Re:Technical Expertise of Tabloid Newspapers
In my opinion Daily Mail is nothing more than a troll of a newspaper that force feeds its readers exactly what they want to hear, or what they know will rile their readership in order to sell more rags to their core readership.
Radiohead felt strongly enough about this rag to write a song about it that nicely sums this up in haunting poetic terms . -
Yet "Pumped Up Kicks" hit number 3 on billboard

Re:So much for a fair trial.
174 comments and nobody's mentioned this, but what happened to the presumption of innocence?
After the bad guy killed off all the under-developed characters,
The good guy put a bullet through his head
The screenwriter stood up and told us all the loose ends had been tied up
Justice is irrelevant; violent problems need violent solutions
Cuz in America we like our bad guys dead -
Re:And the other half of the story...
Let's say that at a tax rate of 10%, sales are 110. Tax revenue then equals 11.
The tax goes up to 11%. Sales drop to 100. Tax revenue then equals
... 11 again. But if they only drop to 105, the government is quids in; it's taking in 11.55.
Alternatively if sales drop further, to 95, the the tax take will only be 10.45 - oh noes!!!
Now this is an important concept, so it needs a name. It's kind of like adding weights on a spring - and as any fule Kno some springs are stiffer and don't extend or compress much, and others are well stretchy. So we'll call this concept stretchiness.
- - -
The situation is further complicated, because it turns out that, according to Morrissey's law, some things are stretchier than others.
Common unstretchy goods are necessities and things that are addictive; you don't have the option, so you just pony up.
Others are quite stretchy. This happens when you can easily cut back, or do without it completely - for example, by switching to something else.
Now, with all these stretchy and unstretchy things around we need to find the overall level of stretchiness. And some of those things sell a lot, and others not so much. It's like kids on a see-saw - a fat kid has a lot more effect on the overall balance than a thin kid.
- - -
So we'll stick the two concepts together and call it The kids on a see-saw stretchines, mmmmkay?

Re:Absolutely SURREAL
Unfortunately, that describes the education system in most countries far too well.

Re:What about the slow workers
And if a bricklayer were 10x more productive than his peers this would be obvious too
And he'd end up getting shoved off the top of a building by the bricklayers that he made look bad.
Sounds like Indestructible Sam.
Miles around competition burned with the deepest rage
The work was hard and Sam did it for the cheapest wage
Seemed that the other man's shoes didn't fit him
When he was out working the others were out to get him -

"Exhaustion" Is Industrial DiseaseWhat exactly is "exhaustion"? Since the people dying from it while playing games are all in China, could they mean "exhaust", like their filthy air full of industrial and car exhaust? Doesn't that make the murder weapon Chinese air pollution, which is the government's responsiblity? Is the Chinese government executing hardcore gamers who play instead of work in the glorious Communist Capitalist paradise?
"Industrial Disease" by Dire Straits:Warning lights are flashing down at quality control
Somebody threw a spanner and they threw him in the hole
There's rumors in the loading bay and anger in the town
Somebody blew the whistle and the walls came down
There's a meeting in the boardroom they're trying to trace the smell
There's leaking in the washroom there's a sneak in personnel
Somewhere in the corridors someone was heard to sneeze
'goodness me could this be industrial disease?
The caretaker was crucified for sleeping at his post
They're refusing to be pacified it's him they blame the most
The watchdog's got rabies the foreman's got fleas
And everyone's concerned about industrial disease
There's panic on the switchboard tongues are ties in knots
Some come out in sympathy some come out in spots
Some blame the management some the employees
And everybody knows it's the industrial disease
The work force is disgusted downs tools and walks
Innocence is injured experience just talks
Everyone seeks damages and everyone agrees
That these are 'classic symptoms of a monetary squeeze'
On itv and bbc they talk about the curse
Philosophy is useless theology is worse
History boils over there's an economics freeze
Sociologists invent words that mean 'industrial disease'
Doctor parkinson declared 'I'm not surprised to see you here
You've got smokers cough from smoking, brewer's droop from drinking beer
I don't know how you came to get the betty davis knees
But worst of all young man you've got industrial disease'
He wrote me a prescription he said 'you are depressed
But I'm glad you came to see me to get this off your chest
Come back and see me later - next patient please
Send in another victim of industrial disease'
I go down to speaker's corner I'm thunderstruck
They got free speech, tourists, police in trucks
Two men say they're jesus one of them must be wrong
There's a protest singer singing a protest song - he says
'they wanna have a war to keep us on our knees
They wanna have a war to keep their factories
They wanna have a war to stop us buying japanese
They wanna have a war to stop industrial disease
They're pointing out the enemy to keep you deaf and blind
They wanna sap your energy incarcerate your mind
They give you rule brittania, gassy beer, page three
Two weeks in espana and sunday striptease'
Meanwhile the first jesus says 'I'd cure it soon
Abolish monday mornings and friday afternoons'
The other one's on a hunger strike he's dying by degrees
How come jesus gets industrial disease -

Re:Geeks without rules = too many pissing contests
Sorry, that just reminded me of this:
"If you're so funny
then why are you on your own tonight?
and if you're so clever
then why are you on your own tonight?
if you're so very entertaining
then why are you on your own tonight?
if you're so very good looking
why do you sleep alone tonight?
I know because tonight is just like any other night
that's why you're on your own tonight
with your triumphs and your charms
while they are in each other's arms"

Why Bite the Hand that Feeds?
How can Google create an online payment system without competing with PayPal? Google doesn't want to piss off eBay, because eBay is one of Google's largest advertisers -- so I completely understand why Google would say that they won't compete directly against PayPal -- I get it. Never bite the hand that feeds. (great NiN tune!)
But what I don't understand is the resulting system... what could it possibly consist of if it can't compete against PayPal? Perhaps they will use PayPal's services within the scope of the new system and defer customers to PayPal for the actual transactions? Partnerships happen when companies fear retaliation or when companies see greater profits by working together, and I think it's possible that is what's going on, in this case. Either that or we'll be seeing a very crippled new system from Google. -
Soundtrack
A modernized version of the Jefferson Airplane song "Go Ask Alice" needs to be on the soundtrack.

He's left now
But he did write a song about it, called 'Adelaide'. He now lives in Nashville.

This site has lyrics and lets people post comments on what they mean. I'm not sure about the popups since my browser kills them.

Re:Johnny Hit And Run Pauline...This took about a half hour of googling, but here are the lyrics (courtesy of www.songmeanings.net)
he bought a sterilized hypo to shoot a sex machine drug
he got 24 hours to shoot all paulenes
between the legs
he'll throw 96 tears thru 24 hours
sexed once every hour
johny hit and run paulene
l.a. bus doors open
kicking both doors open
when it rested on 6th street
that's when he drug a girl inside
he was spreading her legs and didn't understand dying
she was still awake
johny hit and run paulene
when he was waking up beside the bed he found clumps of hair
the last paulene wouldn't cooperate
she wasn't what you'd call living really
but she was still awake
johny hit and run paulene -
Songmeanings
That's a shame about songfile.
I however have been using SongMeanings as of late. For you Winamp users, there is also a plugin that will display the lyrics for your currently playing song.
There are some songs that I would have thought would be on there that aren't, but you can always add your own if they are missing.
