uBlock Origin does all the things uMatrix does now

That post is December 2013. The truth is that I am not using uMatrix anymore, I use uBO in medium mode. With 3rd-party cookies and all plugins blocked by default in browser, this is really what works for me.

Is this really surprising? From the company that just made accepting every update they want to push mandatory? I didn't trust Microsoft before they did that, now it's just blatant in your face "we own your computer". The fact that anyone trusts BitLocker is what astounds me.

Your Windows 10 friends are:
1) Windows Update Mini Tool. Gives you back control of your windows update experience.
2) Windows updates details. A spreadsheet maintained with every patch and what it does. Microsoft gets more and more evasive with their explanations of what their patches do, this is a good site for info. And, for heaven's sake, please please please get...
3) VeraCrypt. Based on TrueCrypt 7.1, development was continued by the community. Security audits have been done on this code base and, while no non-trivial software can ever be proven completely safe, I trust this software far more than BitLocker (which I actively distrust).

My Windows 7 laptop was safe from the whole Windows 10 upgrade debacle and the "we are going to upgrade your OS unless you happen to catch this message in time and say no" nagware because I carefully and meticulously have always gone over every windows update that goes on my computer. It was with literal astonishment that I learned that update is mandatory in Windows 10. I can't believe people stand for it. I've managed to work around it, but that was really the last straw for me. I have finally migrated mostly to Linux. I have used it for my servers and personal cloud services since the days of SLS but never really adopted for my desktop. I kept it for stuff I couldn't do in Windows. Now I've reversed that, using Linux for everything I can and only using Windows for gaming or software I absolutely can't do in Linux.

Put the following script in a *.bat file and run it with an elevated prompt.

Personally though (mixed Linux + Win7 user here) I no longer install any updates from Microsoft that aren't flagged "Security Update". Done. The added benefit of this, especially for many of my VM images, is that the winsxs folder does not balloon out of control. So it's a win-win as far as I can see. So far I haven't noticed anything missing from Win7 due to me not applying the updates. Can anyone point out something I may miss?

But seriously it's always been like that whenever I've tried it - even without the huge fingerprinting effect of the browser plugin reporting (I tried it with a completely fresh OS installation), in many cases just the combination of user agent and screen size - both reported in the HTTP headers - is unique. You might possibly blend in using some version of IE on Windows 7 on a 1024x768 or 1080p display, if you're lucky. There's been some discussion around making User-agent a bit less specific http://www.wilderssecurity.com...

Also quite interesting is that if you block as much as possible with something like noscript (which I found rather impractical to use, incidentally - CDNs are a genius idea when it comes to tracking people as it's easy to just get fed up of deciding whether you want each site to work properly and have the fonts required to display menus properly etc and just unblock all the CDNs - in the end I figured I might as well just remove noscript) then you're in a highly privacy conscious minority and therefore potentially even more unique. Sort of a black hole.

"A security researcher has discovered several laptops mysterious malware hiding in the BIOS of computers. The BIOS (Basic Input / Output System) is a set of basic instructions for communication between the operating system and the hardware.

It is essential for the operation of the computer, and also the first major software running at the start-up. An attack on the BIOS may have far-reaching consequences and is difficult to detect. Example by a virus on the desktop

Researcher Dragos Ruiu, creator of the famous Pwn2Own hacker competitions, reports via Twitter that he has discovered that flashing the BIOS can survive. Persistent BIOS malware In addition, the malware on a BIOS hypervisor, also called a virtual machine monitor (VMM) in which a virtual machine is running, and Software Defined Radio (SDR) functionality to 'air gaps to bridge.

SDR is a radio communication system in which components that are normally part of the hardware (for example, mixers, filters and amplifiers) are carried out by means of software on a computer.
