This letter is regarding the current status of the license to practice law currently granted to Jack Thompson through the Florida Bar Association.

Jack Thompson is a very controversial lawyer, more often than not resorting to political matters to solve his own personal disputes rather than through the legal system. However, in recent months, it has become clear to me that Thompson is not merely a controversial individual, but is also a very corrupt, callous, and often rude individual who, in my own estimation, does not exemplify the ethical and moral principles for which a lawyer should hold, and I believe that the Florida Bar Association, in holding with the claim that "One of the primary purposes of The Florida Bar is to assure the highest standards of professionalism in the practice of law for the benefit of members and the public.", must organize a referendum to determine if Jack Thompson should be able to continue practicing law as a licensed attorney. Evidence for this need is widespread and incriminating. Examples of this unprofessional and unethical behavior are detailed below, and I urge those who this concerns to properly review these actions by this callous individual carefully.

Recently, he has engaged in a very callous, unprovoked and irresponsible tirade with the creator of the popular VGCats online web comic (http://www.vgcats.com/ and evidence of this encounter is available here: http://www.vgcats.com/jack.php. During this exchange, Jack Thompson made a number of references questioning Scott Ramsoomair's sexuality, intelligence, and his use of psychotropic drugs, all of which are unsubstantiated and irrelevant to the discourse (which Mr. Thompson initiated), and then proceeded to threaten legal action in an irresponsible manner.

During this discourse, after initiating contact with Mr. Ramsoomair and proceeding to insult him, he then claimed that he had not initiated contact, despite the fact that it is verifiable that Mr. Thompson did initiate contact.

This kind of conversational process is not uncommon with Mr. Thompson, and a simple search can uncover literally dozens of people and organizations who have had incredibly negative and often dishonest discourse with Mr. Thompson, commonly initiated by Mr. Thompson himself.

Furthermore, Mr. Thompson has made claims that the creators of the extremely popular online webcomic Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/ Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, were "criminally harassing" him. Just like every sane person who's heard what Jack has to say, I'm glad this is happening to him and I think he deserves to be, at the very least, disbarred. However, I think that Gabe put it best on the PA website. To paraphrase, Jack is only playing a part that somebody always plays. We're lucky that the person trying to ban the "awful new evil corrupting our children" is an insane, ranting, name-calling lunatic. If he were articulate, intelligent, and capable of arguing his case with solid logic, we would be in trouble. Without him, there is a vacancy in that position, and it's entirely possible that the vacancy will be filled by someone with a brain this time. I contacted the FBA requesting an update, and was told that they have been so overwhelmingly innundated with complaints, that they are having an emergency meeting to decide what kind of action to take.

With so many people dying of cancer, aids, or other diseases that desperately need funding to find cures Why would he even joke about that? With so many people, reeling from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina... How tactless is that? With so many women and children homeless and fighting for their lives everyday... How could he promise and then not deliver.

There are about 10,000 charities who could have desperately used that money. And GAMERS were kind enough to take him up on his very public, very serious offer so that a lucky charity will have more funding. They put time into it to meet his specifications and now he is backpedalling faster than a politician.

What kind of sick, twisted LUNATIC raises the hopes of people who need that money? Honestly... He needs Bush's publicity and speech writers. Cuz then he wouldnt have made that mistake. He hurt his cause more than he ever helped it by doing this.

He has been interviewed numerous times on CBS, including one famous instance in which he compared Doug Lowesnstein of the ESA to Joseph Goebbels.

And the 10k donation (in JT's name) is going through the ESA - icing on the cake.

They stepped in to assume his role and donated it in the exact direction a game developer would (as outlined in his rules). Seriously genius!

Going after a company known for providing charitable contributions and trying to get the owners arrested isn't exactly the smartest thing to do. This guy should pick his battles better.

If the Seattle news media are reading this, I have a great headline for you:

No matter what would happen to PA because of him calling the cops on them, his reputation with the mass media would definitely go further down the tubes!

Worse yet are the ones that claim every event "impacts" something. Unless it's a train wreck, a comet hitting earth, or my fist vs. their nose, nothing was impacted. Maybe something had an impact on something else (meaning it affected it), but nothing was impacted. Except maybe a tooth. Those can get impacted. Worse yet is when they make up words like "impactful" or "stuponfucious."

It's pretty amazing, isn't it? I read that PA had donated the $10k just before....

It is backed by gamers, but isn't pushing videogames (any more than other toys) upon children. Jack noted that Gabe's phone number was in his email, and took it upon himself to call Gabe and personally chew him out and threaten Gabe.

This vile "challenge" Jack Thompson has put to the supposedly monolithic "game industry" is like a topographical map of the twisted fantasy realm he inhabits. I could excerpt it, but I don't want to be accused of selective editing. The reality is that what he suggests is grotesque. I mean that it is literally disgusting. Of course, the violent acts he's cobbled together here from other games are robbed of a narrative context in which they make sense. Killing Gamestop and EB employees, though? That's not metaphor. He's not being metaphorical. He is batshit fucking loco insane.

I clicked back from Gabe's VGCats link (with a posting of Jack's contact info) to find Tycho had just put up a post saying they donated 10k to the Entertainment Software Foundation in Jack Thompson's name.

It makes me think, though. Are female gamers like female golfers, highly lesbian? Normal women just don't act like this too often.(Compare Sailer's chart in Why Lesbians aren't Gay [Men].)

To add more worthless anecdotally supported stereotypes, I have to mention that maybe 1/3rd of the time that I come across a female CS wonk on the web or on Slashdot, that person is actually transgender. (Read through the journal here for my latest find.) I read an interesting book by Bailey a while back, in which he postulates two main categories of transgendered male-to-female individuals. The first tend to be very effeminate gay males who get the surgery done early and are much more successful with it than the second group. The second group tend to get the surgery done later, are often heterosexual and married beforehand, often have stereotypically male careers (like CS), are very bad at "walking like a woman," etc., and are lesbians or asexual afterward. There is also one unifying factor present in 100% of this second group: they like to wear female clothing and masturbate. Bailey calls them autogynephiles.

I wouldn't mention it, but they pop up again and again in news stories covering female CS advocacy (Lynn Conway is a notorious offender), or in lists of famous CS women. Maybe there is no connection to gaming, but then again...

Bloody freaking hell. I think I just lost 20 IQ points for finding out about that idiocy. The Theory continues to gather instances where it is proven correct.
