Doh! George W Bush isn't a miserable failure. Currently the big winner for being a miserable failure is Michael Moore.

How to Win friends and Influence people
Ever wonder why people don't like america ?
Disclaimer: I am not attacking you, or your country, I am voicing an opinion that is not entirely mine but a mixture of many people, rather than modding me down , reply with valid and thought provoking responces. Many of my friends are American , every american person I have met has been a nice/good person.
America driven by fear now spys on/raids arabs living in America just incase they bomb someone.
Americans fear anyone even themselves, their neighbours and their children (metal detectors in schools?).
better watch out this guy criticises america too. oh wait he is American. America is in the middle of a witch hunt. America always seems to be in a witch hunt somewhere tehy have been since the witch hunts. ( and I'm not saying they don't catch the odd "witch") but when they get innocent bystanders well, often the bystanders and their family dislikes the USA as a country and a people (will this man's deported wife and kids love america or hate america for taking away their daddy).
The USA's fear of the reds over in russia (those dang com u nasts) caused the USA/CIA to train Bin Laden. oops now we fear Bin Laden.....
This Nut case (Bin Laden) and hate monger (I have no love for him) is using anti-US sentimint to gather a literal army of american hating terrorists.
So now Bush JR invades Iraq (a Country diametricaly opposed to terrorism, yet their ex-boss didn't like the US) so america invades and kills alot of them an loses american servicemen at an alarming rate. Whoever comes to power in iraq (lets hope he's better than the last US supported leader there) will leave some people there ostracised and Blaming the USA. why did america invade there ? fear ? because Sadam didn't say he condemed the (9/11) bombers. america feared he might attack next... and invaded with no proof. well maybe GWB made some up.
Maybe this is a rant, but maybe america should reach for an olive branch before they reach for their Colt M4s.
as an aside if I was to say (and I'm not) "Drop dead Bush" - is this under america's laws planning regicide ? -
Re:Miserable FailureWell, on the more positive side, you really can't accuse Google of having a liberal bias.
Just look at the third result for your search.

Re:Fact vs. Truth
If you really want to get technical, the definition of truth starts with conformity to fact or actuality. If you pay attention to usage (the final arbiter of definitions), you realize that the things that are considered to be "truth" are those things which are not currently provable, and are therefore subjective. Examples of this are religion (check out truthforlife.com), and politics (we hold these Truths to be self-evident...).
One of the biggest abuses of this word is religion, where facts and evidence are non-existent. Even given the premise that these details about God's existence have a fixed and objective state, it is utterly, completely, and totally impossible to objectively demostrate the actual state of reality one way or the other. All arguements attempting to prove God's existence or qualities are either self referential (God exists because the Bible says so) or purely subjective (I have faith, therefore he is).
We very often use the word Truth when we want to convince the other side that our opinions are the only possible explaination, especially when our research is faulty, or when we don't want people to compare what we have to say against facts. A good example about this is the web page "Truth About Bowling (for Columbine)". While he does site a number of facts, the spin he puts on it is significantly different than the account given by Michael Moore himself. BOTH OF THESE ARE TRUTH. You get to pick which one you prefer, or build your own.
When it comes down to it, any time you see the word "truth" these days you have to assume that it means that someone wants you to swallow their version of things. To get something that better fits reality at large you have to pick the facts out of several accounts and build your own "truth". -
Moore's responseAnd Moore has published a response to these and other criticisms. Of course, it's still a case of he-said/she-said, but he does cite some pretty reliable sources for his facts. And, as he points out, he hasn't been sued by the NRA. I think they might have sued if they could prove falsehood.
There's also an interesting third-party discussion of Moore's response on kuro5hin.

I doubt it. Here's Moore's response.

Re:Watch Bowling for Columbine
Perhaps you should take a look at Moore's reponse.
-
Re:Watch Bowling for Columbine
Of course there is a rebuttal, but it is somewhat out of date as the actively maintained attack sites have responded by removing some, and deemphasizing others, of their rebutted accusations. Moore is probably due for a follow-up message.

Re:Isn't it obvious...
But I wouldn't say that self-styled republicans are "led" by people like Limbaugh, though -- it's probably more likely that they just like to hear him talking up views that they came to rationally in the first place.
Given that Limbaugh merely spews hatred whether or not there is any actual basis to what he says, I don't think it would be possible to reach those views "rationally".
This is, I assume, why democrats like people like Michael Moore, who while a total liar , is still well liked by a lot of self-styled liberals.
Ah, a link to more made up hatred with no basis in fact. Perhaps you would care to go to Michael Moore's own site where he actually responds to these ridiculous lies ( which only a complete moron would actually believe in the first place).
This is exactly what I and the original poster are saying. You have rabid morons spewing hateful lies and the people, like yourself, who are too dumb to actually think, research, or do much besides swallow and puke back up the drivel you slurp up because it agrees with your own hates.
Seriously, decent human beings are getting very tired of your ignorance affecting our lives.
Try and act like you have some sense of decency for once in your life and quit spreading the hate-filled lies you have been fed.

