Re:Not surprising.
No. This is wildly untrue. There's huge amounts of science kits and craft stuff. There's some action figures, but really not that much. There's actually a large variety of toys, and given that Target has a smaller selection, a ToysRUs has all the toys a Target will have.
They didn't do anything wrong, just the business model was outdated. It went the way of camera stores or bookstores. The way BestBuy or Fry's will go sometime in the next decade...swallowed by Amazon.com (and to a lesser extent, Walmart/Target). It costs a little bit more, and busy parents would rather order something online than drive 15 minutes down the road (or at least, that's how I am).

After Trump....
Sadly, after Trump's massive cuts to science, miniature was the best they could do. I believe they have the below list of experiments to choose from..

Re:There's no winning with the feminist crowd...
Try to find a microscope or science kit that ISN'T marketed exclusively toward boys.
This I've got to see.
Nothing marketed to a specific gender here on the first page.
Thats Toys'R'Us, pretty much the gold standard example of marketing towards children... So we see that you can't actually show a gender bias in science kits. You lied. You imagined it. Doesn't matter what the reason is, in either case the core of your argument is so blatantly false that you definitely should have known. We can only conclude that you are willfully ignorant due to motives unrelated to being accurate.
Now what sort of weight should we put on the statements of people such as yourself whose motives are unrelated to being accurate? Zero. None. Nada. We should in fact ignore your arguments and statements with extreme prejudice because it is seemingly only with prejudice that you make statements. -

WTF are you on about? I did a search of ToysrUs and didn't seen a single science toy that was "marketed exclusively to boys."
http://www.toysrus.com/family/...
http://www.toysrus.com/family/...Aside from 3-4 (out of of over 100) of the science kits having pictures of boys on the box, I don't get how these are somehow only aimed at boys. And the microscopes seem completely gender neutral, not even pics of boys on the boxes.

Re:Slashdot and science
Speaking of anti-science sentiment growing in the US. It was sad to see this in the 'Science and Education' section of Toys 'R' Us the other day: http://www.toysrus.com/product...

Actually, TFA doesn't mention LEGO at all, the submitter just decided it was talking about LEGO when it was actually talking about building blocks

Re:Doesn't really help much
They have to be Acuras, Mercedes, BMWs, or another luxury brand, 5 year olders or newer. Anything else gets towed, and a $300 "eyesore" fee charged.
Man I need to stop by and bring my crappy looking jeep and park it on the street. I bet it would get towed in about 5 minutes and then I can report a vehicle theft and I am a big enough of a dick that I won't decide to drop the charges. It doesn't look quite as bad as my old Bronco II did but is close.
[2]: People who had "Enforcement patrol" badges on their cars stating their job was to force others to obey all speed limits by pulling out in front of people. Was amusing watching them just sit for stretches at a time just so they could pull out on someone.
Sounds like someone should be brought up on charges for attempting to intentionally cause an accident. I thought the people who put those stupid plastic yellow slow kid sign things in the street (I do mean in the street not on the grassy boulevard) in my mom's neighborhood were bad. I just run those things over with my crappy looking jeep when they are in the road.

MOGA: $29.99 plus shipping. Thank you for the tip, but I have yet to see evidence that a substantial number of Google Play users are willing to buy a $30 gamepad just to play a $3 game.

old guy advice
I'm in my 40s, and my son is rapidly approaching 3.
Get him a pretend laptop - Something like this. (although maybe not in lurid pink.)
Honestly though, keep him away from real computers. At that age, they basically amount to TVs with (mashable) buttons. The interaction is no more significant than you'd get with a Fisher Price toy, and they don't need to be glued to the computer (or TV) that early. The less time in front of a computer or TV, the better.

$Wii > $PS*3*
The Wii is slightly cheaper...
You're currently modded "Funny", so maybe I'm just being dense, but methinks you're confused about what's being compared here. Sure, the Wii is cheaper than the PS3 -- priced now at Toys R Us online at $367.95 vs. $399.99 (ignoring for now that the Wii is bundled with an extra controller and a game, whereas the PS3 just comes with a single controller and no game) -- but the GP poster's comment compares the Wii with the PS2 -- which is $367.95 vs. $129.99 -- making the Wii over twice as spendy as the PS2. So the Wii beating out the PS2's total sales record will be all the more impressive.
:)Cheers,

Why stop at Amazon, let's take it to every retailer with a review page:
If you do this to Gamespot, remember to mention how Battletoads is a better game at the end of the review.

Re:A violent game. How shocking.
That can't be an exhaustive list right?
Nine games?
Compared to almost 50 on the Xbox 360 (admittedly, it's been out for over a year longer).
Even the Playstation 3 (which has been out for nearly the same time as the Wii) has about 25 or 30.

Re:A violent game. How shocking.
This will be quite a change from the very non-violent and family friendly Wii games like "Resident Evil 4", "Alone in the Dark" and "Bully".
How could such a thing happen?
Seriously, this is hardly the first M-rated title with violence to be released for the Wii.

