Re:No 4:3 screen?
Well it's quite easy to fix. Simply put a vertical video on each side, playing in a loop, and you'll get your 4:3 display. You could also use a different smartphone wallpaper on each side, or just put an arcade bezel cropped for your display.

Re:Winter is coming
'ER', excuse me but no record cold snaps, there were record snow falls. How here is how that works, once it is cold enough to freeze water it is cold enough, the critical point how much water in the atmosphere to freeze. So whether it is -10 C or -8 C because it is 2 degrees warmer will not affect snow falls, how much water there is in the atmosphere after evaporating over warmer oceans, will. So during the last round of bullshit, this was covered, yes, expect much worse snow storms, they'll be a little warmer but they will have much more water 'er' snow to dump on your cities. This is all your are doing https://www.youtube.com/watch?... and it is actually happening, actually really happening, you have become https://duckduckgo.com/?q=lotu....

Re:Why worry about global warming
Nukes are more efficient than a massive drawn-out deployment. Ever see a nuclear air to air missile? They existed in 1957 and pack one helluva punch. That's the kind of weapon that could be delivered at Mach 2.5 or faster from a fighter jet. They'd be gone by the time you heard the sonic boom. These are smaller than the ones dropped on Japan and much more focused, so it won't flatten entire cities. There's still the problem of fallout unless they've miniaturized the hydrogen bomb.

Conflates profit and jobs.
There are always larger factors at work than Automation. Its just one of many ingredients in the mix.
What drives making 'profit' is someone else somewhere has to spend more than their income. Spending creates savings. Ultimately this question makes its way back to who is issuing the currency, their spending decisions that drives aggregate profit.
The private sector always looks to maximise profit. A market entirely left to its own devices Iteratively Revises Down the amount of profit it makes because of changes in wage bargaining power, automation. Reduce workforce with automation and you're reducing someone's paying customers somewhere. So its self-sabotaging. However this dynamic is continuously changing(never static) as innovation creates new products, regulation and protections demand higher levels of quality and currency issuers get to work in Congress/Parliament and conduct discretionary spending which raises aggregate wealth for the private sector.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Robots (broadly automation over last 250 years) always changes the mix of how many people are needed to manufacture X in industry Y. But that's just a subset of what's going on. If we look at 'work' that is both profitable and not profitable its immediately obvious that there is more work than at any point in human history that needs to be done. eg: Today's displaced retails workers could become tomorrows electronic repair technicians if regulations are introduced to reduce e-waste. Manufacturers are required to make stuff that can be un-made, fixed, recycled.
Ageing population suddenly stops being a problem if you introduce the right level of technology and job creation for instance.
Also Jobs that stick around are the ones that have a contingent element of responsibility attached to them. Its easy to automate a Lawyer but hard to change a system that demands a human accountability in the process. That is a big part of why so many jobs are not being automated but others are: A coordinator who is legally responsible but not human? How do you sue that?
I dont buy into 'robots are here so work has ended' it never will and the people selling this idea well meaning or not don't see the whole picture.

Re:This is what happens when...
So you're saying that you haven't used Windows in about, oh, 4 years? Because that's what I'm hearing.
Windows 8 was the only misstep. Windows 8.1 fixed most of the glaring issues, and Windows 10 went back to being essentially the same as 7, but with opaque, flat-colored window borders (that is, non-gradient). It still retains its same pseudo-3D on everything in the UI that it has had since Windows 95. Animations and all. All of that really boils down to left-top border color and right-bottom border color, and swapping them on mousedown and mouseup events. It's still there, and always has been. Now, it's not the same old boring-ass gray that it used to be. It's whatever preferred highlight color you choose in Settings. Mine is orange. (The maintenance man knows I like orange.) This is not the same as shitty "flat" website designs.
In fact, pretty much everything Microsoft has done with their UI design since Vista has been some sort of 3D effect. (Ever since DXGI superseded GDI+, of course.) Think about "tiles" for a second. Sure, they're flat-looking boxes on a nondescript background. But when you start to move them around, what happens? They're floating over the background. They wobble and slide around in 3D-ish space. It's like playing with a slide puzzle. And when you click one of them to open it, it reacts as if you poked it. It shrinks away from your click point and bobs around a bit. That's the opposite of flat. So, yes, the tiles themselves are flat and simplistic, but their interactions are anything but. Nearly everything in the Windows 10 UI is like that. It slides around and bobs and dips and wobbles and moves a lot. Old-school users are probably annoyed by it, and more than anything, they'd probably prefer a dull, flat interface. That's what Windows had for decades. But just because it isn't glowing in a retina-burning shade of green with heavy pseudo-3D drop shadows and dumb 1990's-era animations and bad color dithering doesn't mean that it's "flat". It means that it isn't shitty.
Also, I haven't touched the Control Panel in over a year. Settings has fully replaced it for even advanced users since release 1607.

