Was this video created/sponsored by Dyson?
No. https://www.youtube.com/watch?... This guy doesn't do "sponsored" videos. You should check out his channel, dude's funny as hell and is pretty smart.

I can see a re-release of Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced" song.
"Are You Diagnosed?"
"Have You Ever Been Diagnosed?"
(I prefer the Psychic TV version, personally)

Re:Truck-boat-truck
I think the model 3, even the base model, probably has more than enough power for towing, and will beat most SUVs out there.
Of course it won't be quite as quick as the Model X drag racing an Alpha 4C Spider while towing another Alpha 4C Spider, but with a 5.6 second 0-60 it should still be well under 10 seconds towing pretty much any load, with sub-millisecond traction control.

Re:No, There Aren't "A Couple of Parachutes"
It means the parachute is "totally separated" from the aircraft. This is achieved via a rocket powered charge that fires upwards, separating the chute from the craft, and increasing the chance that the chute will open before the craft hits the ground. They are definitely the preferred choice for low flying aircraft. You can learn more about them by watching Peter Sripol build his own ultralight from foam board: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7yF9tV4xWEMZkel7q8La_w/videos

Obligatory:Intel CPU Backdoor Report (May 5 2017)
The goal of this report is to make the existence of Intel CPU backdoors a common knowledge and provide information on backdoor removal.
What we know about Intel CPU backdoors so far:
TL;DR version
Your Intel CPU and Chipset is running a backdoor as we speak.
The backdoor hardware is inside the CPU/Bridge and the backdoor firmware (Intel Management Engine) is in the chipset flash memory.
30C3 Intel ME live hack:
@21m43s, keystrokes leaked from Intel ME above the OS, wireshark failed to detect packets.
[Video Link] 30C3: Persistent, Stealthy, Remote-controlled Dedicated Hardware Malware
[Quotes] Vortrag:
"DAGGER exploits Intel's Manageability Engine (ME), that executes firmware code such as Intel's Active Management Technology (iAMT), as well as its OOB network channel.""the ME provides a perfect environment for undetectable sensitive data leakage on behalf of the attacker. Our presentation consists of three parts. The first part addresses how to find valuable data in the main memory of the host. The second part exploits the ME's OOB network channel to exfiltrate captured data to an external platform and to inject new attack code to target other interesting data structures available in the host runtime memory. The last part deals with the implementation of a covert network channel based on JitterBug."
"We have recently improved DAGGER's capabilites to include support for 64-bit operating systems and a stealthy update mechanism to download new attack code."
"To be more precise, we show how to conduct a DMA attack using Intel's Manageability Engine (ME)."
"We can permanently monitor the keyboard buffer on both operating system targets."
Backdoor removal:
The backdoor firmware can be removed by following this guide [github.io] using the me_cleaner [github.com] script.
Removal requires a Raspberry Pi (with GPIO pins) and a SOIC clip.Decoding Intel backdoors:
The situation is out of control and the Libreboot/Coreboot community is looking for BIOS/Firmware experts to help with the Intel ME decoding effort. If you are skilled in these areas, download Intel ME firmwares from this collection [win-raid.com] and have a go at them, beware Intel is using a lot of counter measures to prevent their backdoors from being decoded (explained below).

Re:Any faster?
Depends on what you are doing. Is single-threaded? Multi-threaded? Needs ECC, Memory bound? Computer bound? etc.
For gaming? Nope. An i7-7700K is still faster then the iCore 9. LOL.
For rendering? Yep 2:07 vs 7:19
However, it is important to point out:
* Intel CPU's are the fastest CPU's around but you literally PAY through the nose 2x- 5x for a measly ~10% increase in performance.
* AMD's Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs have WAY better bang/buck. i.e. In Blender 2.78c AMD's Theadripper 1950X ($999) is faster then the Xeon E5 2699 v4 ($4,115). LOL.Conclusion:
Is the i9-7960X worth a whopping $700 more then Threadripper 1950X?
For many people, the answer is no. That is money that could be spent into a better GPU or more RAM/SSD.
What CPU is "best" depends on your workload.

