Postal really started this genre many years ago and created a stir. This is just the next target from crazy parent groups and surely not the last. If they would spend as much time with their kids, maybe they wouldn't be so messed up!

When you look at the value you're getting, $50 or so for a game is reasonable. Many games will give you months of entertainment. The cost per hour is extremely low when compared to renting a movie or going to the theater. Just my two cents.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. MS wants Vista to be out before any major patch to XP. Its in their best interest as it compels more people to upgrade to Vista. XP will be treated like a red-headed step child so Vista will look more appealing. So long as they issue security patches I'll be happy. It's what I've come to expect.

I always love to hear about stuff like this. However, good luck finding enough content worth recording. I have a PVR with 1 tuner and I struggle for stuff to record. Most of TV is crap except for Battlestar Galactica of course and Family Guy :)

This story was posted yesterday and it infuriated me. These telcos are trying to extort more money from providers and us. Big players like Google/MS/AOL/etc need to come out and bring this issue to the forefront so it can be obliterated. Or Google can just by these companies :)

AMD just proves that regardless of your advertising budget, it all comes down to good performance and good price. I don't think I have ever seen an AMD commercial, whereas Intel was all over the TV. Dell has finally taken notice and will start widespread use of AMD chips soon. Thanks for the giving Intel some competition AMD!

I've noticed a trend in medical devices that clinics are marketing now for "peace of mind". There are scans for your heart, lungs, and now your skin. While I find the devices neat, they really don't fix anything. They seem just like another way for clinics to seperate money from you.

Having checked my website over the last few months, I was surprised at the statistics. Firefox has 56.15%, IE 17.48%, Mozilla 7.35% and the rest was Safari, Opera and even a few Netscape users! FF has done an incredible job thus far and I hope they continue to produce a great product. What has browser usage been like on your site?

Is it any surprise that the issue hasn't gone away? Look at the two major supporters for software patents...Microsoft and Sun. They are just using their power and influence to dictate policies that favor them. What I found amusing is this... "The bill had been supported by the European pro-patent lobby, which included corporations such as Microsoft and Sun, who claimed that the directive would encourage investment in research and development in Europe." Sure it would encourage investment....from large companies like MS and Sun. They of course will reap most of the benefits aswell. Software patents are a bad idea and stifle creativity.

I for one would love to see Google get into the tv advertising realm. Imagine having no commercials and just seeing a text ad in the lower right portion of your show. That would make legal issues for PVRs disappear overnight and consumers would be happy. Also, if anyone here rememebers the 'I'nteractive on DirecTv that would allow a consumer to press a button on the remote to get more information for a product. It would be like clicking on a google ad from a tv show :)

If you look at the settlement in the New York District court it is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Sony knowingly infected computers with what amounts to a trojan horse. In return they have to pay a little money and promise not to do it again. That's insane when you consider the witch hunts that have taken place for 16 year-old kids releasing a virus. Sony needs to pay and pay dearly for their deliberate criminal actions. The government always wants to send hackers a strong message...well then the same applies to corporations!

Mankind has always and will always explore. That's how people spread across the globe. People braved massive oceans and inhospitable conditions just to see what lies ahead. It's who we are. None of the early explorers new if it would be worthwhile or profitable, but they did it anyways.

With that said, humans have scoured this planet pretty well (except the oceans) and space seems like the natural next step. Do we know if it will be worth it? Of course not, but there are never any guarantees.

DRM is what the industry is using to avoid the real issue at hand. The real issue is that movie and music industry have become too greedy and see the consumer as a revenue source and not a customer. They have come to expect a certain amount of money without adapting to a changing marketplace. People expect movies and music to be of high quality and freely transferable to other devices like iPods. The industry won't except that because their business model has worked for decades without problems. With the growing digital media revolution, they have found it difficult to adapt, so out of fear and ignorance they have chosen draconian DRM measures to safeguard their empire instead of pleasing the paying consumer. While it may work in the short term, it is destined to fail in the long wrong because the consumer's dollar has the final say... I hope.

