I've actually got a Top-loading NES. I'll sell it for $100
:P
I'd be there are some on ebay, but the problem would be finding 'em. I don't feel like searching through a few hundred listings though.
I did find this 72-pin connector for replacing the cartage edge.
The NES cleaning kit also helps a lot. -

Re:mini ITX
How interesting...He seems to be selling it on ebay $300 for the 933 mhz computer including keyboard and mouse.

Like it? But too lazy to build it?
Buy it on E-Bay. That's right, item number 3401552448. Be the life of the next LAN party, amaze your friends...

Re:Finally, a use for all these things...Most old box-style NES consoles aren't necessarily useless, just worn out. a search on eBay for pin connectors can be an easy fix, as the original pin connectors were cheap and wore out easily. you should find one for ~$8, and the non-gold cheaper ones work just as well. Classic games can be found in many places for very little. in fact, with the fix (usually) being less than $10, why would you want to place a PC inside instead?

Hey, you can always buy used, if all you're wanting is a good play box. I got an Ultra 5 for $30 through the local "Bargain Finder" magazine. Go search ebay.

They won't show up on eBay
The article states that these CDs are produced with CD-R technology. Though Americans are allowed to resell the CDs (17 USC 109), they can't do so on eBay. An eBay policy bans the sale of copies recorded on CD-R media unless the sale is authorized by the copyright owner, even if the sale would otherwise be lawful in the United States.
I'm assuming that these CDs will not carry copy restriction technology because the popular CD recording software does not support it.

Re:Content is important
Under request from some people, especially those in Germany (where apparently eBay germany is more strict with respect to scraping) I changed bidwatcher's User-Agent to something more resembling Mozilla.
I too was surprised that no one had mentioned eBay, and I have also read that EULA.
eBay actually sells an API but I'd say the pricing is a little less than lucrative for an open project like bidwatcher. I suppose one could craft a server that bid for a bunch of users and charge them for use and recoup the cost. Can't let the users have the API controls in their clients though, because they can quickly run up your bill with eBay, as they charge *per access*. -

eBay stops unpleasant stuff too. Do you really think that saying "venue" is what saves them, or do you think it has something to do with eBay completely bending over for all the right people?

Re:Profiteers
Pieces of the shuttle are expected to appear on Ebay before too long
Space shops etc have been selling Columbia Tiles for a few years now... Some of these hve been on Auction pre this disaster.... -
Wow. Some people are getting rich with this.
Just watch this. "Space Shuttle Columbia $5 Commemoritive Coin", sold for US $13,101.00. Honestly, I don't undestand. If you have that amount of money to spend, why not do something useful with it? Maybe donate it to the families of the astronauts, or use it for lobbying to get more funds for NASA. But a $5 coin? Sheesh.

Re:Profiteers
And, wow, this is interesting:
Seeds that have been on both Challenger and Columbia
A little morbid, yes, but fascinating. While I was looking at it, it jumped from $47 to $106.

Re:ProfiteersWow that was fast. I went to double-check my link and the item has already been pulled.
There's another item but it's actually just a flag for sale. Ahh, marketing.

Ebay, of course.
Why am I not surprised? Althought it is against my better judgement to provide publicity for this crap, here is auction for space shuttle debris on Ebay: Item 3205242574. (note: it seems this item is still "pending", and no description is available...) Affordable at 10 grand?
Sigh. You too can search ebay for "space shuttle". heh. -

No Thanks
A classic's a classic, and there's no denying that.

