Sheesh, scientists having to turn to Hollywood for their inspiration ...

I think the neat part of this video is what looks like an airport in the background... Lots of little dots move toward the ground to one spot, with lots of other little dots moving back up into the sky... It looks pretty neat in time lapse!

For those who want to see some really awesome time lapse, I highly recommend the film Koyaanisqatsi.

This is bullshit. The King of Sweden drives his own car to work without much protection. The Prime Minister does her own shopping without bodyguards (unfortunatly, the last one was killed by a drug-addict in a terrible and very sad incident). It's mostly like this in the few civilised countries, where life is good, people are well-off and happy, and that do not threated the world.

Of course, unpopular leaders like Bush, Putin, Kim Chen Ir (sp?), Hussein, etc., need thousands (literally) of thugs "protecting" them. But let me tell you, when you were elected by the people, when people believe you, when they see you care about them and are doing a good job, when they respect you and love you, then you will prevail even when someone attacks you, your government and the constitution of your country. Check out The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, an amazing documentary about a failed US-supported coup d'etait in Venezuela in 2002.

P.S. And just to make myself clear, if I could kill Mr. Bush (or Mr. Putin) without significan risk to my life or if I could support financially a terrorist organisation that would likely do it, I would. Sadly, I don't have the skills, resources and connections necessary to pull it off. :((

wood was interesting in that he didn't seem to understand that what he was making was crap (until later on perhaps). many people have made bad movies, many of them were one time directors, writers, actors, etc. wood kept doing it.

Private networks suffer from the same problems as ShadowCrew - if you let too many people in, one person could comprimise the entire network and learn the identities of everyone. There are websites out there that share waste networks. That just seems silly to me. Waste is about *privacy* so publicizing your existance is just stupid. The problem then becomes finding a group of people you trust who have different content from you.

I read somewhere a while back about a Japanese DVD trading ring - they actually mailed DVD's back and forth, perhaps pirating them once they had them. When you joined you had the name of the person who invited you in attached to your name until you built up a reputation. People looking to go underground would be wise to adopt such a policy. Invitation only, stay small, and develop a reputation system. Don't these people watch undercover movies like Wu jain dao (Infernal Affairs here in America)?

I just sent a complaint email to the abuse team responsible for Net access at a particular USA educational institution that is now hosting, at time of writing, a fake eBay 'phish' site. Presumably, it's just a compromised system cracked by outsiders--if not, then somebody there at said institution has got some 'splaning to do!

The Feds may pay lip service to the spam email problem with Band-Aid approaches like the CAN-SPAM Act, but fvck with the USA money supply (via ID theft in this case) and they will take notice!

I found it to be an entertaining film.

He kept the cost down (by necessity) by pricipally doing all the camerawork, direction, and behind-the-scenes production work himself among other things.

Well, there was Dot, which was a parody that was really close to the mark. More info at The Sneaky Kings website. Startup.com was real, but as a parody, Dot was pretty close to the mark as well. A little too close.

There was a movie about that, which starred Johnny Depp as Ed Wood, and Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. It was directed by Tim Burton.

It was a really good movie. I'm sure there's some irony in there somewhere. :-)

Sure I'd take one of Ed's movies over say... Pearl Harbor any day. But that's because Pearl Harbor wasn't bad, it was mediocre. But Pearl Harbor was much closer to what you'd be taught how to do in film school.

I'm sure Team America would disagree.

So many funny and tragic things happened there that to this day I'm not entirely convinced that it isn't a mockumentary a la Spinal Tap.

For us in old Europe it was a double treat, because we'd get to experience both the dot.com madness, as well as the "standard" American business practices, like the "Monday morning shout" and other weird (for us) motivational stuff.

Definitely check this documentary out if you haven't already.

Back on topic, I read the cached version of her "prayer" and completely agree that it was satire, obviously so, and involved no real threat, from her or somebody else (other than God, who's going to kill all of us one day). Did the people who wrote the movie "Dead Presidents" get visits from the SS? (I love that abbreviation, makes them sound so Third Reichish.)

It's actually a sad story... the guy had to turn to pr0n industry at some point, because nobody wanted to fund him anymore (I'm sure you can guess why)

He tried so hard for so long, putting his heart into something that he believed in (angora sweater fetishes aside) and never made it into the Hollywood system. At least now his films are well known if only for extreme badness. Plan 9 from Outer Space is widely considered to be the worst film ever.

I always think of Russ Meyer (who died just recently) for some reason when I hear Ed Wood's name.
