Re:No biggieYou can start with these:
Genesis 24:22 - earring
or you can go here
Genesis 24:47 - nose piercing
Exodus 21:6 - ear piercing
Exodus 32:2 - earrings
...
"I decked you out in finery...I put a ring in your nose, and earrings in your ears..." (Ezekiel 16:11) -
I have an idea. How about you go here, and find out a thing or two. Like the fact that we've been running 64-bit linux for years, now.
Next 'Ask Slashdot'; "Does anyone know if BonzaiBuddy runs on the internets?"

Re:Why isn't filtering more instantaneous?
Yes.
A friend of mine told be about a wonderful service that searches the Web, called Google. It has a nice feature that you can limit the sites where it will search for.
Try spam plugin site:miranda-im.org, and choose from many spam filtering plugins there. -

Gentoo Tranlate-O-Matic returns!
Gentoo Tranlate-O-Matic returns:
1. My time is better spent doing things other than compiling basic system utilities.
"The install would have been faster if I would have RTFM'ed and learned about Stage3+GRP or had http://justfuckinggoogleit.com/"
2. My optimized Gentoo system does not run faster enough to make up for the time lost building it from source.
"I really did trust the ramblings of clueless newbies of any distro."
3. Turns out there was nothing to learn from installing Gentoo from stage 1. I already knew what goes into a system at the most basic level, but I got this from 10+ years of Unix/Linux experience, before I ever saw Gentoo.
"I cheerfully ignored the good stuff, like for example an excellent initscript layout, and whine on /. how gentoo is not completely different from other linux/unix setups."
Going to try MEPIS now. 'Sposed to be easy and painless.
"Next week, you will hear be bitch about MEPIS." -

Re:Is anyone else curious what SSA trees are?
Yes, I was curious what SSA trees are, so I clicked the link. I realize this is slashdot, but do try and overcome your fears and RTFA or just google it to find this paper on SSA.

Re:B.S.
You know, I'm surprised at this: there's one source all others refer to, and it's being looked over. YOUR GOVERNMENT PUBLISHES IT'S FIGURES! THEY ARE OFFICIAL (or as official and trustworthy as they'll ever get) AND THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR FREE, ONLINE! Check this link

Re:The math is wrong.
No, it's not.

GoogleYou need some simple script driving mkisofs and cdrecord. When you Google for cdrecord mkisofs backup, the first result is scdbackup:
Simplified Backup on CD or DVD for Linux
Sounds exactly like what you need. There are many more tools like that. Good luck.
Purpose:
backup large amounts of data on one or more CDs or DVDs,
simple (therefore no excuse not to do the backup),
no special tool needed for reading the backup -

Re:Know your knife laws
Someone mod parent up....
Seriously, if you travel via air, none of these work. If you travel, you are going to have to pack everything tool-wise, since nothing is allowed in your pockets anymore. Given that, Jensen is your friend.... That being said, there's nothing wrong with Craftsman. Visit your local Sears, and assemble a small kit. Consider including a 1/4" ratchet, sockets, and some pliers. I'd recommend a small set of vice-grip needlenose, a set of straight and curved needlenose w/ wirecutters, and a small set of snap ring pliers. A versatile bit-driver and a set of bits (flat, crosstip, hex, torx, security....) rounds it out. Not much you CAN'T work on give this, and it will all fit in a shaving kit.
For the nit-pickers, yes, I know that the TSA list specifics on exactly what is and is not allowed. Having printed the list out in preparation, and shown it to the agent at security, I still lost. My recommendation: give money to the EFF and don't piss on superman's cape in the mean time. John Gilmore is my hero.
No links to the above, other than Pseudo-Google. -

Without any reason?
Without any reason? You can find many reasons here. Seriously... the random number generator predicting future... just accepting it as "science" without any reason puts you in the same category as a religous fanatic in my book.
-
Re:Solution
What are your grounds for dismissing the random number generator story?
What I my grounds for dismissing any story posted in James Randi's Commentary column (where I am sure we will read about this random number generator very soon)? Good question... Because it is a pseudoscientific bullshit maybe? Because it is quack science? Because I don't instantly believe in every crackpot hypothesis? Gee, I don't know...
I am interested because what I have read so far on the Princeton site has, at best, not convinced me either way on the matter.
You have read only their own website? You can find more info here. -

Re:RMS?
This is why linux isn't more accepted. I mean, why not support mp3 out of the box? People look at linux and say "it doesn't even PLAY MP3s!" Yes, yes, we all know you can just install mplayer or something like that but it's stupid.
OK, I'll bite. When you install Debian you have two independent choices to make: (1) do you want non-free packages? Y/N, and (2) do you want non-US packages? Y/N. There are tens of MP3 players in the standard place. The MP3 encoders are in the non-US section (which is transparent, once you select that you want non-US everything is just a one big respository) which you can use even in US. Yhe point is that you have an easy option to opt-out if you don't want to use any software that may be potentially illegal in the US. Every Debian version is divided between: base, non-free and non-US packages, plus a separate respository for fast security updates. Also, you can use any non-standard Debian respository of your choice, which will integrate with your apt-get just fine. There are a lot of packages to download. You can find such packages here. -

Hrm....
(1) SMB:
The support is there fore most distros to use an AD server for authentication, (users, not groups, and the users must exist in the password file). On fedora, which I recommend as an alternate to RHEL (RedHat is the easiest to configure in this area imho), the command to look at is authconfig. Enter your domain, your primary and secondary servers, and your AD auth setup is done.
(2) VPN:
consider using PopTop as a pptp vpn server for linux. There is documentation available but there are also other ways of doing it
(3) Research:
Do some research. The Linux Documentation Project is a good source. But google is your friend as well. -
