Reminds me of the south park episode
South Park already discussed this issue extensively.
-
This reminds me of...
... an episode of South Park (Night of the living homeless). Maybe they should try playing "California Love" and see where the darn critters go?
-
new southpark...
the only way to right these wrongs is to pirate physical objects... like ships off of Somalia. -Hold them ransom until our pirate heros are freed. right?

Re:Redundancy, redundancy, redundancy...
About the same way slashdot does.
If you're that worried about how you're going to get porn when the terrorists cut all the fiber to your city, you might want to watch this video. These gentlemen have done some amazing research on the subject.

Re:To avoid this..
While I don't want to undermine your lifestyle choice of not paying attention to culture, if you hurry you can still catch the South Park episode (S13E01) that my joke was referring to (it will soon go offline for a month but then come back up again):
http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/220762
Go on, it's a funny episode

Re:The simple one.
Is there a difference?
See the hands reaching for boy-junk. -
Old news
Pretty much as predicted over two years ago in South Park episodes 1012-1013 ("Go God Go") in which people 500 years in the future are using this thing to make computer screens in mid-air....

Aliens
To quote southpark goobacks: They took our jobs! http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/104259 Ironic that people are now concerned about foreigners leaving the country.

Re:Open source capitalism? o_O
No, socialism would be having the government demand that programmers write software for the greater good or be jailed. There is nothing anti-capitalist about open source. It simply turns the profit model from distribution and licensing back to performance and production. If I want software, I can pay somebody to write it. They get the money and I get the software I want, and if it's FOSS, that just means it isn't exclusive. That doesn't make it any less capitalistic or free market.
Personally I don't think any kind of protectionism is really free market, whether we're talking tariffs or patents. In a truly free market, whomever CAN produce the best product, SHOULD. Regardless of 'who thought of it first' or 'they took our jobs!' -
Re:I commend you for admitting it
Ding! Thank you, you win the gold cupie doll! When it comes right down to it, in two party politics we always wind up with a choice: Giant Douche or Turd Sandwich. I picked Obama, expecting him to fuck things up somewhat instead of a whole lot like McCain would have.
So far, he's pretty much living up to my expectations. The hype was bullshit, I knew it. He's going to shit on us like any politician, I just think it'll be less shit than we would have had from the Repubs. They scared the hell out of me too.

Cartmanland?
And the way he did it is with the brilliant "You Can't Come" technique...

What a perfect time..

Re:Atomic-scale chickens
Well we'd better hope this guy doesn't get his hands on any sub-atomic wire cutters or the atomic scale chickens will be in for a bit of non-consensual electron injection.
I guess you'd end up with human-chicken allotropes.

Re:So Yankish...
Or we could use Manatees.

Low power
Wifi usually has very low power. DECT is usually much more harmful. It is not such a good idea to keep the wireless phone on the nightstand if it is not in the cradle it keeps radio connection with.
Electromagnetic radiation can be a real, measurable hazard to health. But usually the worst offender is the radio clock on the night stand less than 50 cm away from your head. Cheaply made and poorly shielded it can have an effect on you body.
Here is to hippies:

Re:Yeah, why not steal it?
Can we get link-speak added to that Lake Superior State University list of things that must die? The links you assigned to all the words there had no special meaning to any particular word. Particularly with Slashdot's little citing engine throwing block quotes behind every one, it just makes it terribly annoying to read. Why not keep things legible and list links in an orderly fashion:
Nickalodeon
The Daily Show
South Park
MTV
TV LandSee, it's not hard.

Re:Yeah, why not steal it?

Re:So when does Comedy Central get it?
Not to mention, Red Rocket - maybe the US authorities should prosecute Wikipedia for their article with the "child porn" image...

Re:mod parent (yuk yuk) up
I think the south park episode Child Abduction Is Not Funny goes over this in depth, and is pretty +insightful and +funny.

Re:the people who push this crap
a legislature is a representation of the will of the people.
I believe that it was INTENDED to be such, sadly it seems to me that South Park summed it up very eloquently with their episode Debate 2004.
In Australia we do not even have an option to protest against the major parties, we had a person (Albert Langer) gaoled for showing people how to legally make sure their vote does not end up going to a major party. The rules were changed to "fix the loop-hole". -

Re:Just curious...
...is there anyone still denying global warming?
Is the point of contention now whether or not pollution by people are to blame? I forget where we are on the issue.
Man made global warming is Junk Science and is as real as Manbearpig.

Re:"The Dead Will Rise"
You don't even need to grow up in society to be a healthy person. That's how you can homeschool your children.
Anecdotal (albeit, hilarious) evidence to the contrary?

Re:Equipment alone is useless
The opening scene of this week's South Park is a perfect example of this.

Re:south park
I don't know what site you're talking about, but the official site has three (short) commercials in each episode:
Then again, it might be region-related. -
Re:Goooo Unions!
Ah but apparently they can compete... by cheating.

Change Mister, can you spare some change?
Oh my gawd now I've become one of them.

Not a big deal?

obligatory southpark reference

Re:Does it come with Hooked on Phonix too?
No but it comes with a complimentary copy of "Hooked On Monkey Fonics". If your monkey arrived in the box dead, call 1-800-555-4500 to get a new monkey. Ready? Let's begin."

Re:Like intentionally uncomfortable benches
What society should be doing it helping these people. You can't just treat them like pests and hope they go away. They're still people, they just don't have a home.
Let 'em eat California...

Re:Look on the bright side...
Republicans and Democrats time and time again take all the blame for those truly responsible for all our problems... Crab People.

Re:Wow, the target for more strawmen arguments...
I would recommend you watch the south park episode on the matter.

Re:Encrypt everything. ALL of it.
From what I've heard the snoops care more about who is talking to who than about what's actually being said. Mapping social networks and all that.
How do you want to find out these social networks? By IPs? If everything is encrypted as he said, how do you want to make the difference between a chat and a P2P connection (whose clients don't know themselves either)? What we would need to eliminate are "mapped social networks" as MySpace and others. Have a look at this Southpark episode. -

Re:Where do I sign up?
Go here and watch Episode 11 of Season 5 of South Park.
Only then will you understand. -
Re:and this is important... WHY?
Have you played the Lemmiwinks game?
