Re:Fuck this industry
The fact that you think 'boxen' is a stupid term shows you're a neophyte who has no business judging computer expertise. When I hear people using good old hacker speak, I know I'm dealing with someone who has probably accumulated some digital wisdom. Also, boxen is a useful term when encompassing everything from my photo frame to a server in one term where 'computer' is too narrowly interpreted.
For everyone else:
"Boxen: An alternative pluralization of boxes. In 60-80s hacker lingo (when hacker [meant] something very different, btw), it originated from vax/vaxen (the, at the time, correct way to [refer] to two or more vax computers). Because of this unusual pluralization, it because common to use -en instead of -es or whatever else was correct for all words ending in x or with an x sound, such as soxen or socksen for more then one sock. Box was/is usually referring to a computer (pc, server, workstation, whatever)."

Re:WW2 machiny and WW2 units of measurement
Assuming the rest of the world has access to something like Google, one might do a simple conversion with a search term as follows:
96,000 lbs = kilos
Here's a working example:
http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=96%2C000+lbs+%3D+kilos
I know this isn't a perfect solution, but I'm used to converting foreign texts in a similar fashion. This works for me in edge cases like this, however YMMV.

Only for a nonstandard definition of "misuse", and perhaps you should look at some properties of fascism.

Re:losers: everybody
As interfaces get more and more simplistic to suit 4 inch screens people jab at with their thumbs, losers are everybody.
Obviously, the goal is a single button that simply does whatever you intend - the UX equivalent of Marklar (thanks South Park).
I dub this the "Marklar Limit".

Re:The Teabagger answer:
The liberal answer is to resort to name-calling (teabagger, really?), and then to make a ridiculous statement and attribute it to an opposition leader.
First - you're absolutely right - give all kids weapons.
Second, teach them proper care and use.Stop teaching only when the child is fully familiar with the rules for handling a firearm, acceptable uses, consequences for misusing a firearm, empathy, and equally important - a sense of mortality.
By the time they've earned unrestricted access to a firearm, the firearm will be less of a weapon and more of a tool. The mystery and taboo will be gone.
That's how we do it in rural Texas

Re:Highway Robbery
I did not make that definition up. Below are a few random examples from the internet of my definition being confirmed. I challenge you to find one definition that matches your bizarre use of the phrase.
1. Success obtained through dumb luck.
2. A rare moment of high achievement from an individual/team/company that is usually unsuccessful.
"I can't believe that Johnny took home that chick last night!""Yeah, well even a broken clock is right twice a day."
The origin is apparently from the Chinese proverb saying "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while":
http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/even+a+blind+squirrel+finds+a+nut+once+in+a+while.html
This expression means that even if people are ineffective or misguided, sometimes they can still be correct just by being lucky.
Read more at http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/even+a+blind+squirrel+finds+a+nut+once+in+a+while.html#XxyDt8zIwgsX5oCy.99http://www.clichesite.com/content.asp?which=tip+2144
1. Even people who don't know what they are doing can be successful sometimes.
2. LuckySorry, but face it. You ignorantly misused the colloquialism and are now having a hard time admitting it.
If you just stop and think about it...it makes sense. Even if a broken clock is right twice a day, it still doesn't mean you should consult the broken clock, right? Thus, the meaning is, if something TOTALLY USELESS occasionally is right, a single single success should not be read into too much.
Good luck to you in your future education.

20 goto 10
Agreed. But if you're going to display code to show kids the concept of looping and impress them with just how fast computers can do things repeatedly, a simple 20 goto 10 infinite loop in BASIC is certainly a lot easier to grasp than the JavaScript Happy Birthday function that used arrays and 0-based-indexing, or the object-oriented Ruby/Facebook API example!

Re:Oh look!
It's not a Ponzi scheme... it's a Poncey scheme!
The way in which a 'ponce' may act. The actions of a pompous tosser who thinks their value is higher than it is actually worth. The actions of one who thinks they are either overly stylish, cool or smart etc, when usually their IQ is akin to a fruit and they seem like a stunt double for one of the 'idiots' on the programme 'Nathan Barley'. Usually anyone with half a brain tends to laugh at these types, but unfortunately for society, this type of action is actually accepted amongst the 'Celeb' and 'Music' industry with open arms and is also worshipped. Oh well.