Re:Toxic Substances : prevent shit like this
While the some materials of the shuttle may be toxic, any of the little fuel carried on re-entry should have burnt up.
I might be wrong but I think they may be saying that to stop people from collecting pieces to keep
and any shit like this SPACE SHUTTLE COLUMBIA DEBRIS! (Even though that one is obviously fake)
anyway Red Fuming Nitric Acid is nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) and Hydrazine is monomethyl hydrazine (MMH)
From John F. Kennedy Space Center - KSC Fact Sheets and Information Summaries
Hypergolic propellants are fuels and oxidizers which ignite on contact with each other and need no ignition source. This easy start and restart capability makes them attractive for both manned and unmanned spacecraft maneuvering systems. Another plus is their storability -- they do not have the extreme temperature requirements of cryogenics.
The fuel is monomethyl hydrazine (MMH) and the oxidizer is nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4).
Hydrazine is a clear, nitrogen/hydrogen compound with a "fishy" smell. It is similar to ammonia. Nitrogen tetroxide is a reddish fluid. It has a pungent, sweetish smell. Both fluids are highly toxic, and are handled under the most stringent safety conditions. Hypergolic propellants are used in the core liquid propellant stages of the Titan family of launch vehicles, and on the second stage of the Delta.
The Space Shuttle orbiter uses hypergols in its Orbital Maneuvering Subsystem (OMS) for orbital insertion, major orbital maneuvers and deorbit. The Reaction Control System (RCS) uses hypergols for attitude control.
The efficiency of the MMH/N2O4 combination in the Space Shuttle orbiter ranges from 260 to 280 seconds in the RCS, to 313 seconds in the OMS. The higher efficiency of the OMS system is attributed to higher expansion ratios in the nozzles and higher pressures in the combustion chambers. -
ebay auctions already there..
SPACE SHUTTLE COLUMBIA DEBRIS!
well this one is really fake, i checked the coordinates and that's located 5 km from my home. It's near Cologne, Germany. But funny! The current high bid is USD 99Million. Well, the bidder is also fake? -

Re:Lynx? Interactive TV?
Also, my roommate's talking about Neo Geo, which I recall in name only. Any thoughts on that? I'm FASCINATED.
I would guess you're talking about the Neo Geo AES, the home version of their arcade hardware. These things still fetch a pretty penny on eBay, and with good reason. First of all, they sold for $700 initially just like the 3DO. Secondly, despite what a lot of people think the system is still being supported by developers and in fact has had one of the longest lifespans of any console (the last game I know of - Rage of the Dragons - was released in Sept. 2002. The system these days generally gets about 2-4 new games per year). SNK never intended this system to be mass-market - it was always a niche console. It was priced to be profitable right from the start, as were the games, which sold for $300 and up initially and still do. The idea was to generate buzz for the company's arcade business by getting systems into the hands of high-class buyers who would then spread word of mouth about the games and drive people to the arcades where average people could afford to play them - the exact opposite of what most other arcade publishers do today.
The reason for the high game prices? The games were literally the exact same games as you'd find in the arcade. Only the pin-outs of the carts were different (in fact, you can buy adapters now so that you can use the cheaper arcade carts in your home AES system). Lots and lots of RAM, and this back in the day when RAM was not cheap. As RAM came down in price, the games didn't because SNK just kept adding more memory to the games.
A CD-based system was released several years after the AES in order to try to make it more mass-market. But it still wasn't really supposed to compete with the likes of the PlayStation or Saturn - more to just satisfy less cash-rich Neo Geo fans and open up new lines of revenue. The system was still expensive, though the games dropped to around $50. Load times were a major problem, though, and real Neo Geo afficionados avoided the system because of the lack of arcade perfection. Some games were actually enhanced with new redbook audio, but again, it was arcade-perfection that Neo Geo fans wanted. The system was a failure even by SNK's modest standards. (A second version of the system was released to try to fix some of its problems, but it didn't really help.)
There is still a large and thriving Neo Geo community - as you'd expect from a fully alive and thriving console. Neo Geo systems are no longer produced and SNK themselves went bankrupt about a year ago - but not because of the AES system (their arcade business - the core part of the company - fell apart). The system itself, though, is still supported with new titles periodically and is considered by many probably the best 2D system ever. That is, of course, if you're a fan of Neo Geo games - there's always a debate among the "classic gaming" community as to whether SNK ever actually put out any good games or not (most of them were fighting games that didn't differ all that much, though I personally find more variety in the company's titles than most, and enjoy a lot of the smaller, lesser-known games that the company released).
As a Neo Geo owner I have to say that it's still one serious system. Everything about it just feels quality - at least if you have one of the original packages with the old-style large controllers. It's a large system but doesn't look it - with its clean, elegant, bat-wedge design. The cartridges are absolutely monstrous and most of them come in high-quality clamshell cases. Holding one in your hand is like holding a brick. Truly a unique system and one that I definitely recommend owning - no way it belongs on this list of failures. -
Re:Oh who fucking cares.
Who FUCKING cares? AMD is crap anyway. They support Palladium and all that DRM shit. Buy a (UNIX BASED haha) Mac and forget the goddamn Wintel architecture.
This opens up reason for other architectures. Hewlet Packard is selling Alpha hardware, yet at excessive and non-competitive prices. Sun Microsystems is selling UltraSparc hardware. IBM and Apple are selling PowerPC hardware. SGI is selling MIPS hardware. So many to choose from, and all of them support Linux and that means all applications running on Linux will run on all architectures!
I chose the Alpha platform. A 4-year-old Alpha, operating at a mere 500MHz, out-performs a Pentium3!! I suggest going to ebay.com and seach the TITLE AND DESCRIPTIONS for either "Alpha PWS", "21164", "21264", or "Compaq Alpha". Lots of good results. The "Miata" workstations are verry popular and verry fast. Alpha is limited to certain graphics hardware; Radeon 9000 is best you can get and some Alpha motherboards don't run well with the latest graphics hardware and you may be limited to those of only PCI-adapters. -