Re:The real problem
Actually, you can play music from USB. Tunein appears to work here. And it's not accurate to say that it doesn't have "AM/FM hardware", only that it's not on the GUI at present.
Be careful about taking statements from someone who just got their car about what it can and can't do.
That said, you're right that these early adopters are basically taking part in a beta. The software stack still has features that aren't available yet. Then again, after listening to them, they couldn't be more thrilled to be taking part in a beta.
-
Re:User Interface concerns
Not really. As is well pointed out in this more recent video than the one Slashdot is discussing, because the screen is so large, and because they elevate it straight into your peripheral vision (up to the height of a dashboard, with the leftmost portion located at the right of where dashboard displays would be), it's very easy to see without taking your eyes off the road. The controls are so large that they're easy to press and don't require any "hunt and peck".
Also contrary to the Slashdot summary, the video points out that you can assign whatever controls you want to the steering wheel. I think it's important for people not to read too much into what new owners who've just had their vehicle for a day say it can and can't do, because they're all still learning. The steering wheel knobs are quite nice, they're dual-axis with click, one on each side, so there's a lot of interaction capability there (in addition to voice commands).
To be fair, while Tesla delivered basic features, it looks like some functionality has been put off to later updates. Slashdot's summary's comment about rear seat heaters appears to be currently accurate, yet they're listed as a feature of the PUP upgrade that these cars have, so they're most likely just not yet included in the interface. Radio likewise only has limited options at present, and there are a couple other quirks. But that's one of the nice things about over-the-air upgrades, you can always get improvements down the line. Think of how miserable computers would be if you were locked into just the software that they shipped with, without ever having the possibility of bugfixes and new features. On the downside, I'm sure that the ability to ship improvements down the line encourages companies like Tesla to release sooner than they otherwise would have.
Concerning the wipers: this appears to be another case of "probably a later update, but not entirely clear". On AP1-based Teslas, for example, the settings "fast" and "slow" aren't exactly wiper speeds, they're the sensitivity settings for rain-sensing wipers; "fast" will go to a higher speed with less rain than "slow" will. So you have off, auto (at your chosen speed relative), or continuous. Yet in Model 3, it's not yet clear what, if any, these settings do. Most new owners are in California and haven't even had a chance to drive in the rain yet!
Some will criticize Tesla for starting to release a car with so little information and some features not yet completed on the interface. That's probably fair. But then again, you're not going to get a lot of complaints from the people who got to get their cars this early. They're totally raving over them (one of my favorites was when one guy was asked about how he's enjoying the ride, he posted a picture of black stuff splattered across his wheel wells, with a comment stating "That's not road tar", and pointing out that he doesn't expect his first set of tires to last very long
;) ). When it comes to much-anticipated products, you can always find lots of people who would leap at the chance to be part of the beta. Which I think it's fair to say, these early adopters are. -

No, no Russian here (but they are NOT the enemy). As far as Jews? Please. Some have been my best pals but they ran from this question too:
WHY HAVE "YOU & YOURS" been KICKED from 8++ nations over time?
Argentines in the 1940 under Perrone, Spanish inquistion, France (1306), Egypt (despoiled/robbed by jews), Arabs (pre & post 1948), England (1330 Edward longshanks), Romans under titus, Russia pogroms and Germany who got rid of them from their nations.
They're ALL nazi german's too? No.
Should anyone doubt any of this see Jacob Javits' crony Rosenthal spill the beans on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4zMVZ8HnFI/ where he called all Christianity fools for helping Israel and the biggest scam of all time per their beliefs below from their Talmud. Barbara Spectre, a jew, tells everyone it's jews orchestrating the muslim migrant problem in Europe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFE0qAiofMQ/ . No migrant raping of women in Poland. Tons in Sweden. Do the math. Use common-sense. This is to get muslims and other goyim/gentiles to wipe one another out as incompatible cultures that will clash and always have.
ABOVE ALL ELSE I didn't do the saying, THEY did... how f'ing sad & STUPID!
I'm only doing what Jesus himself did along w/ Jeremiah to their OWN... trying to 'smarten them up'... can't be done apparently!

P.S.=> For a people that breed for intelligence? Not very 'smart' (egotistical & megalomaniacal if you ask me) especially writing certain things they did in their "TALMUD" which considers non-jews pigs, to be raped, robbed & enslaved!
(Sadly, which I know not EVERY jew believes in, but if fucks up the torah jews hard - but like in a prison (proof of HOW folks WILL act, like it or not) they WILL 'pool together' w/ other Khazar/Phariseee jews (who would MOW THEM DOWN, like George Soros has PROVEN he would thru the Nazi's he betrayed them for)...

Easy. Re: We'll never run out of douchebag futurists
If you took a list of jobs, ranked by the number of people who do each one, you'll have to go all of the way down to number 33 on the list to find a new job that didn't exist 100 years ago: computer programmer.
Sure, there have been technological advancements and "new" jobs, but most "new" jobs aren't new at all, because by and large the general categories have remained the same: driver, delivery man, manager, secretary, assembly line worker. It's just today that the assembly line worker snaps together circuit boards and screens as opposed to stamping car parts or sewing together buggy whips.
The website marking expert of today, (a "new job") once managed magazine and newspaper advertising. The Uber driver of today was the cabby of yesterday and the carriage driver of yesteryear, and, if Uber has it's way, replaced by the self-driving car of tomorrow.
It's been estimated that up to 45% of the jobs that people in the US currently do today are up for automation in the next couple of decades. That's 45% of the workforce, and if you're one of the those dislocated you're not going to just be able to switch to another field, because people there have also been dislocated and they're also looking for work.
All told, here in the US we're looking at employment disruptions measured in the tens of millions, and all of them occurring within the next decade.
The Great Depression had an unemployment rate of 25%. What happens when that number hits 45%?
I'd advise that everyone watch the following video, Humans Need Not Apply

I'm not a Luddite, but I am worried that our civilization is going to go through a few major tectonic upheavals in a relatively short period of time.

