So how do you explain THIS!?

Re:Google aren't evil
Which of course you would have to believe if you where willing to subject yourself to very intimate psychological analysis so that a prgram go intuit what you meant rather than what you typed. While it might be OK for a program on you own private PC to hold the kind of data necessary to reform your search complete with localisation input, blocks, filters and language adjustment in order to send an accurately refined search query to the search engine databases.
Giving that level of psychological access to a for profit, http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/corporate/tenthings.html "You can make money without doing evil", like WTF is that really meant to mean but "you can make more if you are evil" is crazy and attempting gain that sort of psychological access to minors could be considered criminal. Corporations personalties change with the wind, along with changes n majority share holders, who the current executive team is and, of course the cycles of greed that crop up every time the share price starts to lag, especially when it is tied to unrealistic PE ratios which demand high continual increases quarterly revenue numbers.

Re:so....does this mean?
"[Does this mean]the existence of black holes has been proven beyond theory or any possible conjecture?"
Science doesn't "prove" anything and "beyond theory or any possible conjecture" implies something super-natural or divine but yes the existance of black holes has been accepted by science for several decades. You cannot please everyone so I am sure there are still a few who deny the existance of black holes due to the long tail of skepticisim -

Re:So what
If you talk to the Russians, I reckon they would say they "eat 21 million German bank accounts for breakfast". I guess it's only news because it's a western European country.
It's not like getting valid numbers is hard these days though. I mean just google for tons of pages describing it and you can effectively have all the valid numbers you want. -
PS:
Rather than dismissing "uneducated" critcisim you could try some simplistic cross-checking of Tenpenny's feeble publication list with just one reputable mountain of evidence, it will demonstrate how "out there" this woman is.
BTW: It's not compulsory to be educated to be a skeptic but it is cumpulsory to be skeptical to be properly educated. -

Re:Get it in both forms
Excellent points, but "perpetual copywright" is a tad extreme and some sort of "publish or it's public" clause would seem to be in order because collectively this stuff is our culture and copyright owners are given a monoply as an incentive to enhance it for everyone.
If your not willing to permit access to previously published works then I think you have gone too far. As a baby-boomer from the first TV generation I think opening the corporate vaults that contain old cartoons, news-reels, sitcoms, poltical adverts, etc, would clear up many long standing arguments over "the good old days". I'm sure Google would be happy to to pay for the conversion, hosting, etc, and maybe even throw a few bucks back to the owners. OTOH the owners might feel some of the content paints a less than flattering picture (NSFW) of them in hindsight.

Not sure if you have head of them but there are free services on the internet called search engines. Instead of simply spitting out what I spoonfed you perhaps you could try one and come up with an intelligent comment.

This is such old news...
This is such old news that one of my favourite books, Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, has already covered it. Published in 1889, and required reading for anyone with a sense of humour.

Re:Well that was faster than expected...
Pretty sure 'recession' is just 'two consecutive quarters of negative growth'. Then again, according to Google's definerator, there's a bit of slack in the definition.

Re:nothing wrong with corp. support for OpenSource
The problem I have with it is that there are thousands of bugs opened against Firefox, Seamonkey, Thunderbird, etc that have been open for years that don't get addressed because there aren't enough developers.
...and yet they have enough developers to keep shovling in new features, even if many (or most) users don't want themIt has NOTHING to do with a lack of developers and everything to do with open source politics and project management

Re:Strange Complaints
"Which app?" means "which application?"
Its the "I couldn't reproduce this" that I took exception to. That's a terrible attitude for a tech to take, in fact its a bad attitude altogether. Further more it proves nothing. If you had of asked which application on its own, I probably wouldn't of cared responding at all. But more importantly you failed to ask what steps the user took before encountering the problem, most problems being caused by incorrect configuration or use. But dont let that stop you from bashing anyone who has an issue with your beloved Mac.
2. Also a google for Traffic Office manager os x yields no identifiable results.
you didn't try very hard did you?
It's older software yes, and its being replaced in this office by its successor Fabrik (not I'm not doing all your googling for you) which runs on Windows or Linux (probably OSX as well seeing as it is designed to run on OSS programs like apache and postgreSQL but its optimised for Linux). Its a scheduling and CRM program specifically designed for web and print design consultancies, it hasn't got many contemporaries which is why we are still running it.The question is whether you think your trollish bullshit is actually amusing, because if there were a plonk file for slashdot, I'd put you right in it.
Please don't let any facts get in the way of your rampant fanboyism.

