Re:Darknet torrenting, hellloooo?
This is the perfect opportunity to move to torrents over darknets such as I2P (but not Tor). This is also the end-state of piracy, unstoppable and untraceable file sharing. It's the last platform switch you'd have to make. The only downside is that it would force media companies to begin an assault on general-purpose computing.
Not worth the effort. The only place they really bother to try holding back the tide are the torrent websites, once you have the magnet link it's such a giant whack-a-mole. The mass lawsuits have gone nowhere, the "six strikes" policy is just fluff, if you want to be the original seeder maybe you need a VPN but... here's 90 million moles to whack. And that's presumably grossly under-reporting the number of private ways people have shared the file. Even if they managed to prosecute and fine 90,000 of those - unlikely - there's like 0.1% chance of that being you. Even if you get hit with the US statutory minimum of $750 for willful infringement - also unlikely - that's like $0.75 risk-adjusted.
In most other countries you can only sue for actual damages + costs and most places an IP address is also not good enough to win a case in a multi-person household, guests, tenants etc. it doesn't stick to the subscriber. So far the advice here in Norway to these "blackmail letters" is to simply ignore them. Don't acknowledge them, don't admit to anything, don't pay anything and they will go away. They just hope that at least some people will basically incriminate themselves or pay to make it go away. That said, a lot of people do pay when there's decent online services.

Re:He's a troll because...?
Sanctuary cities do not exist and nobody on the Progressive left talks about the need for them. Right?
Actually, they don't exist, especially not in the form that the Regressive right insists on falsely portraying them. They're pretty much just a straw-man where the right makes up false claims about lawlessness and crime in order to whip up a frenzy of hysteria.
Instead, what they are, is municipalities deciding that the Federal Government needs to be accountable, and forced to behave in a manner compliant with the law, by a policy of adherence to the strictures of law informing them that the cities won't knuckle under to their capriciousness. Not new, but a lingering problem for a supposed agency enforcing the law.
Of course, I'm old enough to remember when Janet Reno was demonized for returning Elian Gonzalez to his father. The mishandling of policies on Cuba is bad enough, but apparently we're supposed to decide parental rights on a whim?
So it's hypocrisy too. Even ignoring the other protests against the federal goverment, the silence on the failures of the immigration system is very telling.
Oh, I guess you are just another AC who's full of shit. Brave enough to hide in anonymity while claiming that I am being watched, as if you are a threat.
You're confused again, there's no threat to being judged, you're merely being observed, and recognized, for what your public behavior happens to be. It's called responsibility. You should recognize that as a natural consequence of communication. You spea

Re:This is an OS
That's not exactly true.
Although Google provide a nice little re-assuring interface, the fact their entire business model depends on gathering as much data about an individual and going deep into their lives*, I don't think it's exactly turning off data gathering, but rather not providing tailored ads. I believe Google also sells data to the highest bidders, especially governments and insurance firms.
Because if their entire revenue was based on ads, what is quite interesting is that Google isn't fighting harder against ad blockers and instead, actively allow people to use YouTube / Mail / Search with an adblock / domain blocker. But the more worrying aspect is their hidden trackers.
Unlike facebook / microsoft, you can choose not to use their products and block their handful of domains. However, that's virtually impossible with Google, especially considering captcha / tag manager / syndication / Google's web api's / google user content / analytics, etc... the list goes.* as the former CEO of Google (Eric Schmidt) said: "We know where you are; We know where you've been; We can more or less know what you're thinking about".
As well as saying: "I actually think most people don’t want Google to answer their questions, they want Google to tell them what they should be doing next". -

Celsius or Fahrenheit? I presume Fahrenheit as he's an American tweeting to fellow Americans, but he's also a scientist so maybe Celsius.
125 Fahrenheit would be possible, but implausible.
125 Celsius would be absolutely ridiculous.

Re:Planning
The people that left their coins sitting on Mt. Gox's servers instead of getting them off immediately? Yes, those people are unusually stupid.
The people that are buying Lambroghinis ( http://articles.latimes.com/20... ), apartments ( http://www.uproxx.com/webcultu... ) and even castles in Estonia ( http://thebitcoinnews.co.uk/20... ) for mere pennies on the dollar don't seem very stupid.

I'm reminded of South Park here.
Butters complaining about "Floppy Penises" and "Where's the Dragons?!?" when talking about Game of Thrones. Of course Martin didn't order the pizzas and said that they would be coming and be the best! Oh and there would be five of them! An analogy of the dragons in GoT. Best three South Park Episodes ever!

Re:What worries me...
It's a thing. iPhone theft is the number one crime in NYC see http://www.uproxx.com/technology/2013/11/14-crime-nyc-iphone-theft/ among many others. As someone who lost an apple device to a mugger... this still seems like a horrible idea.

Re:"Coin exchanges have a terrible track record"
If you knew anything about how exchanges work John, you'd know that withdrawal limits are typically imposed by the banks themselves and/or AML rules.
Yeah, right. Mt. Gox regularly blames the businesses they deal with for their own problems. If you have unencumbered assets with a a real brokerage firm, and you want it converted to cash and sent to your bank account, you can have it in three days, or they're in big trouble. Brokerages routinely deliver amounts in nine figures on demand. Mt. Gox wants a delay of two weeks to over one month for just US$10,000.
And we haven't even covered the Dwolla/Mt Gox/Mutum Sigillum LLC/Homeland Security debacle. Mt. Gox apparently claimed their money-transfer business unit wasn't in the money transfer business. That didn't end well for the customers.

Re:I'll pay for 48fps 2D
I might pay for the 48fps 3D, but I would try 48fps 2D in an instant. It is about time 24fps went the way of B&W. Screw those old fart 'film buffs' who think that framerate makes movies look better'
No, 24fps makes movies look like movies, makes them look cinematic, instead of cheap video soap operas on the gajillionty MHZ TVs at BestBuy. But everyone seems to love it, describing it as "70's era BBC video" or just "The Hobbit Debuted Some Footage In 48 Fps And Everyone Hated It"

I wonder if that wasn't the case 100 years ago. I was more amused by the idea that baby toys would be more like dumbbells. instead we went the other way and they are now all designed to strengthen the brain instead of the body. Re:Prove it!
Openness != Lawlessness
Precisely. Which is why the MafiAA, who employ illegal tactics, have been caught numerous times engaging in "investigation" using unlicensed personnel who have tainted evidence, have been caught fabricating evidence, have been caught persecuting people that they knew, or should have known had they done anything resembling due diligence, to be innocent (to wit: EXTORTION), and who have been caught on a regular basis defrauding the artists they claim to "represent" not to mention cooking the books to try to claim that movies/albums/etc "lose money", ought to be forcibly disbanded by the courts.

Re:Was Not Impressed at All
What was the main plot again? I think my plot summary would have been different after each season. The show contained an inordinate amount of feints and misdirection. Each of the above "answers" prompts more questions. Personally, I prefer fiction to follow the principle of Chekhov's gun. Serial writing can't often be so consistent because the story will told over an unknown number of episodes. But Lost had a known end date with three full seasons to complete the story. I think it could have been done better. This pretty well captures my gut reaction.
