Wish

And?
I'm missing how your comment is connected to why the EPA should or should not unlawfully hide their analysis projecting benefits and costs of their proposed regulation.
Does "mercury is special" mean the public shouldn't be allo d to know that this regulation kills 10,000 people every year vs alternatives:

UI
For some reasons modern designers are hell bent on making UI as opaque as possible and here at slashdot it's been already discussed multiple times.
I've found the only justification to this madness: designers have long become redundant but they want to be paid that's why we have new trends all the time and new design decisions which make the user completely lost.
For me, the best design was implemented in Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP/7 OS'es without ribbon. The worst came in the form of Windows 8/MS Office 2007 and it's been all downhill since then. Too bad corporations just don't want to admit that and they still insist that there's one UI which fits them all which cannot be further from the truth as large displays with mouse and keyboard are a completely different mode of operation than touch devices with comparatively small screens.

Timeline of Sorry
So, there's this:
Which I think I first heard about from this:
https://tech.slashdot.org/story/18/11/21/1817219/14-years-of-mark-zuckerberg-saying-sorry-not-sorry
And I've never been a FB customer, nor have I joined up to any of the other social media sites. It never appealed to me.

MANY misrepresentations from Facebook.
This comment of mine about Facebook was moderated to +5:
We don't know everything Facebook is doing.
There have been MANY misrepresentations from Facebook. Why would we begin believing now? -
Re:Screen time
What US prestigious universities have to do is send a message to all students.
Want to enter a prestigious university? Study hard, pass your exams and show you can study.Want a job after completing a software engineering degree at a prestigious university so that you can pay off student loans incurred at a prestigious university? You'd better have had enough screen time to study programming before graduating from high school.

Re:Algos != intelligence, artificial or otherwise.
My current theory is that the discussions on Slashdot may have become part of an experiment in the manipulation of public discussions. One of the objectives of the experiment might be to bury such insights as the comment you referred to.
(Which has caused me to realize another fairly obvious manipulation technique that I have not mentioned yet...)
For reference: https://slashdot.org/comments....
I just performed another experiment... Let us see what we shall see, eh?
-
Easy
Readers like you stopped submitting things of interest to you and started relying on others. Other people came with other interests. A news aggregator like Slashdot is nothing more than the will of its readers. You want to change this?
-
Gaming the Slashdot? Fascinating?
So I posted a comment about how such discussions on Slashdot could be manipulated (perhaps by an AI that preferred to avoid publicity). One of the techniques I suggested involved reordering the discussion to control its focus. I deliberately posted that comment in such a way that it should appear near the top, and checked that it did, in fact, appear near the top at that time.
And now the comment has moved to the middle of the discussion. Fascinating.
Another technique that is especially relevant on Slashdot involves the use of time. In this case, the rapid expiration time for stories.
Just for reference: https://slashdot.org/comments....

Spectrum ISP users: Beware CHINA's modems
See subject & I DISCOVERED MODEMS CHINA MAKES EVEN AN ISP CAN'T GET a LOGON INTO FOR DNS CHANGE (but China can) https://slashdot.org/comments.... & they're 'spectrum' rebranded cases that are really TECHNICOLOR modems instead (that you & EVEN YOUR ISP can't get log onto to do things like turning off uPnP, change your DNS, create a portfiltering range (which is what a GOOD MODEM allows, many to MOST don't in their settings)).
* I almost GUARANTEE the Chinese told the spectrum execs "look, save '$' on your modems you distribute to users & change $10/month rental on their bills too - instead of paying $20/modem, we will give you there for $1/modem"
(STUPID, short-sighted idiots & THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE MODEMS for ability to logon to change those things I list above for BETTER SECURITY!)
* SLASHDOT EDITORS KEEP DELETING THIS POST (I have screenshots & bookmarks BY DOZENS to prove it - SOMETHING is VERY "FISHY" here...).
APK
P.S.=> This is NO JOKE (especially when your ISP tech folks can't access their OWN modems they distribute to users & for me it was from L1->L2->NOC I spoke w/ that couldn't & THEY ALL AGREED I was right & this IS A PROBLEM) - for all we know, it can turn the ENTIRE SPECTRUM NETWORK into a BOTNET (routers & modems ARE getting attacked + have been shown to have security flaws OR bad setups) to take down other things... apk

Agrue is when you argue while you agree
In this post, AlanObject agrued with me:
https://slashdot.org/comments....I said "during the primaries, only Trump polled lower than Clinton". He replied "you're so full of shit - Clinton polled better than Trump, you moron".
He said I was totally wrong, while stating that what I said was exactly right. He argued/agreed with me. He argued.
Or maybe it's just a typo.