People detained in Guantonimo have NO rights, even those given to non-citizens.
Yes, they do. They have obtained the right to gun privacy. (My original source for this is the book by Michael Moore called "Dude, where's my country?", but the above link was the first I could find on google. :) ) -
Re:He's A Conservative...
Remember folks -- and this may be difficult to believe -- sometimes bloggers polictical bloggers lie too. Moore has addresed these criticisms in some detail, including unedited transcripts and footage of the interviews that Spinsanity say he faked.

Re:You didn't get it.
Let's hear from someone who can recite a similar litany explaining how NPR is left-wing. Indymedia is left wing. Pacifica is left-wing. There is no major national left-wing news television or radio network at the present time.
I just wanted to repost that to remind you. I'm interested in hearing how NPR is slanted, specifically. I gave several examples.
I swear to Jeebus I'm trying not to be blinded by my politics, I'm trying to "call 'em like I see 'em." I'm looking for examples.
The Ombudsman was reporting what the listeners wrote to him. This is kind of an unfair example- the subject was Bill O'Reilly- it was a show ABOUT Fox News and it's most famous personality.
I listened to the Terry Gross interview- I thought she was just wimpy, not liberal. In my mind at least those two are not the same. Bill rolled right over her- without addressing any of the substantiated lies she mentioned from Franken's book. Terry Gross may be biased agains unethical journalists, and I share that criticism of O'Reilly with her. She asked questions that attacked his credentials- but couldn't he defend himself? His response to any criticism at all seems to be to attack rather than to appeal to the facts of the matter. Good for ratings, bad for empiricism.
By the way, I'd appreciate a pointer at *any* credible debunking of Franken's book. The ombudsman cites the "popular left-wing (mis)perception" of Mr. O'Reilly. Please explain to me what part of that perception is incorrect, because I am not blind, I simply do not know after my own investigation which consisted mostly of googling for reviews and looking for a point-by-point rebuttal from Mr. O'Reilly (like the one we finally got from Michael Moore, after reading the Franken book. I realize we're getting off topic here, but I want to make this clear:
I don't get my reasons because I'm a liberal (in fact, on most issues I'm more of a libertarian truth be told)- I have reasons for what I believe, and will change my beliefs in the face of compelling evidence.
I want very badly for someone out there to prove that Franken was the real liar, and that O'Reilly, Bush, Coulter and co. are honest and consistent. I want to believe that things are not as bad as they seem, but the facts seem to dictate otherwise.

Remember Lyons vs Michael Moore?

Not that it's really relevant to the discussion in any way, but yes he most certainly has backed up his claim very firmly.
If you have any evidence to the contrary I'd be facinated to hear it. -
Are you sure its the same Dan Lyons? What SCO Wants, SCO Gets:
In other words, like many religious folk, the Linux-loving crunchies in the open-source movement are a) convinced of their own righteousness, and b) sure the whole world, including judges, will agree.
Forbes Technology: Dan Lyons:They should wake up...
Linux will turn out not to be the savior everyone thinks. Customers will begin to realize that IBM...doesn't "give" you "free" Linux--unless you pay through the nose for hardware and services. Someone might notice that it's been 10 years since Linus Torvalds created Linux and there's still not a decent desktop version that an ordinary person can use. Someone also might notice that Red Hat's...sales aren't growing very much, and that the company only shows a profit when it fiddles the numbers around into an "adjusted" basis, not when it follows GAAP rules.
This is the same Dan Lyons who attacked Michael Moore's film on the basis that the bank doesn't provide the gun on the spot, something which Moore himself has been able to back up.If you really know him, tell him to give me a holler. I'm available through the E-Mail listed here as well as the address I gave Forbes (along with my real name). He can do an easy search on the text since what I posted here is my Letter to the Editor verbatim.

