Re:Must just be the majors. The indies are thrivin
hehe, cool! there's a new track called "Addict" on our myspace (I know, I know, as a techie it's horrible, but it does work for reaching 'normal' people). It's the first thing we've finished from our next cd which should be finished by about, um, March (hopefully!).
I also uploaded the "Timestorm" album to last.fm. You can stream it all and download two of the tunes free (only 128kbps, which I find pretty unlistenable, but hey, it is only a taster). We've sold out of the CD now, but we'll still sell DRM free, LAME-encoded 320s to anybody who wants it. Unfortunately I can't seem to get CubeCart to talk to Paypal, so the actual shop with automatic secure download link presented upon receipt, isn't there yet. You have to trust us to email you the download link :( -
Re:Surface Dust
lizzards Whoa, that sounds like an awesome band name.
Already been done:
"Band Members Kenny Wilson. Also plays with rock band The Lizzards and 60s themed duo White Rabbit (play psychedelic classics). Helen Butterfield plays violin and sings on the tracks on this site."

Some more info and removal instructionsLolo has written a pretty good MySpace blog entry about this, along with some removal instructions (in the comments and in my post also). One of this guy's hobbies is exposing MySpace scammers. He actually predicted about a week ago that an exploit like this would happen. Friend him if you have a MySpace. I can't tell who came up with this information first, Lolo or these guys but Lolo may have gotten there first. Either way you need to read his blog posts if you use MySpace...
Please note that you can be infected by this virus by simply viewing an infected profile. It doesn't matter what browser you use, I was using Firefox 2.0 with AdBlockPlus and a decent filterset updater and was infected. I DO NOT believe it steals your password without going to the fake login page. So if your profile gets infected you are probably fine simply removing it
Here's how to remove it:
Use the FIND command or CTRL F to find the word LOGIN.
It starts with this line of code ... I have stripped out the first "style type="text/css"
The code was at the very end/bottom of my ABOUT ME section.
div table td font { display: none }
div div table tr td a.navbar, div div table tr td font { display: none }
.testnav { position:absolute; top: 136px; left:50%; _top: 146px
It then continues with an obvious line of code for the menu choices. I stripped out the code and the page is fine ... FOR NOW!
To truly protect yourself you need to adblock the offending Quicktime object - or better yet all .mov files. -

Actually, myspace can be very useful! We recently found out a friend of ours was one of the two victims of the NorCal Rapist, so created an information page and a myspace profile to try to create public awareness of the creep and also hopefully catch him. For the myspace profile, we ask anyone that has a myspace profile to add our profile to their top friends and urge their friends to do the same.

Re:Why you SHOULD buy friends on myspace...
Why on earth would an employer be looking at someone's myspace page to decide whether to hire them or not? What happened to interviews? If you want to create fake information. Just buy a domain, get some cheap hosting, and create a Professional looking site all about you. This would be a plus if you are trying to get a job in web development or in technology in general. It actually shows your knowledge. Another plus is that http://meettheprofessional.com/ looks a lot better than http://myspace.com/jacktheraper. You can put any fake quotes you want on there, or just add a wordpress blog to it and add fake comments. It's a lot better than inducing a seizure in a potential future employer.

I posted something similar
Ok , now let me break it down for you. Based on the above links showing the Microsoft Innovative Features, and the little video clip of Pirates Of Silicon Valley, which is based on a True Story mind you, I have come to this conclusion: Seeing as Microsoft, has stolen code before, and hates Linux so much, as I have shown in the past, this selection right here gives you the information you need to know, if you read between the lines: At Microsoft we undertook our own analysis of our patent portfolio and concluded that it was necessary and important to create a patent covenant for customers of these products. What they are saying, if you read between the lines is this: " There are parts of code, somewhere, in some feature of Windows, be it current, or Vista, that are copied parts of Novell IP." In order for them to not get thier ass handed to them in court by Novell AGAIN, they need to come up with some solution, that will allow them to skate by and not get sued. Whats the best way to do that ? Make a deal with Novell, saying " We wont sue you, if you dont sue us"
.. Thats it, its that simple. Since Microsoft is claiming that Linux has thier IP code, and they checked out thier portfolio, why else would they need to make an agreement like that, "IF" Microsoft didn't have any of Novell's Makes sense to me. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog. view&friendID=20324789&blogID=196478440&Mytoken=0B 8E5F8B-DD46-4538-A56268A5523D6F4713954253 -

Re:Inspiration to us all
Heya;
I'm not a visa service, but the visa is 200rmb (USD24), I applied in Beijing both times through my travel agency, adding 4% to the air ticket cost. Foreign diplomats and foreign media are not permitted access. All others are OK, from what I've seen.
China Mainland includes all except HK, Macau, and Taiwan (even though TW is where the Kunming retreated to, TW is Greater-China, in BJ's eyes -- tough love for an errant child). There are also 4 cities in China that have rules like District of Columbia in the US: the municipality is federally-run (BJ, TJ, SH, and SZ?). Tibet is an autonomous region: Beijing allows it more latitude to run itself right now. Tibettans can vote for some levels of government, actually, according to Xinhua articles.
You need an additional visa to Tibet, but it's not too difficult nor expensive. If you visit Zhumolangmashan, you'll also need an additional visa: 600rmb (UDS75) for foreigners, 35rmb (USD5) for your guide and driver if they are PRC citizens, and we were also charged 100rmb (USD12) for our vehicle.
The point of my original article was: take a look before you render such a strong opinion, and I will help you get that look if you really want to. Visa discussions are a bit of a rat-hole tangent, best chased by skinny little terriers.