Re:Yes
Older SDSL modems should do the trick. I know that the SpeedStream 5250 not only works, but when used at both ends can totally autoconfigure a DSL bridge for ethernet at the highest speed your pair is capable of. The best part is that they're old and cheap. You can find them for $10 on eBay, so if you buy them and find out there's a problem with your loop, you're only out $20.
I've seen these things work at 11,000 feet, and the manual for mine says it's possible to use for up to 18,000 feet (measured by line impedance). If you're 2 miles drive from your friend's house you could have 20k+ feet between the two of you, or worse, your line could go through the CO on the way there. If you're too far out for DSL from the CO, you're definatly too far from your friends house if your line makes a stop at the CO first! -

Re:Not the problem
Come on! Are you really trying to argue that people don't think the distortion introduced by tube amps is part of the "character" of their music!? The overdriven tube distortion sound has virtually defined rock music for decades! The "noise" that tubes produce is mostly in the form of even harmonics, which are pleasing to the ear.Noise will always be introduced by pickups, and many consider it to be part of the "character" of the guitar/pickups.
That's very short-sighted. You could just as well say that distortion will always be introduced by amplification (ie. tub-amps), and many consider it to be part of the character.Pickups make noise, most of it desirable, some undesirable. Pickups also have a very significant effect on the final sound that somes out of your guitar. I would consider it a little assuming to try to work out a definition to demarcate the "desirable" from the "undesirable;" a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder (ear of the listener?). Try telling some guy who spent hundreds of dollars (or more) on vintage pickups on eBay that a certain facet of his pickups' sound is just "undesirable noise." He might have thrown down his dollars for that very sound.

If you've figured out a way to download your shorts, there a lot of people in the porn industry that would like to talk to you, especially given EBay restrictions on these sorts of things. -

i really think everyone should calm down, take a few deeeeep breaths, and start using I-statements to tell each other how we feel about what happened here. -
My sad feedback tale.
So this dude bids on an Iomega Buz that I was trying to sell back in November 1999. In the terms of my auction, I clearly stated that PayPal and money orders were the only payment methods I would accept. Furthermore, I stated that payment must be received within a week of the auction's close.
So the winner of said auction sent me an eMessage asking if I'd accept COD. I say no, because I already stated in the terms that I would not accept COD. Cut and dry, right? Nope. Dude gets pissed and questions why I won't accept COD. Does it matter? I said no in the bidding terms!
A week goes by, and I receive no payment from him. I notify him that I'm going to offer the item to the next person down on the list, and post negative feedback to the seller for failing to follow through on the auction (read: failing to comply with a binding contract.) Out of retaliation, the guy posts this:
Complaint: NO GOOD SELLER,,SENT MONEY NEVER RECEIVED ITEM..BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously, anyone who uses all-caps and places two commas together is challenging to deal with, to say the least. As it stands, eBay won't remove the feedback, even though it is easily verifiable as libel. He never sent the money as I told him not to.
The worst part? He has a history of this shiat, and he fucked my otherwise perfect rating.
Pissed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.
