30 - 40 years of declining wages mean we're all doing whatever we can to hang on. The most obvious thing is buying cheap stuff from China through online retailers.

It saves me a couple grand a year, which has just barely kept my income ahead of inflation these last few years. I'm just trying to make it until the kid's out of college. I know full well the human cost of it all, but I'm a pretty weak guy. I can barely hang on myself. I know logically that if we'd all stand together we'd be saved but I also know that's just not what happens. I'm an American, and I can't even more than 60% of us to agree that we should all get healthcare. And most of that 60% is in two out of 50 States.

I think the race to the bottom is just going to accelerate. We could stop it whenever we want, but it would mean accepting the occasional guy like this. From what I'd see folks would rather starve to death in the streets than see a guy like that get food stamps and health care.

I think it's somewhat uninteresting that the media is still talking about this shooting. The reason they're doing it, is that approximately half the people in media favor gun control, and they know everyone has heard of this one, so they feel it (as a well-known reference) strengthens their arguments that something has to be done.

I'm not sure why you think anybody gives a fuck about gender, nationality, and gun type. The anti-gun people I hear from all the time, don't seem to care a lot about those things (at least they don't mention them in their .. what did you call it? their "parameters"). They care about guns, and any kind of gun frightens them. If you're expecting the advocacy to be more .. specialized, then you should try some more racist media. But beware that you might find less anti-gun advocacy among racists.

Back on April 11th, Vice News put up a really interesting documentary titled, "Street Gangs on the Dark Web". In the video, a reporter interviews a former drug dealer who has been using Bitcoin and the Dark Web to buy blank credit cards, reprogram them using stolen credit card data on the Dark Web, use the cards to get cash and goods, then use some of the gains to buy Bitcoin anonymously at these exchanges to continue funding his enterprise. And they also shared that a large majority of these walk-up Bitcoin exchanges are in the state of New York.

I suspect the attorney general watched the documentary as well. Because the video has mysteriously been taken down, with no mention found ask to why, and a Google search for "Vice News Street Gangs on the Dark Web" proves the video at one point did exist, but none of the links contain the video any longer. I've got a better tax system in the works, designed to automatically lower your effective tax rate if you don't get rich as fast as the Nation gets rich.

It also has the top tax rate as its final factor, meaning you can raise taxes...on everybody. Go from 40% to 50%? The richest of the rich might pay 50% in taxes (a 25% proportional increase); the poorer folks who were paying 8% are also now paying 10%. We decide the shape of our progressive curve, and then we're all in it. I like this tax social contract.

I also factored in a baseline benefit that pays a fair share of all income to each adult. That's GNI-per-Adult (potential worker) rather than per-Capita. The tax rate at the bottom is effectively negative. That one's starting to get some attention in particularly high circles: it immediately ends poverty in the US without distorting the socioeconomic hierarchy (no weird Communist ideals of everyone earning equal income--a Lorenz curve with a slope of 1). It's still not enough; I don't believe I've solidified the interest of powerful-enough individuals that I no longer matter, but I'm getting close.

I also created a similar Corporate Tax Rate strategy that ensures the right to a fair and reasonable profit in American enterprise. Most commodity businesses make about 8%; so at 8%, maybe your tax rate is 25%-30%. If we set the top of the curve to 50%, it could be that a corporation making 10% is paying 35%, one making 12% is paying 38%, and one with a 25% profit margin is paying 50% of their income in profits. Because of the way we handle corporate taxes--alternative minimum tax and a carry-back of net operating loss for two years, forward for 20--businesses with necessarily-wide risk margins can profit 45% one year and lose 25% in a future year and essentially be taxed based on their long-running average of 8% or 12% or whatever it is.

So imagine that. Your income tax rate is based on the percentage of the per-capita income--modified by OECD adult equivalence (no personal/dependent exemptions)--and so you are taxed based on if you receive more or less of the benefit of society. You get a baseline fair share of the per-adult taxable income (and a minimum-wage tied to the per-adult gross national income). Corporations pay increased taxes when they have large, unreasonable profit margins, and get a tax break when they run on razor-thin margins (not much to tax anyway).

This idea of a fair income tax, fair minimum wage, and a fair share might be the most important advancement in political philosophy since the ideal of popular sovereignty, but we shall see. I came up with it, after all, so it can't really be that significant.

Medicare for all saves us $17 trillion in the next 10 years.

College for all gives us an educated workforce, which unless you're all about the H1-B visas we need. An educated workforce is also one that thinks critically and is much less likely to to terrible things like pointless wars leading up to genocides and the like.

What you are failing to understand about audio resolution is that, while the human ear cannot, by definition, hear ultrasonic frequencies directly, they interact both with other signals in the same ranges and with those well within the range of human hearing to produce complex, lower-order harmonics and transients that humans can very definitely hear.

Just as one example: I own and have for a couple of decades used a Korg Triton digital workstation keyboard. It's a great tool and I love it.

(Here's an example of a recording I made with it where, aside from my voice, and my acoustic and electric guitars, every sound is a product of the Triton.)

However, the samples it employs are CD-quality (44.1 kbps at 16-bit resolution). Last year, I purchased a Korg Kronos 2 to supplement it. That device employs 48 kbps samples at 24-bit resolution - and the improvement in detail, resolution, and overall quality of the instruments (most of which duplicate those of the 1990's-era Triton) is striking. It's so obvious that even my wife, whose ears are strictly untrained, can immediately identify which keyboard is producing a given sound in a blind A/B listening test. (This is with both devices running through the same sound system, using identical cables and connectors, and volume-matched to eliminate the tendency of untrained human ears to perceive louder sounds as higher quality.)

The 1970's-era CD-DA Red Book audio standard (it was formally published in 1980 - the last year of the 1970's - but had been developed over the course of the preceeding 3 years) was developed as a compromise between competing standards championed and patented by Philips and Sony. It was considered "good enough" for consumer audio - a decision that was made based on a number of different, competing factors (cost of components required to reproduce the signal in a consumer-affordable player being one of the most influential), but the biggest one was the technological limitations of that era's digital audio processing technology. In short, it was as good a standard as the mass market could afford.

With the introduction of DVD audio in 2000, consumers finally got access to audio encoded at rates of up to 192 kbps at 24-bit resolution (that's for stereo - 5.1 surround maxes out at 96 kbps). Put both CD and DVD-A editions of Dark Side Of The Moon on the same sound system and A/B them and even you will be able to hear the difference. 96 kbps kicks the stuffing out of CDA's 44.1 kbps, even to completely untrained ears.

Unfortunately for audiophiles, by that time, consumers of digital audio had already become accustomed to crappy 128 kbps MP3 rips, and DVD-A died a slow-ish death in the commercial marketplace. By 2007 it was officially declared extinct, when new releases in the format stopped altogether.

Which is why we're currently stuck with 40-year-old digital audio technology - and also why Neil Young's ultra-high-quality Pono digital audio format is doomed ...

The whole thing started as a Universal Dividend I designed to end all homelessness and hunger in the United States, and eventually turned into rebukes against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, stronger income equity programs, and a minimum wage that doesn't leave the poorest to stay just as poor while the rest of us get richer.

I don't doubt there will still be prostitutes anyway; I just figure there will be fewer, as the ones desperate for survival will suddenly be secure and capable of surviving without resorting to prostitution. Those already affected probably won't surface out of it so easily; but the flow of new, desperate Americans resorting to such means will stop, probably in its entire.
