Of course, there have been a few spy comedies. Some, like InSecurity, were not well loved, and others, like Chuck, were. They even tried to revive Get Smart as a TV Show, in the 90s. It didn't go well. A new Get Smart TV show could be amazing, but Steve Carrell's too busy to do a TV show, right now.

For some reason, I don't feel like now would be the right time for a comedic spy show (other than the one taking place in the White House), but maybe we'll be surprised.

I just couldn't make it through Season 2. I lost the ability to watch after one too many episodes where plot-induced-stupidity meant the crew was doing things that were completely unreasonable.

However, when I heard they brought Manny Coto on for Season 4, I watched it and you are right. His input made all the difference, they started cleaning up all the junk from the first two Seasons and pretty much ignored Season 3. Unfortunately, it was just too late.

Enterprise is on Netflix, but I can't bring myself to try watching any of the episodes that I didn't watch when it was on the air.

I'm not a Seth fan. Family is OK but the jokes drag on _far_ too long.

I initially wrote-off The Orville pre-judging it to be just another dumb Star Trek spoof. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have loved the first 4 episodes! It is basically an updated TNG.

Jonathan Frakes (Riker) will direct episodes in both series! So them watch'em, and you be the judge. Who knows, you might end up like both. ST:D for being too serious, and The Orville for being too light.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but fail to see where the checks and balances are for "law enforcement". Not from the executive branch, which has been "tough on crime" since Nixon in the 60s. The militarization of the police has gone completely out of control since 2001. (See "Do Not Resist (2016)" or "Rise of the Warrior Cop" 2014 by Radley Balko for some examples). And not from the judicial branch, which usually cheers on the police and fails to hold even the most rampant police brutality accountable.

I cannot elect my local police chief, nor hold him or his staff accountable for their crimes. Around 1100 people die at the hands of US police every single year. Police and other agencies steal billions of USD every year through civil asset forfeitures (see the Washington Post article series from 2014). The whole police and "law enforcement" as an institution, at every level, from local to federal, is now so corrupt and rotten through and through that there seems little hope in reforms, short of a complete purge and very radical new implementation. It is of course never going to happen.

The US police state is here to stay, and with technology, government and "law" on their side, it will only get a whole lot worse. I fail to see how it can get better.

I think that film criticism is, over all, better than ever, because, with its new Internet-centrism, it's more democratic than ever

Being democratic doesn't make something good or correct. In fact, it often has the opposite effect. The vast majority of people are not experts in every field. In fact, the majority of people have less than average aptitude in any specific field. Making film criticism, or anything else that benefits from specific knowledge or experience, more "democratic" makes it objectively worse.

That said, Scorsese is correct. But he's only speaking out because the internet has allowed people who don't suck the anuses of Hollywood elites to voice their opinion. People and the internet absolutely should be hostile and critical of Hollywood and its products. Everything is fucking shit and has been for a while, yet they want to charge more, cater films to Chinese audiences, squeeze out the theaters showing their films, sue everyone for piracy of works that should be in the public domain or that they already own but can't use on a certain device, etc..

You didn't watch the tv show called manhunt Unabomber.

So you're basing your knowledge on a TV show. A TV show that doesn't even proclaim it to be a documentary but rather reports itself as drama. That is your source? You do understand that "based on a true story" != 100% true right? There are lots of details changed in every "based on a true story" drama.

For example The Big Sick is based on the true story of how Kumail Nanjiani met his wife, Emily V. Gordon. Parts of the romance are true. Parts are not true. For instance, the comedy romance is set in the present day whereas the couple met in 2007 so things like Uber and smart phones that are present in the film were not around. Her parents are depicted by Ray Romano and Holly Hunter are nothing like her real parents in their behavior or mannerisms according to both of them.

Besides they wouldn't have had the need to publish the whole manifesto to accomplish what they wanted.

Maybe the The Orville will be successful. Even with the comedy aspect to it The Orville is more Star Trek than Star Trek is these days.

What we have here effectively is outlawing thoughts and ideas. Gone are the days of debate or even discussion (those already get you locked up for posting something wrong or MIBS at you door for the wrong search terms). You're not even allowed to think something is bad, just "thinking" about something irregardless of intent is criminal. If you haven't seen it, I recommend you check out Welt am Draht, a 1978 West German TV miniseries version of the same story. It's very long (3.5 hours) but well worth it. Although I enjoyed both versions, I found the German version much better.