Re:Seperation of powers
Except for where that intersects with treaties, the requirement that the destination country agree to accept the deported person, refugees, and so on, and so on.
We're talking primarily Mexico right now...
And when exactly did our treaties change with them on deporting back to them?
Hell, only a few decades ago, this wasn't even a question....hell, look for the funny references to it in Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke movie....it was just common knowledge even in the 70's.
So, did we change our treaties with these countries since then?

Re: Android, for those who don't care about secur
Racist is a term that is used by people, often themselves racist, who disagree with certain narratives.
The narrative is that black(brown, yellow, other) people cannot do certain things because of their skin color, that they actually need white people to help them, because they are incapable of doing so on their own. This narrative is found in all sorts of progressive thought. Because they(progressives) dress it up as "help", it gets a pass. And while they dress it up as "help", they aren't actually helping do anything other than advancing a narrative that is patently false, that people of color need white people's help.
And Because it is used far too much, it has lost its power so that when real racists actually show up, the message is lost because it has been diluted to the point of meaninglessness. You think I am kidding? Here is a rant calling rocking chairs racist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Leiningen Versus the Army Ants
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
"The story centers on a scrappy, no-nonsense plantation owner called Leiningen (his first name is never mentioned in the story), and his stubborn refusal to abandon his plantation in the face of a seemingly unstoppable mass of army ants, described as "an elemental -- an act of God!""See for example:
"Army Ants: Nature's Deadliest Organization"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...When I was hanging around CMU Robotics Institute in the 1980s I realized that the biggest risk of future robotics and AI could be that Hans Moravec's "Mind Children" would be some autistic messes which only regret the destruction of all humans many years after they did it (if they did not themselves also fail from lack of maintenance shortly after the last humans were wiped out).
See James P. Hogan's "The Two Faces of Tomorrow" for an example of how an AI could arise accidentally with a survival instinct that saw humanity as a threat.
For another example, I created perhaps the world's first 2D kinematic simulation of self-replicating robots in the 1980s in ZetaLisp+Flavors on a Symbolics 3600, and the very first thing the first robot did when i turned it on after making a duplicate of itself was cannibalize its offspring to make another duplicate. That was completely unexpected to me. To prevent that, I had to add a sense of "smell" to the robots who would add a scent to the parts reflecting shared identity. But that sense of surprise of my creation doing something completely unexpected (and destructive) has always stuck with me.
As in the story "Leiningen Versus the Ants", a lot of small "dumb" things working together can be very dangerous -- and as I discovered -- unpredictable from emergent behavior.
An ant-level AI embodied in an ant-size or roach-sized robot could potentially wipe out all humanity (especially if they were self-replicating -- or even just if trillions were produced as weapons).
Yet, the same sort of underlying technology could create abundance for all humans if designed towards different ends... Like to create ocean habitats or space habitats... Or even just Star Trek matter replicators or 3D printers...
It will be sadly ironic that with so much abundance potentially there for everyone we let our fears of scarcity cause us to choose to use such technologies of abundance to destroy abundance instead of create abundance.