Patriot Act and terrorism
Next thing you know, Michael Moore's website will be on that list.
Some of you may worry abot the freedom of speech on the internet, I think we should worry in a larger scale.
I'm lucky I'm not a US citizen: I don't want my site to be on that list because I question a lot of international politics on it.
That Partriot Act is designed to end the freedom of speech, wether on the internet or in real life (ok, for some of us, including myself, the internet is real life).
Just wonder if we can do anything about it? -
Re:Inflammable means Flammable? What a country!
the main problem is that these fuel cells can be easily reconfigured to contain highly explosive materials for use as portable bombs.
So can cigarette lighters and they are still allowed on airplanes. -
Re:Advocates of freedom don't advocate this.
Here are some examples of Uncle Sam subsidizing big-business:
-$1.6 million to McDonalds from 1986 to 1994 to help market Chicken McNuggets in Singapore
-Exxon claiming $300 million in tax deductions on the settlement they paid when the Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil in Alaska
-$11 million to Pillsbury to promote the Dough Boy in foreign countries
-$1 billion to Lockheed Martin to help cover the cost of plant shutdowns.
All of this while these companies close plants and factories, move jobs overseas and record record profits!

Democrat vs. RepublicanLet's face it, they are basically all Republicans.
The only difference is that the "Democrats" are to gutless to admit it.
Although I disagree with Michael Moore on a lot of issues - he has some good points to make on supposed Democrats and their Republican-esque actions (that's right "last-minute-pardon" Clinton, I am looking at you).
I would taunt you and your country for allowing such a situation to evolve - except that the situation here in Australia is amazingly similar...
:)I would become a politician, but I hate myself enough already.

Re:Don't all move to this!
Actually, the way SETI works allows for any workload over an extended period of time. The samples that your computer is analysing have been around for quite some time; they are transmitted from regions that are light years away! In addition, it is only once every year or so that they have a real chance to look for anything interesting that they find. As far as a cure for SARS goes, I have an elderly grandmother who was rushed to the hospital for unrelated reasons shortly after the start of the SARS scare in Ontario. She was taken into an ambulance by men and women wearing full environmental suits. She has since been released, quite possibly too early (they still don't know what was wrong with her), so I'm anxious for the world to just deal with SARS. This is a prime example of the Fear Consumption Model brought to us by Marilyn Manson and Michael Moore. The more we fear, the more we consume. As a whole our society has seen millions of dollars spent on research on a disease that has only killed 295 people out of over six billion. When diseases were feared in the past it was worth fearing them: Justinian's Plague (541-544AD) killed 40% of the population of Constantinople; In the 14th Century we saw as many as 800 people a day dying of the Bubonic Plague -- 30% of Normandy's population was decimated. By comparison, SARS has managed to destroy less than 0.0000005% of the world's population, infecting a mere 0.000077% of the population.

Re:I hope
Interesting that you say this, because Michael Moore in his latest rant claims that the "backlash" from his Oscar comments have resulted in more sales of his products and greater attendance of his movies. He also says the same thing happened to the Dixie Chicks, in contrast to the media reporting boycotts.

Re:This is insane
Shock me. How much?
I can't give you a grand total, but here's a quote from an article with some numbers.Greenpeace researchers discovered records listing Pepsi as the exporter of about 4,500 tons of plastic scrap in 23 shipments during 1993... Much of the waste was dumped at the site of a factory owned by Futura Industries in Tiruvallur, outside of Madras... The senior manager of the Futura plant, Dr. L.R. Subbaraman,
Of course I haven't been to India and seen it myself, so I'm relying on the article's author, and the reputation of organisations such as Greenpeace. I found the article through a reference in Michael Moore's book "Stupid White Men", where he also talks about recycle bags being dumped in landfill in the U.S. ... reports that Futura has imported a total of 10,000 metric tons of plastic waste from Pepsi and other companies since 1992." [article written in September 1994]
Much of the waste was dumped at the site of a factory owned by Futura Industries in Tiruvallur, outside of Madras. "As we came over the hill in our auto-rickshaw, we saw a mountain of plastic waste," recounts Madras environmentalist Satish Vangal, one of the researchers who discovered the site. "Piles and piles of used soda bottles stacked behind a wall. When we got closer to the factory, we found many bottles and plastic scrap along the road and blowing in the wind. Every bottle we saw said 'California Redemption Value.' They were all from California's recycling program and now they are sitting in a pile in India!" explains Vangal. "We have enough problems dealing with our own plastic wastes; why should we import other peoples's rubbish?" -
Model Rockets = Bad, Butane Lighters = Good
This is so funny. Model Rocket Engines are a hazard to humanity and can not, of course, be transported on Airplanes.
Butane Lighters on the other hand are perfectly safe and exactly the thing one wants to have inside an airplane cabin so that deranged people like Richard Reid can use them to explode bombs.
Where's the logic, reason, understanding, intelligence...oh, sorry, had momentarily forgotten who it was that paid for the current government in the first place. Sigh.

