Re:The worst of both worlds
Why would I every want to buy one of these when I can get an iPod Nano and a cell phone separately and get more bang for the buck?
That's a good question. A really good compromise is the Nano-RAZR. It gives you more bang for your buck, plus it sounds more appealing than the Al-ROKR. -
Re:Foonet
Shortly after the Foonet incident discussed in the parent's link, I visited the address believed to be the Foonet datacenter (5407 Taylor Lane Ave, Hilliard, OH 43026) and took a few pictures. So check out the possible datacenter. The yard had been mowed recently, and the car in the driveway was for sale, but it didn't look like anyone was living there at the time.

No subscription to Science mag online? No prob...For those of you without a subscription to Science magazine online, here's an amusing solution - Coral Cache, since NYU has basically a subscription to all academic publications

Information Control=Entire point
We've been working on the Katrina missing persons wiki, PeopleFinder and this has allowed us to see some emails from people right in the red zone. There are some people from religious organizations looking to help those kept in the donated church cabin complexes, and seeing that its a goddamn FEMA detainee camp. These people are going to be treated like cattle, like people were in WW2, in Korea, in Vietnam.... My guess is we will not see many of them ever again, if any. For one person's experience, you can go here:
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/fema.html
Coral Cache: http://www.abovetopsecret.com.nyud.net:8090/forum
/ fema.htmlSo, it comes as no surprise to me whatsoever that they are trying to keep all communications locked down. Nevermind the fack that FEMA=[pig-fucker]Cheney.

Re:Auto update!
(And if you don't trust me, think about how many web browsers have a brushed metal GUI like that)
Uhm... Firefox? (http://lillesvin.net.nyud.net:8090/stuff/Firefox
B rushed.png) Yeah, I know that it's not entirely the same and I know how Safari looks - I just wanted to point out that brushed metal isn't Apple-only. -

It's working fine, even if a bit slow. Their MySQL database was throwing out errors a little bit earlier, but it now appears to be working fine.

Mod Parent Up
There is no reason to make a statement like "they're going to kill me for the bandwidth this uses" when we have resources like the Coral cache. If you're linking to something you fear will use a lot of bandwidth if it becomes popular, Coralize it.
Normal URL: http://example.com/big.jpg
Coralized: http://example.com.nyud.net:8090/big.jpg
Parent is 100% correct in linking to a Coralized version of the image. -

Re:Absolutely dead link
Sorry, sorry, sorry, my fault, wrong link.
Maybe the coral [com.nyud.nu] could help. This is the correct one. But it doesn't work, either. Maybe the Mirrordot one's...

Re:Contact paypal - all of /.
Well, I went one better and cancelled my account. The comments are as follows.
I'd always heard bad stories about Paypal. I wasn't sure what to think. Now I know for sure. I don't mean to insult anyone who works at Paypal personally - individually you may be great people. As a company you are the fucking lowliest excuse for an organisation on the planet. For more information on what confirmed my stance please see http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/05/09/04/050220.shtml? tid=99&tid=17 and http://www.somethingawful.com.nyud.net:8090/.
I look forward to doing business with whatever company eventually overthrows you. -

Here's a Coral Cache link: Something Awful Paypal fiasco
I think this might be a good idea since Something Awful was hosted in New Orleans and their main servers are obviously not online at the moment, so that temporary site is probably going to be blown away soon. -

Here's the Coral Cache link:

Should start working after a while... Coral should cache the pics as well, as Mirrordot is useless in this regard (picks behind links)... -

Re:Trademark infringement?
On http://www.getfoxie.com.nyud.net:8090/contact/ (actual site is
/.ed):
"If you're interested in contributing money to support the Mozilla Project, there are many ways to donate."
Which does NOT link to a donation page for the Mozilla Project. Maybe a mistake when copying and pasting from the Firefox site? This smells like a scam. Has anyone actually tested this thing, and made sure it isn't full of spyware or any other crap? -