Re:WTF?? - Ah!There's still a problem with this - The Kolmogorov scale is all about the smallest scales at which turbulence can occur in a fluid. It is effectively a fundamental constant in a fluid (can fluctuate in time/space, but usually treated as a field constant). Now, according to this source, the K-scale in the ocean is in the order of 1 mm. This means that while vortices may form easily behind 2cm high "scales", they probably do not form so easily behind real shark scales which are an order of magnitude or two below 2cm in length. I believe this is what TFA meant in this part at the end:
Sergei Chernyshenko, an aeronautical engineer from Imperial College London, UK, describes the research as fascinating. However, he points out that while the team have shown the existence of vortices, they haven't yet quantified the extent of the effect on the shark's drag, which he thinks could be minimal.
-
Re:What about TPG?
TPG was bought out by iiNet a few years ago but has retained the brand name and the control to operate independently of iiNet.
Sorry to doubt, but do you have a source for this? I've been OS for a couple of years, but keep in touch with geeky goings-on in Australia, and though I would have heard about this. Furthermore a quick google for 'TGP iiNet ISP' doesn't show any stories about them being bought out...
As I say, not trying to sound rude, just would like confirmation of this.
-
What about Kolmogorov?
The team created artificial shark skin with a 16 x 24 array of synthetic scales, each 2 centimetres in length and angled at 90Â to the surface of the "skin".
This is at least a full order of magnitude larger than the scales on a shark's skin.
According to this source, the kolmogorov scale in the ocean is in the order of 1mm. Therefore, is the effect described in TFA going to actually be present for shark's skin? It seems to me that the effect will be minimal, if it is present at all.. -

Re:Are they distributing the software?
While I appreciate the information you provided & thank you for it, please bear in mind that not all of us have read the GPL from start to finish, or have a copy on hand to cut and paste from. The condescension is not strictly necessary.
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=GPL
First result: http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html
The condescension was not strictly necessary, but not completely unwarranted either. This is not the Ubuntu mailing list, there to gently guide to towards understanding. There would be many here who think that if you're going to discuss the GPL, it isn't too much to expect you to read it first. If you don't, it is not up to us to make sure you feel good about that. -

Re:Barack Hussein Obama and Taxes and Health Care
Yet, we already spend more money per student in public school than nearly all other Western nations. Specifically, we spend 35% more than the Germans.
population of the USA:300 M
population of Germany: 82 M
you think spending 35% more on schools means you should be better educated, even though you have more than 3x the population? I guess I shouldn't be suprised... you're just a product of the shithouse US education system -

Re:Child Porn - Reporting It
There are easy ways to report underage or kiddie porn to the authorities. The following site contains a number of useful links, it was the first site listed after a quick Google search:

Could have hit "I'm feeling lucky" but with a search term like "reporting underage porn" you never know

Re:Good for them!
Can they get blue as well as green and red?
yes yes yes
Can they be injected into skin cells?
Yes, but you may not want to... and it may not last long
Can the glow be controlled by the nervous system?
I'll say 'not yet' rather than a flat out 'no'.
Which tattoo parlour can give me my glow in the dark thought controlled, full color tattoo?
The tools arent that hard to make but getting your hands on the (G)/(R)/(B)/FP is slightly harder... I have them in my lab
;-)Just give me...
1) these (check),
2) a template mask -one for each colour (easy enough)
3) And the GFP in the appropriate DNA vector,
4) ???
5) profit
6) and i can paint with 1" dots a tattoo...I am ***SO*** doing this on the next plant I shoot (not my pic), I only use G(reen)FP on tobacco mainly, so they will have to be monochrome. oh well. just have to put up with green glowing smiley faces on some leaf! No i wont be doing myself (a. I dont have a human vector and b. im not *that* stupid)
p.s. Yes, doing a PhD does make you look for entertainment in odd places.
I looked high and low for GFP tattooed mice (just green dots), which i know i've seen, but google is not my friend.

Re:3m wide but 2km long ?
No, or course.
Seriously, it would be rotating, like every other astronomical body, and we would detect the wildly changing brightness levels.
If it was long, thin and end on, the item would rapidly be rotated by aerodynamic forces until it is side on, where it would instantly break up, like, well, Challenger.
Note that we are looking at the object side-on. It is more like an object that is being gently lobbed into our path. Earth's speed around the sun = 29.7859163 km / sec

It seemed rather familiar to me, so a quick google search came up with a similar article from last year.
Additionally, there is an Australian company that is marketing a SolarCube, which looks like it uses conventional lenses to produce the same effect. The initial design was featured on the New Inventors in 2005 -
Re:Sad to say
"Sad to say, but that's censorship. Coming from someone I respect like Berners-Lee, I am truly disappointed."
Censorship means denying access to information. How does rating the information as (un)trustworthy deny access?

Nothing works perfectly - period! However, this does not mean we throw out the Principa Mathematica.

Nothing. - What's preventing you from learning the SKILL of researching information (eg: the definition of censorship)? -

Re:1906
You are living in a fantasy land if you think we don't need the pollution controls we already have. If the last 50yrs has taught me anything it's that a high proportion of people will shit on their grandmother's dinner plate if there is enough money to be had. Comparing the dumping of toxic waste to video ratings is so childishly naive and irrelevant that I simply don't know where to start.
"If the environmental movement was focused on encouraging VOLUNTARY action from people, I'd be perfectly fine with it."
Then you are either "perfectly fine with it" or simply ignorant.
BTW: Most of the hippies here in Australia live so deep in the bush that they are commonly refered to as "bush bunnies", but maybe it's different where you live. How many hippies have you actually met and what proportion of them tried to "boss you around"?
