
- Elliot Abrams - Senior Director for Democracy, Human Rights, and International Operations
- Richard Armitage - Deputy Secretary of State (from former Bush Admin)
- Paul Wolfowitz - Deputy Secretary of Defense
- Gary R. Edson - Deputy Assistant for International Economic Affairs and Deputy National Security Advisor
- William Howard Taft, IV - Legal Advisor to the Secretary of State
- Timothy Muris - Federal Trade Commission
Is that enough for a majority? It seems like most of the major positions are carried over from the Reagan (or Bush, Sr)'s administration.
Just when did the US create a situation in the middle east? Look at Britain that created Israel. Look at the arab countries for attacking Israel. Look at Israel for rocketing innocent people. Look at childish leaders that can't agree on how to meet for peace, let alone discuss peace terms. There are lots of people to blame for the problems but hardly the US, unless giving hope of some sort of peace settlement is a bad thing.
I agree with you that everyone has had at least a hand in this cookie jar. But what lead to the recent escalation was the fact that Bush turned a cold shoulder when suicide bombers were blowing up Israel and for the first couple of days of Israel's incursion, Bush did not give a public statement telling either sides to back down. (as reported in Time Magazine and LA Time.
You must remember that Bush came into the White House saying outright that Clinton's mistake was in meddling with the affairs of the Middle East. Up until 2 weeks ago, he pretty much wanted to ignore the issues...which lead to mass confusion on Bush's stance Which Sharon took as an OK to advance onto Palestine territory. Now recently, Powell went over there to try to resolve things, but his mission was considered by many as a failure. Both sides have lost respect for the US as a mediator.
Bush does not really care or want to be involved in the middle east. It's quite a tangled web. On one hand, part of his administration wants to fully support Israel. But on the other hand, if he does support Israel, the entire Islamic world will come down upon him. Even today's news, the Saudi Prince (our supposed Ally) just threatened to cut off ties to the US if the US does not take a harder stance on Israel. In addition, Egypt (another ally) is threatening to go to war again Israel once it gets enough financial support.
Alright...I'm done with my rambling... :-P
