Overblown
On Tuesday, Chicago Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist, one of the most vocal supporters of turning over baseball rulings to software, used an argument with the umpire as a chance to advocate for a change in the league.
Or he was just letting off some frustration and saying the ump sucked. Unless you are also going to argue that this guy thinks umps should be replaced by trash cans.

Re:Hey Dems: Don't run Hillary again...
Yeah, and the baseball team used Apple Watches to steal signs from the opposition:

But wait, maybe they were using some 400 pound hacker sitting on his bed in his parent's basement. It could be. We don't know. -
Awww, I feel bad
The tablets failed to work during a crucial AFC Championship game last January -- again for the New England Patriots...
Aww, that's so awful for the Patriots. While the tablets may be to blame, it's hard for me to feel too bad for a team with a history of "communication issues" for visiting teams.
My
.02, get rid of tablets, photos, phone calls, headphones, and anything else other than the coaches and players on the playing field and sideline talking to each other in person. They can all carry around clipboards that have Microsoft Surface, Apple iPad, or whatever other brand sticker on the back if the advertising money is that important. -
Re:This is why we can't have nice things
For example, the NFL (with regard to the Washington Redskins) is on record for saying "if one person objects, we will take action".
Actually, the record says “I think what we have to do though is we have to listen,” Goodell said. “If one person is offended, we have to listen.” so you are in error there. Or perhaps you have some actual source to go with your alleged record?
Then again, that should be obvious from the fact that the name of the team has not changed.
But let me ask you this, why shouldn't people have a say, why shouldn't they object, and why shouldn't they fight for what they want, with the tools available to them, when they are in fact, genuinely offended?
Or do you just not care, you have a highway to pave, and to hell with anybody who gets in your way?
What is your real attitude, behind your own sanctimony?

Re:The market for this
And seriously, they carted him to the ER? It was within golf cart distance? Or was that just an inappropriate choice of words? Maybe the problem isn't limited to the golf crowd at your job...
It's a known turn of phrase at least in American English. 'Hauled off' would have also worked, 'carted off' tends to imply an ambulance to me. IE he was treated as cargo. Then again - being carried off a sporting field after injury seems appropriate:

http://profootballtalk.nbcspor...
http://www.cincinnati.com/stor...
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08...There's a fairly good chance that he was indeed carted off, at least initially - by another golf cart.

What demonstratable difference happened?
Yes, I know that Tom Brady had made a comment that he "likes" deflated balls but I think this was more of a reflection of how his receivers had spiked the ball in celebration following a touchdown pass as opposed to a true preference for deflated balls.
But really what proof has been actually offered that the deflated balls were an actual advantage? A lot of people talk vaguely about "better grip" or "the balls travel differently in the air", but where is the proof of such performance difference?
Before you condemn me as a Patriots fan: heck, I don't even follow football (long ago I was a hometown LA Rams fan just to let you know where -I- am coming from). I know of this story only because it got widespread coverage outside of sports reporting.

Re:I wish McCain would retire
"That means by 2016, each NFL team will bring in at least $181 million from national TV alone — more than enough by itself for teams to cover their salary cap expenses."
You didn't think it through, did you?
By 2016, when the NFL TV revenue is expected to hit $180 million, the salary cap is expected to hit $160 million.
http://profootballtalk.nbcspor...
We have head coaches making $8 million by themselves (doesn't count against the cap). There are assistant coaches making $1.5 million. With the average team carrying 18 assistant coaches, you see how close the TV revenue and the team payroll really are.
http://a.espncdn.com/nfl/colum...
http://www.answers.com/Q/How_m...
As I said, the TV revenue almost exactly equals payroll for the players, coaches, trainers, etc, maybe some equipment and other expenses.
It's the stadium revenue and merchandising revenue that represents the teams' profits. That is how they differentiate themselves from other teams in terms of profits.

Re:Haha, nobody will do this.
You can shit out infinite iterations when you have exclusive locks on sports leagues (re: Madden).
War-themed first-person shooters, however, are a different story.

Re:at some point...
Most football programs lose money. The schools you are talking about are extreme outliers.
Even in schools where the football programs make money the athletics programs normally lose money.

Complete the Course and Still Lose
Your critique of the show turning winning contestants into losers is dead on. Kamerion Wimbley took and completed the preliminary course. Watching a man of his size complete the course was amazing to see. Then we got to see him get knocked out due to other contestants coming in with faster times. And then watched an added insult in the finals when they bring in 'wild card' contestants--many of whom did not even complete the preliminary course. And of course all the wildcards were turned into 'human interest' stories. Thankfully the grandfather wildcard actually did complete the course.
My biggest issue with the show was that they end up giving only summaries of the runs to half of the contestants--even after having 2/3rds of the contestants competing on the G4 show. The original show packed the same amount of content into 30 minutes that NBC is trying to stretch to 2 hours. -
Re:We knew this...
Dude, poes law. My friend sent me a rather tongue in cheek paper he wrote for a class, something to do with logging, he was saying that the forests were part of America and should be pulling their own weight and making a profit. I told him it was a little over the top, but then the next day i read this...

Re:Titanic
That's one of the biggest problems. 3D conversions just don't work. There is genuine innovation going on in 3D, it's just for the most part not being done by Hollywood. An outfit has been working on televising football games in 3D for a while now. That's innovative and damn hard to do, it's really the aspect that needs the most work, and without which 3D TV won't be a particularly reasonable prospect. Pats-Giants preseason game will be broadcast in 3D
I'm not sure how that ultimately turned out, I didn't watch, but it really indicates that at least somebody with money recognizes the actual problem. Any advances in the technology to display 3D aren't going to be particularly useful if nobody is working on this sort of instant 3D production.

NFL. 5 games instead of 6. Not yet clear to me that he was fired over it...

Re:Why didn't this happen sooner?
The player in question is Donte Stallworth. For what it is worth, there were also trace amounts of weed in his system. For complete coverage of the situation check this link.
http://blogs.nbcsports.com/system/mt-search.cgi?search=stallworth&IncludeBlogs=14&limit=20
It is quite likely that he will be suspended indefinitely by the commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell.
At any rate, I know sports isn't the flavour of the week, month, year here however, if you are is interested in the NFL then I would suggest the following site.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/
It is run by a lawyer by the name of Mike Florio.
Cheers

SafariBlock
I think the Web Developer Extension is one of the few things that keep me coming back to FireFox. It also doesn't crash like Safari does when closing windows after watching Poker After Dark episodes.
Regarding AdBlock, tho: SafariBlock is pretty close.
