PRESS PLAY ON TAPE anyone?

Press Play On Tape
Press Play On Tape is a 6-person rock-ish band that performs live versions of Commodore 64 songs. They're Danish, but have performed several times in the UK and Norway.
There's a version of Cannon Fodder performed on game controllers here, and a boy-band cover of Comic Bakery here. -
Re:It COULD have been worse...
Several bands ( http://www.pressplayontape.com/ (C64 Rock), http://www.minibosses/, http://www.neskimos.com/) play live in front of large audiences some of which are your regular concert crowd. And they seem to enjoy it very much (the bands too
:)
If you think the music of the Commodore 64 was lame you haven't heard it. Some of its tunes are fantastic masterpieces. Get a couple of interpretations at http://remix.kwed.org/ and have a listen! Few of the renditions are utter crap while most of them are really well (select those rated best). -

NES inspired music
There are quite a few people nowadays, who have grown up with NES systems in their time, keeping the music alive in various forms. For instance:

Re:Hogwash. It's all in the ear of the beholder...
;) The old games were/are better if somebody thinks so. I still think Thing on a Spring being 20 years old has better music than Doom3's mood setting sound. That doesn't make it the best game music, though :)
Forgive me for not reading the entire thread, but I just wanted to comment some of the above. I play in the Commodore 64 revival band "PRESS PLAY ON TAPE" and we have received tons of feedback going like "That is exactly how I heard the music back then" even from the original compsers like Rob Hubbard which we even have played with on stage (so far the only band he has performed with :) We play the music as rock music btw and not techno music as many believe it to be. Anyhow, my point is that one thing might be the actual soundwave that hits your eardrum, another thing is what your mind interprets it as. Are you hearing sawtooth or strings, sines or organs? Are you hearing large drums or canons in baroque music, FM synthesis or strings in modern dance music? If you (still) can make that abstraction and not be idiosyncratic about the crude sounds you are in for a treat listening to the old games' music, because it is bloody good!

Re:The SID chip has even been used in a synthesize
Yes, there are quite a few artists who do homage to the
beloved SID. Ignoring people who remake SID tunes on other
instruments such as Mahoney mahoney.c64.org or the
Press Play on Tape pressplayontape.com
(go to both websites now, if you want to hear GOOD music, also get
the PPOT Boy Band Music Video), there are also arists that are
signed with big labels that create their music with SID.
One of the more recent artists is Bastian who uses SID for the
base, often lead, and sound effects. Not the frindge of the music
spectrum when comparing to Aphex Twin, but still, quite fresh and
unique (highly recommended song 'you got my love')
arist website: bastianmusic.nl)
There are rumors wether many of the euro techno bands dont use
SID chips to enhance their music. Orbital is one of the most
known of bands that I heard about.
Afterall, SID chip has been voted into top 20 chips produced for
computers, alongside such marvels as z80, sparc, and intel cpus.

/apz, SID chip was developed in 1981 and is still produced -
Re:when I code...
If you like Hubbard you might like C64 tunes - and PRESS PLAY ON TAPE, a C64 revival band.

Commodore Music Store?
Nifty. But as long as they don't have the best of Ron Hubbard or these guys, then I really don't see the point.

Re:Cher is the best example
AC:
No, that's a vocoder. She was actually going for that effect (god only knows)
Hmm. I heard "Believe" had autotuner instead of vocoder. The most recent boy band song I heard apparently used autotuner, and it sounds just like Cher's effect. =)
The web page also says the two things are similar, and lists all sorts of other things done to the song to make it sound as boybandish as possible. =)

Re:And I have found
It has be emulated in a boyband though: PRESS PLAY ON TAPE.
Check out their new CD too :) -
PRESS PLAY ON TAPE will be playing

The C64 Cover band (imagine that!) PRESS PLAY ON TAPE does rock-ish interpretations of C64 music. They have several mp3's available for download from their site.

Back In Time Live
How come this gets a news item and BIT Livedidn't? This sounds very weedy in comparison.
BITLive 4 was an amazing event. Nearly 300 people at the night concert, I believe. Commodore64 music legend Rob Hubbard played some of his classics on the piano, SID80's was quickly formed consisting of more legends (Monty On The Run live with real violin!), and Press Play On Tape put on a great show.
It was a truly outstanding evening, and I can't wait for the next one.

Danish C64 band
There's a danish band called Press Play On Tape that makes music based on old C64 games. The music's very good.
You should especially check out their "Game Boy Band Video" (downloadable from the band's website) - it's hilarious! -

C64 Music on real instruments
Check out PRESS PLAY ON TAPE. They've released a CD with various C64 covers (Commando, Ghosts'n Goblins, Monty on the Run, etc.), and have a version of Out Run available for download at remix.kwed.org.
This isn't a series of techno-rave-remixes - this is rock music! -