WTF??
The article also links to this product. They never had toys this fscking cool when I was a kid.
-
It's a toy, folks
I think everyone's getting carried away by the use of the words "insect" and "dragonfly". The article only says "larger than", not even how much larger. There's a picture here: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2627196/. They're advertised on TV. They're significantly larger than an insect, but consider also the helicopters and other flying toys available in the back of Popular Science or through Think Geek, as shown here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/. In a crowd and from many feet below, it might be hard to tell the difference between a palm-size RC helicopter and a palm-sized insectoid robot.
So the little flying doohickeys exist and are easy to get and it could've just been someone in the crowd horsing around with a toy.
Of course, this also means the government could easily have a form of the same thing with cameras and microphones, but, as has been pointed out, that's a long way to go to listen in on protestors.
The "field test" theory doesn't work either: the consequences of losing the item are too great if they're trying to keep it secret. But if the governement really uses these, no problem-o. Go buy a toy, take it to your next protest, and crash it into the teeny tiny "black helicopters". Fun for all! -

Toys R Us affiliation
Riiight...and TRU isn't aimed at kids at all.
"Toysrus.com
Founded in 1998, Toysrus.com really gained momentum when it formed an alliance with Amazon.com in 2000. The site became an online retailing success story by more than tripling its sales and number of orders from the prior year and by giving guests a terrific online toy-buying experience. Since that time, Toysrus.com and Amazon.com have introduced two additional online shopping experiences with the launch of Babiesrus.com and Imaginarium.com." -
Re:B&N online is dependent on Amazon
I believe you're thinking of Borders, not BN. BN and Amazon are still bitter enemies, AFAIK. Amazon has taken over Borders, We Be Toys 'N Shit, and a few others. BN is still separate, but a sad shadow of Amazon.com.
If you really want to Fight the Man(TM), you might want to check out Powell's City of Books -
Re:Have some experience with the PS2 online
For comparison though, it was $39.99 for the PS2's Network adapter and a card for a free game to play on-line.
If you can find the damn things for sale. None of the stores in my area have them. (Sold out) I could order it online, but then it's not "just" $39.99 anymore. (Toysrus.com has it for $49.99 plus shipping) Come on Sony, you got 1 guy making these things by hand or something? -
Toys R Us in the Amazon.com e-mall
Go to Toys R Us and tell us how many GBA games they're selling. Then tell us how many Palm, WinCE and TI-89 games.
OK... I go to Amazon ToysUs.com. Right next door in the same Amazon e-mall are Amazon Electronics, which carries the popular TI-89 advanced graphing calculator, which unlike a Game Boy can be brought to class, and Amazon Computers, which carries PCs that you can use to download games from ticalc.org. Besides, TI has some exclusive titles such as Drug War (a text adventure) that exists for TI calculators but not for the GBA (that is, unless I write a clone and release the ROM as free software).
-
Toys'R'Us already stopped using coremetrics.
Check out the graphic nav. on their home page, near the top, right side: "Important information about coremetrics"
According to T'r'us. April 20 through August 2 was how long they used the service, and they don't anymore. -
Well I guess you really like legos then.

Re:Reel.comI've had serious problems with Reel.com in the past.
I ordered a couple of DVDs, some were preordred and some were released. A few days later I received an e-mail that said that the released DVDs had shipped. About a week and a half later they show up in my box with a postmark 4 days after they said they were shipped.
I was irate. I contacted reel.com's customer support via e-mail and explained the situation and asked what it means when I get an e-mail saying a product had shipped since I obviously didn't mean that it was turned over to the shipping company.
I got back an e-mail explaining that sometimes there are problems fulfilling orders. I tried to explain that this had nothing to do with fulfilling the order and everything to do with being honest about when the product ships. I got virtually the same response about reel.com fulfilling orders. I gave up at that point.
When I got the DVDs that I had preordred, there was no postmark on the box. Heh.
I'm assuming that e-retailers think by telling someone the package has shipped that will get the customer off of their back. But as Toysrus.com just found out, it only makes things worse in the end.
My mother ordered some gifts from toysrus.com on the day after Thanksgiving. They showed up on Wednesday. We were less than impressed.

Real World ExamplesJust go to http://www.etoys.com to see a linux system in a real world situation.
Then go to http://www.toysrus.com to see a huge, balanced cluster of top of the line NT boxes in a real world situation.
We all know what the result will be, but it's fun anyway.

OK, what about this site???
After discovering that the "Customer service page" returned some error or another, I tried going to www.toysrus.com, but typed a little to fast and got to www.toyrus.com. Now, www.toyrus.com is owned by a company called '37' or somesuch, which points the browser directly at 37.com, which is "the worlds fastest, most complete search engine".
Obviously 37.com is not a toy company, or in any way related to toys, but at the very least it's not exactly the most honest way to get hits. And if I were Toys 'R' Us, I'd take offense just at the claim they make of being the fastest/'completest' engine out there, which is a blatantly false claim.
If I could actually get to the Toys 'R' Us Customer Service page, I would make myself very clear that when it comes time to shop for toys (no kids, no plans, but one of these days...), this little incident will most definitely impact whether or not I go to Toys 'R' Us.
I would urge Gus to not back down, as I see no legal reason for him to give up his domain. Specifically, the letter from Darby & Darby (rather lame name, don't you think?) mentions that Toys 'R' Us has a series of "'R' Us marks". Am I the only one noticing that Gus is using "'R' Gus"??? And what if his last name were Argus???? (yeah, dumb, but possible)
It's hard to hide my disgust at these kind of tactics, and I'm rather annoyed that Gus is backing down. Perhaps we can convince him not to back down so easily, and write to Toys 'R' Us in quantity sufficient to get their attention...