Agreed 110% rtb61 - how/why? Simple... apk
See subject: ANY FOOL can "bounce off/thru" a proxy server system & appear to be 'someone else' entirely (especially if they can mimic another language that's NOT their native tongue).
* E.G. - I'm SURE I'm not the only one capable of it (the proxy part) & I speak 3 spoken 'human' languages FLUENTLY (2 more 'so/so') & program in a dozen computer languages...

Re:Nope
It's interesting that even in Next Generation, racism towards Ferengi is apparently okay.
Well, considering Trek both in and out of the fictional world is highly leftist, it's not surprising that taking shots at capitalism gets a pass. It was only later like in DS9 when they started showed Ferengi in a better light.
As for monocultural, if Picard is anything to go by French culture had largely homoegnized into British culture by his time.
Within fiction, Earth was ravaged by WW3. Taking queues from WW2, Europe + Asia probably got ravaged, while geographically isolated US fared better.
Outside of fiction, English is the language of business and many Europeans do speak English in additional to their native tongue. In the event that WW3 does happen IRL, it is also very likely that continental Europe will be the worst hit, as having oceans as geographical barriers protecting the US (and UK) still apply IRL.
...or you could take the right's interpretation that Western/British/American culture IS indeed better, and that's why it survived into the 22nd (and 23rd, and 24th) century.Do remember those old Treks came before the left took "multiculturalism" and turned it into bashing white/western culture.
Prager University (I consider it the counterpart to leftist propaganda channels like Feminist Frequency) recently released a video on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Embrace and Extend
Bingo.
I'm very glad the Windows has a good way to run Linux programs. Why? Well, I don't want to waste an afternoon figuring out which three lines I need to write to handle something that any reasonable desktop OS would handle with no hassle.
By which time you've probably spent several weeks insecurely downloading Chromium to have a proper web browser, going through YouTube videos learning how to restore your desktop functionality, making sure to turn off the windows store so your kids don't auto-install some malware searching sites to try to find instructions to turn off the spyware features, probably managing to get some other drive by malware in the process. Installing antivirus software, then removing it when you find out that it had malware included.
But, cutting and pasting a three line script. That's really the time killer. Isn't it.

Re:Caught the adverts
Leave it to Drinkypoo (the #2 active troll on Slashdot) to drop such a juicy trollbomb.
* Rod Stewart's awful original version was used in the movie Patch Adams (1998).
* Russell Watson's much better cover was used as Enterprise theme song in 2001.IMO there was absolutely nothing wrong the the Enterprise theme song, except for the fact that they sped it up half-way through the series.
Both versions used on the show are fine by themselves, but the sudden change is very jarring when you're binge-watching. -

Re:This is why we can't have nice things
It is not the first drone-aircraft collision and it will not be the last. There a five identified in this report (one fatal): https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/...
There has since been one reported potential collision in Australia http://www.abc.net.au/news/201...
In any case, it does not require a collision for an unmanned aircraft to be a safety threat that needs to be mitigated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Nobody wants to wait until irresponsible use of unregulated aircraft brings down a high capacity aircraft on final before investigating options.

If you've read and understand where Wolfram is going in NKS, you should check out this video. It's the most interesting talk I've ever seen. Yeah, he talks about himself a lot, but the last third gets very interesting.

Re:Welcom to the American bargains.
"But on the bright side us poor people can now buy cheap stuff from all over the world. Didn't use to be that way. Only the most expensive stuff for us back in the day. No bargains, coupon-clippings, blue-light specials, half-price off. But one day someone said, "hmmm if I buy this instead of that, I could save money" and it's been a slippery slope ever sense."
The things that really matter are priced right out of reach such as education, health care and housing. Most all such cheap stuff doesn't add to the quality of life. George Carlin said it better, see him talking on stuff and our corporate overlords. -

OT: Space CadetsHi, this is offtopic here, but I just read an old comment by you here:
Take a guy off the street who doesn't understand science very well, tell him you'll pay him a bunch to go to the moon (or mars... mars one reality show anyone?) for 3 years, stick him in a box with some rocket noises, give him some handwavium technobabble during his "training" that explains why he won't feel the gravity difference (assuming your citizen of average intelligence even understands there would be a gravity difference), stress the fact that he'll die if he goes outside without his space suit on, and I bet you could trick someone for quite a bit of time.
That show exists, it's called "Space Cadets" and it is really hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3c5rsqqHjE&list=PL1XdIdTaqo7Ltnz0q_5gTjDS2wA5tkt-n.
In the first episodes they explain how they select participants who are unaware about physics, susceptible to groupthink, gullible, but not cowards; then they give them an education about space which is 80% accurate and 20% nonsense (including gravity generators) in a decommissioned air force base; and finally put them in a simulator while the brave participants believe they are blasting into in space...
The presenter is really annoying, but apart from that it is a great show. -

Re:Bah...This is very cool, but isn't it just an extension of what you can do once you've implemented a programmable computer in LIFE?
I think CA is by far the most interesting thing being done today in math and physics.
