Flash runs on PCs that can't run WebGL
I go to get.webgl.org using Firefox 35.0.1 on a laptop with an Intel IGP and all I get is "Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the latest drivers for your video card." Badgers, on the other hand, still plays perfectly.

Re:Alternatives to Flash?
Depends what you're trying to do.
Let's take French Erotic Birthday and We Drink Ritalin and Badgers as a baseline. Or probably Smash Bros. Murder.
Does Inkscape do animation, or is it only for stills?
-
well...
You can do better.

Re:Look at my horse
Beaten to the punch, I wanted to post this. Even better - the original flash:
-
Re:Mushroom mushroom
If HTML5 is so much better than Flash, then why haven't things like Badgers or French Erotic Film been ported yet?
Because the authors of those are lazy pieces of shit.
-
Mushroom mushroom
things like Quake II and Unreal Engine 3 have been ported to WebGL/Canvas/HTML5 and the most complex thing Flash can do is move around some basic 2D shapes

Re:Bias
Really? Where is the DEMAND that no car exceed "x" MPH? Where are the calls that nobody needs a car that can go 200 MPH?
The first would be speed limits on public roads. And don't even pretend for a moment that you can argue that automobile safety isn't regulated. The second...is so rare as to be a non-issue, the only places it is a concern are race tracks, including NASCAR. Why just this year, they thought they might need to slow down the cars at Michigan because they didn't want to go too fast during races.
Private driving sessions on other tracks are also regulated, and if you want your KKR to flat out, you will have to clear it with the operator.
If Guns were so comparatively treated though, there would be a lot of changes.
I am of the belief that gun control is hitting your target. Being a SAFE owner I know how to handle my firearms, and when I let somebody handle my firearms I make sure they do the same things I do to make sure it is safe. You cannot legislate away stupidity, see here.
And yet there are tens of thousands of laws and regulations meant to deal with just that. Strangely the world hasn't ended, but many lives have been spared. You'll never know, because they don't report fires that don't happen, they don't report non-injuries, and that's just hard to believe.
Back to the article, I find it absolutely amazing that he compares using the CPSC to sue manufacturers of a non-defective product. Hell given the CPSC's ability to keep lead paint out of toys.
Give the CPSC the authority to deal with problems, and they can. Make them a paper tiger, and they can't.
Is this a surprise to you? They covered it on this week's episode of Leverage.

Re:Bias
What we already do for cars today goes well beyond any gun control measures that are even being considered. Which is odd.

For those turned off by the first link (which is a spoof flash animation), the other two are actually true.

Don't discount vector animation
With the exception of the old-style vector-animated
.swf stuffAnd it is this "old-style vector-animated
.swf stuff" that will keep Flash Player installed on people's PCs. Ever heard of All Your Base, or Hatt-baby, or Hyakugojyuuichi, or Badgers, or Weebl and Bob, or Homestar Runner? All vector-animated. Newgrounds? Entirely vector-animated until Numa Numa Dance proved the concept of FLV, and the vast majority is still vector-animated thanks to YouTube siphoning off the authors who would have used H.26x or VPx. For example, Hatt-baby is 1 MB, and it'd probably be ten times bigger if rendered and encoded in H.264. -
Re:Some of you keep forgetting something...
Cool. But as long as the rest of the rendering is still done by the CPU (vector graphics, for Christ's sake), it will still drain battery like crazy. Just look at this video (in full-screen, please)!
-
Then what for Weebl's Stuff?
Grandparent mentioned Homestar Runner. If you oppose the installation of Flash Player, then which method, whether built into the browser or as a plug-in, do you recommend for sites like Homestar Runner and Weebl's Stuff to present vector animations with synchronized audio? Or do I misunderstand you and you really prefer to install Flash Player, visit the site containing vector animation, and then uninstall Flash Player each time?

Re:Stinking badgers
Fuck canvas--it's patented Apple crap and redundant. Gimme my Scalable Vector Badgers. Forget Norway.
-
What authoring tool?
A combination of canvas, SVG, WebGL and Javascript should be enough to do most of what Flash can do.
Say I wanted to make something like "Badgers" using HTML5 technologies. What authoring tool do you recommend? Inkscape supports only still SVG, not SVG animation.

Re:Prohibitive tariffs in Brazil

Prohibitive tariffs in Brazil
I think the rest of the world will be just fine with a cheap, but powerful game console vs. an XBox360 or PS3 (and HD TV, cables, 5.1 stereo+speakers, game furniture, etc...).
I think you mean Wii. But then Brazil lays a tax that amounts to about 150 percent on game consoles, after considering the import duty, the value added tax, and the interstate commerce tax. If the tax on phones is less than the tax on video game consoles, then buying phone motherboards from a supplier in Brazil and manufacturing the console in Brazil probably saves money.

Re:Greed is Good
I seem to have struck a nerve.
Nah, I just have an allergic reaction to persistent idiots who don't know wtf they're talking about.
I, and many others want our coffee served HOT!
It is served hot: 140 degrees is hot. If you want it hot enough to put in in danger of hospitalization and multiple surgeries, that puts you in the same category as those who like driving Ford Pintos with faulty gas tanks: nobody gives a shit about you.
As far as I am concerned...you, the white mule you rode in on, and your nanny state can all be shoved up your own ass.
You should try Denmark. Socialistic as fuck, yet it's the world's happiest place and it has a per capita GDP $16,000 higher than that of the U.S.
Look, buckwheat..my 'reading comprehension thing' is beyond what you can achieve in your limited lifetime apparently.
What a surprise, you have the bum eyes.
You can be as insulting as you can achieve, but you will not change my mind about 'facts' playing an important role in the Libertarian faith-based storyline.
Fixed that for you.