Things may have been different if they'd just come out with their side of the story on why solar is bad.
Utilizing Solar energy may have issues, but I'd be hard pressed to describe it as "bad" - unless you're a fossil-fuel company. Perhaps, I'm misinformed, but all I can imagine is Mr. Mackey from South Park saying, "Solar energy is bad, m'kay."

Tinfoil hats over here!
I've got exactly what you need! Tinfoil hats are cheap. They are easy, to make too, it takes less than two minutes. Don't believe the MIT study that debunks the time honored tinfoil hat, it's a government conspiracy you know!
Don't worry, there are support groups for conspiracy theorists! Now I know like any number of other conspiracy theories those pesky facts might get in the way. However, learn from Joseph Goebbels and don't ever let logic, facts or reality get in your way. I know you look like a raving lunatic to any rational person, but not to worry, there is someone even crazier will soon show up to defend you, so cheer up!

Re:Take point?
What does this even mean?
Obviously, it's a reference to use of robots in sexual encounters (but not in the Japanese way). From the Urban Dictionary definition of point man:
"When going out with a group of male friends with the intent of picking up women together, the point man is the friend that will always jump on the hand grenade, while the wing man's responsibility is to distract the cock blocker friend."
So the robot is to be the point man, while someone else (presumably you) pick up the girl. You might need a second robot as the wing man, of course.

Very true. This is one method of providing an illusion of opposition. It is important to keep the electorate as evenly divided as possible. It makes the target much harder to see and hit.

Re:The Story of Windows Phone1. aspie
An aspie is one who has Asperger's Syndrome, which is believed to be part of the autism spectrum. Aspies, while being quite gifted verbally, have social, emotional, and sensory integration difficulties, among others. Aspie is an affectionate term, and is not meant as a put down.
My son is an aspie, so he's not so great at making idle chit chat at parties, or even at being in crowds, but he can get us home from anywhere. He says he just consults the map in his brain.

So Apple gave Samsung's lawyers a document and told them not to give it to Samsung, the company they're working for?

Re:This is the game?
I've been playing it since Friday (Sept. 20th). So far ? Fun. And haven't had this much fun since my EQ days. Put my hopes on Hellgate:London, which failed so bad it created a new word: "flagshipped"
.Messed with a bunch of other games, and then put my hopes into "The Secret World". Fail again. But Firefall is keeping me entertained WITHOUT spending money: so far, everything CAN be earned, just a lot harder that way. Which isn't really a problem for some of us. I have found that BUYING your way into 7337 status gets boring fast. I prefer the slow burn. . .

1. Something the American people just think they have.
2. Being able to make choices. Performing an action of your own choosing. Freedom will always be relative to the environment/situation which you inhabit.
3. Freedom is basically the right to be treated as an equal.
No-one has the right to exert any form of power over another, for any reason at all.
We all differ physically & intellectually; and circumstances do vary based both on merit and luck. We however diminish ourselves by using any of these 'advantages' to exert power.
Anyone who believes that they are better than another for whatever reason; is basically shallow and deluded.
If you do the right thing for the right reason and positively benefit the universe; you are far more likely to achieve happiness and essentially be at peace with yourself. Your conscience will always be there, it will always remember and it will hold you accountable. Do not delude yourself on this; the easy path often leads to great peril for your soul.
When you are doing something wrong, you are aware of it. You can lie to yourself (as many do), but what is the point? really that is just silly.
It is just as easy to make the right choice as is it to make the wrong one.
You have the freedom to disobey orders or rules (Refer norms).
You have the strength to do what needs to be done to try to benefit everything that exists.Okay; I understand that things may already be in place; things are unfortunately not that simple. however, you can change your job, you can quit the military (hopefully), you can change how you act!!
It is possible to be in charge of a 100 people and not be an arsehole. If you are in charge of that many people you have the privilege of being able to increase the happiness of all of those souls. Sure, some of them wont appreciate it (Refer: Bogan) and there may be a price to pay, depending on the action that you take (remember: small steps still lead somewhere). But, it is still the right thing - its that simple.
Do you think you are something special? - prove it"