They are not creating cold fusion, nor feeding the hungry. They index lots of stuff and release free cool software. That's all! I'm not saying there aren't big plans in the future, but for now it's just cool stuff. If you look at Microsoft and the Gates Foundation, they have done more to help the world by investing billions into 3rd world nations and convincing others to do the same. They are making the world a better place for many.

I think it's in Apples best interest to allow Windows on their hardware for two reasons. 1st, people who are apprehensive about switching to Mac could do so slowly with a dual boot setup. 2nd, Apple could sell more hardware this way as it would appeal to Windows users.

If you look at the data, you will notice that some critical flaws were patched in less than 3-4 weeks. While that may seem long, it is somewhat reasonable due to the amount of verification/validation necessary. People forget that 95% of the world runs on M$ so they have to really test a patch before releasing it.

On the other hand... because so much of the world depends on M$, they have an obligation to its customers to provide a secure OS and timely patches. Personally, I feel they are doing an "ok" job and seem to be getting better. Alot of vulnerabilities can be avoided just by running your PC behind a router and/or by using a firewall application. Personally, I have NEVER had a virus at home on any of my computers because I take simple preventative measures like running Norton AV and AdAware. I also put all my pcs behind a router.

Microsoft is looking at this issue like any other. Sure they may back one or the other but it's not that big of a deal. No matter what format they decide to "support", it's just a driver. If they go with HD-DVD, that means they'll just include that driver on the OS. Who cares?!?! If you buy a Blu-Ray drive, it'll ship with a driver anyways.

The real concern here is what the movie industry will support and put movies on. And of course DRM is the other big issue. But no matter who the "winner" is, it won't matter for the PC anyways as it will support both.

6 out of 10 shows on the list are cable/satellite only and of those, 2 are on pay channels only. Can the big networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC compete anymore? It seems like the talent has moved elsewhere and the big three are caving in under their own weight.

With AMD, continuously beating Intel in both price and performance, it just pisses me off to see them exclusively sell Intel processors. Even in their highend gaming rigs, they use the Extreme Edition with no option of getting an AMD processor. That's just pathetic. Think of how cheap their boxes could be if they didn't force you top buy Intel and Windows.

Christianity isn't some warm, fuzzy religion. It's a religion that believes that all nonbelievers are going to be sent into a fiery pit forever ("where their worm shall not die", a place filled with the sounds of "gnashing of teeth"). It's also a religion based on the ridiculous Old Testament (Full disclosure: I am of Jewish stock, so this includes my birth faith too) which, in addition to condemning homosexuality and ordering the murder of anyone found having gay sex, condones slavery. You're allowed to sell your own daughter as a 'female slave' (read: 'sex slave'). In fact, you can even literally beat your slaves to death, so long as they persist (in suffering) for at least a day or so after the beating before expiring.

All of this is (or "was"*) supposedly written directly under the influence of Yahweh. Put plainly, if God exists, he is a TOTAL ASSHOLE, and not worth worshipping in the slightest. Don't believe me? Actually read your Bible. Including the parts you'd rather ignore, like all the "if a person [does X], they shalt be stoned to death" garbage in Leviticus.

Whether or not you believe it still applies, it's supposedly still part of the "holy", "God-inspired", "infallible" Bible.

I also find it quite amusing that you accuse me of following "dogma". I'm not the one hewing to a belief, against all evidence, that an invisible man lives in the sky and that he wrote a big book 2,000 years ago.

The big recording labels had developed software to determine the quality of song. Apparently, they could determine if a song would be a megahit or a flop. Judging from what I've heard on the radio, it doesn't seem to work. Hopefully the movie industry will have better success.

Currently, Google has included Firefox in their Adsense referral program. Google is paying $1/click to convert users to Firefox. Why on Earth would they invest millions in that only to buy a competitor? Something stinks here.

Having every aspect of my life recorded just scares the hell out of me. We have countried collecting Internet and phone usage. Many cities are putting cameras up to monitor your travel. All your purchases made via credit card are recorded. At work, your company probably monitors your email. Even companies like Tivo monitor your tv viewing habits. What else is left?? Governments/corporations will know damn near everything about you and what you do. I say to hell with this... I'm buying an island in the Pacific and starting my own country.