Re:What About Amazon?
The same thing seems to happen (or used to happen) at IMDB, they have Star Wars as no. 9 from their Top 250 movies, it used to be higher (competing with Shawshank Redemption for No. 1) if that's not the power of so many computer geeks who know the site who gave it a good rating, whereas non-geeks wouldn't even know what a database is (imagine the time before everything had www.YOURCOMPANYNAMEHERE.com). But IMDB is probably mainstream and that sort of thing doesn't happen that much anymore.
The "Ask Slashdot" Questioner should inform the librarians about this, probably on their own net-forums and chatrooms, which Michael Moore hypothized to exist. -

Facts
By far the most potent vault of gun facts on the Internet is GunCite
It is a wonderful source of gun information, and a far better source than even Snopes for combatting gun misinformation. Additionally, I would recomend Michael Moore's new movie Bowling for Columbine - if you are an American interested in learning about guns in America, you can learn more about gun advocates in the two minute Terry Nichols interview than you can in a year of attempting to decipher NRA mailings. 'There are real nuts out there!' exclaims Terry. And he is quite right.
Despite the recent California Supreme Court decision, I think every reasonable American knows that the founding fathers designed the second amendment to allow all Americans access to personal firearms. Muzzle loaded, smoothbore, single shot flintlocks. Of course, the idea of giving a person today's concealable automatic ceramic-barreled teflon-round armed killing machines would have been complete anathema even to Patrick Henry, and it is likely that the Supreme Court will get around to upholding a ban on everything but black powder smoothbore, but until then we'll have to tolerate the nutjobs.

Re:Just curious...Michael Moore's works may be banned as well. "Stupid White Men?" The title alone seems to violate the new law:
The Council of Europe has adopted a measure that would criminalize Internet hate speech, including hyperlinks to pages that contain offensive content.
The provision, which was passed by the council's decision-making body (the Committee of Ministers), updates the European Convention on Cybercrime.
Specifically, the amendment bans "any written material, any image or any other representation of ideas or theories, which advocates, promotes or incites hatred, discrimination or violence, against any individual or group of individuals, based on race, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin, as well as religion if used as pretext for any of these factors."
According to Moore's works, "Stupid White Men" are responsible for all evil on the planet. That would be ideas and theories that promote hatred against a group of individuals based on their race, color, descent and ethnic origin. -
See _Bowling for Columbine_ re: crime FUDMichael Moore has made a great movie about America's culture of guns and fear. It's mostly documentary-style, and covers a lot of ground, including an interview with the head of the NRA.
He also interviews some Canadians. See, Canada has lots of guns, easily available, and very little gun violence. And people don't lock their doors in Canada. A typical interview with a typical Canadian woman (from memory):
"Do you lock your doors at night?"
"No."
"Has anything bad happened?"
"Not really. People have come into my house and vandalized it while I was asleep."
"And you still don't lock your doors?"
"No."
"Is there anything you're afraid of?"
[laughs] "Not really, no."Quite a contrast from American mindset! Yes, America may be heading for the world of 22 Buttons, but it's quite unnecessary. We let our media scare us. He quoted a very interesting statistic. In some recent time period, gun murders were down 30%, reporting up 600%--or something like that; I clearly remember the 600.

librarians and the revolution
Go ask Michael Moore what he thinks of librarians. Not only are we anti-censorship champions, but according to him, we are also subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. i'm not one to disagree.

Re:Reality Television takes on Corporate AmericaIt has already been done by Michael Moore. It was called TV nation. It lasted about 6 episodes on NBC, and then about that many again on FOX.
It was quite a bit more in your face and honest that other so-called 'reality' or 'news magazine' shows. It featured Cracker the Corporate Crime Chicken who investigated questionable tax breaks for businesses, banks, and such. This, of course, was too much for the mega media conglomerates. One of the first shows asked the CEOs of major corporations to use the products they made and justify the very large salaries.
The show was, admittedly, at times silly, but always interesting. My favorite was a story about this African American guy who was stopped by the DC police over 20 times because they thought he was a criminal. He was not, and TV nation ran radio ads and installed billboards to inform the police of this fact.

Robber Barrons
Agreed. It all comes down to the fact that newspapers/other media costs alot more to produce now than they charge, leaving the companies completely dependent on advertising. And we can guess where that might lead. Of course if they didn't spend all their bucks on speculative investments, color photos, and whiz bang infographics, they might actually have some money left over for reporting, and not be in this stitch. Call it survival of the fittest, or the stench of monopolies (what is it, something like 5 companies control essentially all the news and media outlets in the U.S....thats worse than the 7 oil companies [though i guess they overlap]), or even the fucking fascists, any way you cut it the comman man gets screwed. And the common stupid man gets it doubly.
