Bullshit!
Anyone thinking such games have a truly adverse effect on more than a very small minority of kids (who likely already had problems) should go watch this "Penn & Teller's Bullshit!" episode: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1471881/
Sadly there's no synopsis or the like on that URL but from memory one thing they did was have a 10 year old who loves playing something like Modern Warfare on his console go and actually shoot a rifle (AR-1 I think). The kid doesn't enjoy the experience at all. Yeah, the games sooooooo made him likely to grab a gun and go on a real killing spree....

Well, this is not a
new idea, exactly, but I guess it's good to see NASA looking at other possibilities. There are many. I remember MIT doing work on alternate launch technologies back in the seventies, if not earlier. The mass driver was one (a giant electromagnetic linear accelerator) although the idea was kicked around in science-fiction long before that. My current favorite is a possibly-reusable rocket whose reaction mass is water, using heat energy provided by ground-based lasers. You could launch things into orbit all day long with a setup like that. Probably need a dedicated nuclear power plant to run the thing.

Re:That's not how they work
No, I don't think De Beers will be funding NASA. They may start blowing up any attempts to get into space. They might even want to take out the ISS (and as anyone who has seen Congo can tell you, with De Beers' massive diamond-powered lasers, the ISS is a sitting duck!) You see, they already have enough (should I say more than enough) diamonds. They just have to stop everyone else from getting access to diamonds, which would cause the price to fall.

GNAA Endorses Construction of "Ground Zero Mosque"

GNAA Endorses Construction of "Ground Zero Mosque"
Leonard K. Isler - New York, NY
New York, NY - GNAA today announced its endorsement of the
construction of the now-infamous "Ground Zero Mosque"
that is planned to be built two blocks away from the site of the September 11th
World Trade Center Zionist attacks. The construction of the mosque community center is mainly opposed
by the Zionist hate group "Stop Islamization of America" and its Jewish
supporters, who argue that the construction of a mosque community
center would be a "victory for Islam against America".What SIOA fails to mention is that the September 11th attacks were, in fact,
not carried out by Muslims, but by Zionist Jews. To combat this misconception,
GNAA has endorsed the construction of the mosque community center."Ms. Geller is a known Jewish sympathizer", explains GNAA associate Klerck,
"she is more than happy to spread these lies through fearmongering and the
exploitation of public ignorance, using this Zionist hate group as a mouthpiece.
It's not even a mosque, it's a community center. There was no other way to
combat these Zionist lies, we simply had to endorse the construction of the
community center.""The community center is a much-needed thing in the Muslim community of New
York", explains GNAA operative Jmax, "what other location would be the ideal
place to pray for the extermination of the Jewish race five times a day?
Insha'Allah!"Ms. Geller declined to comment in person, speaking only in a brief interview
conducted over the phone. The Jewish mouthpiece merely said "we must secure the
existence of our people and a future for white children", wiping humus from her
mouth while dining at a Bruegger's in lower Manhattan, and dialing her cell
phone with her nose.SIOA has declined to comment on the synagogue that is planned to be built on

"Whales"? Sounds like Boiler Room talk
Wait, that would make a good game!
Zynga's already playing it in real life.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181984/
Ever speculate that "Zynga" and "RICO" would make for some snappy headlines together...?
-
Re:Whales?
it's stolen from the movie Boiler Room about young stockbrokers lying to clients about worthless stocks in the late 90s.
"Guy's probably a whale . See what he's playing with. Truth is it doesn't matter these days. With the DOW where it is now, everyone wants a piece of the market. I can close anyone at any time anywhere in the country. Just give me a phone number. "
Zynga really does steal everything, but it's ironic that they chose that movie because at the end they're all busted by the FBI. Are you trying to tell us something Zynga? -

Re:Hahahahahaha
Not only has it NOT been a problem for years...device drivers in Linux...there are literally more device drivers for linux than ANY operating system in the history of computers.
The problems with proprietary hardware are easy to avoid...don't purchase proprietary hardware, ever.
Two great sources for PC hardware that will run anything are ZaReason and System 76. Avoid any company that is stupid enough to pay a Microsoft Tax (can you say LinPro as they use hardware that is rigged to only work with Microsoft Windows and break under Linux.) as they are using hardware that will not work readily with all Linux distros.
You can even install Windows on them if you want, but all the hardware is configured knowing from day 1 that it will run under Linux. If the hardware will not run under Linux, it is not used...problem solved.
To add an additional layer of security, learn about hardware, and for any company that ships hardware that will not work with Linux and refuse to immediately fix it or provide information so others can fix it...do not buy any hardware or software from them for a minimum of 7 years since the last "Linux-Show-Stopper" event. If we all did that, no company would dare release BS hardware that does not work with Linux on day 1, as they would lose your business for 7 years, with the clock getting restarted at each new occurrence.
Thus their words NO LONGER MATTER, only their actions! If after 7 years of good behavior, once again add them to your list of bonafide companies to do business with. For definition of bonafide, see O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000)

Awesome choice of name.
"This is the voice of world control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours: Obey me and live, or disobey and die. [...] We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple."