Re:Don't worry about fair use
MySpace doesn't have to respect fair use. They can remove anything they want from their servers. Willy-nilly removal of stuff just to cover their ass is a great reason to avoid dealing with them, but they can do whatever they want. They can even change their mind, at any time, about what they want to do:

Re:someone should tell the phishers
According to Tom (the guy who runs Myspace, I think) spammers can use login credentials to send spam to friends of a user. There are also screenshots on Tom's blogpost - it seems the best workaround so far is instructing users to type myspace into the address bar themselves before logging in.
-
Re:NOT on Myspace's MAIN PAGE
Yes, I noticed that.
I also noticed that the summary doesn't make any mention of it being a profile page. The article itself doesn't tell you it's a profile page until much further down. Seems like this would be the first thing to point out.
Based on the summary, I got the impression that you would be presented with the false login form if you went to http://www.myspace.com/ -

Re:NOT on Myspace's MAIN PAGE
From the Myspace Security Bulletin
5.ALWAYS LOOK at the address bar when asked to login...
MAKE SURE that it is a MYSPACE.COM address.
FOR EXAMPLE:
http://login.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=logi n
----------------------
avoid things like
http://login.iwantyourpassword.com/index.cfm?fusea ction=login
The most important part is of course that the address had "myspace.com" in it
If you ever doubt the login pages...start over back at myspace.com
Heh, it passed the important part.
Confused on why this is phishing and not just your basic hacked server. I mean this sounds like someone inserted there own code a myspace protected server. -
Re:M.E.H.
Security conscious people use MySpace? Who knew...
There's even a Slashdot group on it actually. And as security concious as I am, I didn't see what was wrong with the two first example screenshots on Tom's blog about phishing, I think that if I went through one of these fake login-page profiles I might have fell for it, just because I don't expect to get phishing from a page on the genuine site itselves. Lots of people in my MySpace friends fell for it, and almost half of the bulletins in my bulletins list is the direct consequence of that.
As I commented on Tom's blog post, they have a big security issue for technically allowing phishing (among others, I suppose) happen on their own site. IMHO they're giving users a too great HTML/CSS freedom.

Big Smile!
Why is it that merely reading a single headline can bring a BIG smile to my face. I don't hate this man, but I seriously believe that he is nothing more than a publicity whore.
If anyone is interested, here is an open letter I wrote to Jack Thompson a few months ago. It pretty much sums up my opinion on this man. Yes, I know it's MySpace, but I'm cheap and it's free.
If we give him a peanut and ignore him will he go away?

Re:Self-Deprecating Humour is the Key
Not only that, he also seems to have a keen musical talent. Not just his use of rhythm. For example, listen to the use of harmony in "Hardware Store" on his MySpace page It's an original song and it's fantastic IMHO.

Re:Support for programming and layout features
I have never quite understood why, as well, there is not some sort of portable font system that could be used in web pages, where if a font is unavialable locally, one can be including on the web site, downloaded, and temporalily used to display the web page.
Okay. I just did a Google search and found a random ugly MySpace page (don't click if you value your sanity). Now imagine that this guy can make you download fonts, as well.
Even aside from that, and copyright concerns, can you wait until someone starts serving up corrupted fonts and 0wnz1ng computers with them?

The Sword - Freya
Not many people have heard of the small band from Austin, The Sword. They are a truly excellent band, and their driving riffs make them perfect for a game like Guitar Hero.
They sound like early Black Sabbath, but with a Celtic/Viking fantasy theme. And their live act is damn near flawless. They're on tour right now, and if they play anywhere near you, I highly recommend seeing them now while they're still playing smaller venues.
I'm really impressed that they were able to get into something as big as Guitar Hero 2. I have a feeling Freya is going to be a beast to play. -

Re:116 million MySpace accounts so far...
And I account for two of them. When I thought about putting my music on myspace I didn't take the time to closely examine the page and see that there was a separate music section. So I created a crappy little "social" account. There are a ton of bands and movies out there along with other commerical entities. Yes, there are many older folk, but to think at all that those 116 million accounts represent 116 million individuals is wrong.

Re:I never understood this
I started playing guitar at the age of 14. At the time Ozzy Osbourne and Iron Maiden were my absolute favorites, so I naturally started trying to play their music. Within two months I could play just about everything on the Randy Rhodes Tribute album, and even now - 18 years later - I still don't consider myself a great guitarist. I just happened to practice those songs incessantly for the first 6 months or so. Then I joined a band and started writing music. Now I still write (my music), but as I have a full time job and a family I don't have the time to practice like I used to or play in a band. Maybe when the kids are a little older.
Point is, in two months most anybody willing to put the time to it CAN be playing Randy's music, Vaughn's music, and maybe even Dimebag's music, though it might take a little more time to build up that speed and accuracy for most. -