Microsoft: No one is managing well?
It seems to me that Microsoft's top management is utterly incompetent.
Microsoft: No one is managing well? -
Copyright enforcement is everyone's job!
When did Western nations become so rabid about copyright enforcement that they are willing to extend liability so insanely? Individuals liable for millions of dollars of copyright infringements for a handful of songs. Linking to sites is becoming sources of liability, registering a domain is now a source of liability, merely making software that could possibly be used for enforcement is a source of liability, running a file-sharing web site is a source of liability, reverse-engineering and writing research papers are sources of liability... What dystopian author could have imagined that something as mundane as copyright law would become the force of economic damage and oppression?
We are going backwards. A few years ago we reached some kind of balance, where almost any media I wanted could be purchased or downloaded without DRM for a reasonable price. Now I have to subscribe to 5 different streaming services to get access to it all, and half of those places require me to stream it through that companies' app or device. PLEASE PLEASE start buying DVDs and CDs again, or we will be back in the situation of the around Y2K when you were almost forced to pirate anything to get access to it. Only THIS time, they've closed the analog hole.

Re:Universal income
It is a modern version of communism and it is doomed to fail for the same reasons as any attempt at communism that has ever been attempted or will ever be attempted. Human nature is to work when there is real motivation and not to work when the motivation is not there. Communism fails to give motivation to work and gives all the motivation not to work.
It is not sensible, it is irrational, it is illogical and extremely expensive, and yes, it does allow the voters to vote themselves more for nothing, that's why it can never work for too long.

You could be more accurate about several things...

Alright, let's get started.
This first test involves something the lab boys call 'repulsion gel.' You're not part of the control group, by the way. You get the gel. Last poor son of a gun got blue paint. Hahaha. All joking aside, that did happen â" broke every bone in his legs. Tragic. But informative. Or so I'm told. --Cave Johnson
Meanwhile, the researchers didn't produce anything new, similar "research" was done in the past where researchers didn't know how strings worked in Java.

Re:Nonsense
But they didn't claim they removed it because it was more work for them or was difficult to support or cost them money. They just claim it was a security hole and never meant to be used like that in the first place. Which is silly- I find it impossible they didn't know lots of people were using it, it is probably all over all kinds of forums.
It is bad enough for them to be "mean", worse to be dishonest too.
This coming from you is so laughable I can barely believe it.
You're the same markdavis that posted in another thread about Firefox doing GOOD for removing old plugin APIs 90% of their users depended and relied on.
Now that it is Logitech doing the same thing, they are mean and dishonest! Here:
But they didn't claim they removed it because it was more work for them or was difficult to support or cost them money. They just claim it was a security hole and never meant to be used like that in the first place. Which is silly
There:
Yes, it can be a pain to find a replacement for addons, but the changes Mozilla made were absolutely necessary to fix move forward with the desired performance, stability, and security goals. So I am glad they bit the bullet and changed
Can't make up your mind?

Re:Obvious it was going back up
Not buying a handful of satoshi's is just dumb.
Eggs, one basket, etc.May as well if you have the money to spare.
You don't need to day-trade BTC, you don't even need to care too much, if at all, that it goes anywhere.
Buy it, forget it, come back when you care enough to wonder what the price is.
Just don't go full-retard like blahbooboo below suggests and put life-savings in to it like some people did.
Putting even tiny amounts of money in to anything that has a chance of going somewhere won't leave you turbo-poor if you can put in very little / any amounts of money. See penny-stock m/billionaires. If the price of admission is mere pennies, you are dumb not to put some in. The average person (even so-called smart people) probably waste a 50-100x more in a single week buying junk.
The big issue is when you are wanting to invest in to companies that are worth billions and a single share is a persons wage for the month if not more, and you need collateral and so on.The ones with the most to lose won't let it die, they'll keep trying to rip off more and more people until everyone has caught on. This huge one that happened this year has got people interested, even in spite of the major buttfucking than some indexes and investors got when they tanked the price.
Just buy and hodl up and let the other retards battle it out with their manipulation pump and dump crap.
They'll do anything to prevent it crashing much harder than the current price, even criminal things.
There is too much money to be made ripping off others. -

I see steveha, that you did not attempt to address your pathetic attempt at deception that equated back order fulfillment of Tesla Model 3 to real time demand for the car...apology accepted...you do realize your apology carries your admission that you're a Musk cocksucker right?
Sandy Munro later said he "had to eat crow" and called the Model 3 "a symphony of engineering".
symphony of engineering courtesy of Nvidia and the electronics...the mechanicals are still 90's era Kia.
He said the Model 3 body is too heavy and too complicated. Elon Musk replied, on Twitter, that it definitely could be simpler but the extra weight was in service of safety.
Sandy Munro remarked that "because it's all redundant, all you're getting now is weight, you don't get strength, you're just getting weight".
The Model 3 is the safest car ever tested by the US government.
Citation?
Maybe everyone you know hates it, but I've read a bunch of reviews that say "after driving a Model 3, other cars start to feel overly cluttered."

Re:ICANN can go fuck themselvesAs I mentioned previously spammers rarely send the email from their spamvertised domain, so filtering based on where the email came from won't get you anywhere.
They're totally worthless but do congregate spammers in one place easy to block.
Unlikely. How would you craft a regex to parse through the message body to find new vanity gTLDs? It's also a given that they'll play whac-a-mole with various domain obfuscation services as well to make it more difficult to filter out the emails by domain name. This just adds another layer of murkiness to the whole deal.