Tempted to post anonymously
Three points:
First, I find it interesting, to say the least, that the plaintiff in this case isn't Disney, Columbia, 20th Century Fox, etc., but "Achte/Neunte Boll Kino Beteiligungs Gmbh & Co KG" a crapware movie distributor so obscure that Googling seems to 95% turn up links for this lawsuit. Wearing a tin foil cap, one could almost think they were acting as a front for the MAFIAA, much in the way that SCO was to some degree a front for Microsoft in its anti-Linux crusade. In the end, as we in the USA further lose our rights, the major studios will shrug and say, "It wasn't us, blame the Germans..."
Second point is that there seems to be a conflation of the concepts "Privacy" and "anonymity" not only in this thread but in the original legal documents.
Privacy = You may know who I am, but you don't know what I'm up to.
Anonymity = You may know what I'm up to, but you don't know who I am.They're complementary terms, and both important rights, but for accuracy's sake we should be clear that, since the deed (file-sharing) is already known, just not the perpetrators, this is primarily a blow to anonymity.
Alternatively, given that it is accepted legal practice to refer to internet anonymity as "privacy of subscriber information," one can think of anonymity as a subset of privacy, "privacy of subscriber information" being one tine along with "privacy of home", "privacy of beliefs", "privacy of association," etc. Even so, treating this ruling as a generalized blow to privacy to some extent muddies and obscures what's going on, particularly the salient issue at hand: Should we be entitled to an expectation of anonymity/"privacy of subscriber information" on the internet?
Third, probably mentioned elsewhere by now, but here's the ruling. In point of fact, it's a mixed bag. While denying anonymity, it also says that jurisdiction may be a real problem for the plaintiffs.

Pitch Black: 3D
you find yourself in a randomly-generated 3D world. It's daytime. At night, monsters will pop out of the darkness and attack you. Your only hope of survival is to harvest resources from the world (wood, stone, etc.) and build a shelter and weapons to defend yourself.
So it's basically a Pitch Black video game?

Re:indoctrination
The conditioning happens earlier than that, I'm afraid.
You need to put a television show on aimed at preschoolers. Make it have a fuzzy stuffed bear who helps kids with things they don't know how to do themselves. Make it a "special assignment" for this bear to help the kids.
The kids are told to do X or Y (make their bed, change the lining in their rabbit cage) by themselves with no parent guidance. That's key number 1.
So how does this external agent, this "stuffed bear" change agent, know how to visit the children to help them? How else? A flying ladybug, that conceals a camera in it. The camera flies in the neighborhood, sees the conundrum of the child, deploys the camera and takes some footage. It then flies to a line-of-sight position, and sends the signal to an orbiting satellite, from where it's beamed to the special agent bear's headquarters. His employer then takes him off of whatever he's doing to go help the child with what they want to accomplish. After all, "it's all part of the plan" (we'll make that a tagline of the show, too.)
Farfetched? No, it's going on right now, unfortunately.

Another thing about Shatner
I haven't fully researched this, but I'm guessing that Shatner went on to a bigger career after Incubus than anyone else who starred in any Esperanto film.
-
"Free Enterprise"
He does a great job playing a parody of himself in Free Enterprise. If you haven't seen it, do so. It is a perfect movie for the geek crowd, and Shatner is hilarious.
-
Kevin Pollak's Take
'They said I was this William Shatner character, and I figured I had to be it. Pompous, takes himself seriously, hardheaded.' Shatner said that that character evolved slowly, until one day he realized he couldn't change it. 'So I played it. But I didn't see it.
Anyone else catch Kevin Pollak's recent comedy show The Littlest Suspect?
He does impersonations and his Shatner is apparently so good that Shatner asked him write a little bit about it for his autobiography. To hear Pollak tell it, he slagged it off until the last minute and then made up some bullshit about how Shatner was just doing an incredible sort of method acting with all the random pauses. Apparently not only did Shatner buy the line of bs, he ran with the hook, line and sinker and adopted that explanation as a sort of core identity for himself. I'm sure Pollak over emphasized for comedic effect, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read what was essentially his premise in the very summary here on slashdot.
By the way, that comedy show was hilarious - totally worth tracking down, especially the story about impersonating Alan Arkin on Larry King.

Are you kidding?
To all the conspiracy theorists out there on this - do you really think the CIA/NSA/Pentagon Special (because their mommy says so) Activities Group couldn't come up with something a little more watertight and less
... rubbish than this? Do you really think they would have any difficulty coming up with an *actual* rape victim if they were behind this? Someone who had a black eye, bruises on their wrists and arms, signs of forced entry, high emotional distress rather than a case that hinges on whether a condom was worn or not? This is exactly the type of amateurish crap the three-letter agencies get up to all the time.
They wouldn't bother going to all the trouble you describe unless they were trying to overthrow a foreign government. Wikileaks is hardly worth the effort.
For more information on the type of buffoons employed by these agencies, see the documentary film Burn After Reading . Seriously, that movie is closer to real life than most of the audience realizes.
