1-Click Blooper Playback for Original Trilogy DVD
John Sheppard writes "Normally you have to jump through cheerios to view Easter eggs on a DVD video, but DVDFILE recently launched a new online app that lets you view the 'bloopers' egg on Star Wars Trilogy Bonus DVD with the click of a mouse. Requirements: Windows, DVD-ROM drive/playback capability, and a copy of the Star Wars Trilogy Bonus DVD. DVDFILE would like feedback on this sort of feature; should we do a lot more eggs?"
Star Wars Kid
The whole series is just one big blooper nowadays.
a) it would be nice to have a link to this program... b) did anybody else get (appropriate for this story) "Nothing for you to see here. Please move along." when clicking on 'read more' ?

yes. Cross platform would be nice though

since the submitter didn't provide a link, here it is: http://www.dvdfile.com/software/eggs/trilogy.html

Patent infringment. Big time!
The link is http://www.dvdfile.com/software/eggs/trilogy.html
It requries ActiveX install to work--so only those willing to risk IE need apply.
How can I RTFA if there isn't one ?
Hmmm. Spend hours trying to get to some neat thing, or trust windows to find it for me? Maybe I better burn a "backup copy " first :)
Normally I'd just pipe up with some nonsense and hope that someone would say RTFA!!! In this case there is no FA! Perhaps a linky or two would be appreciated by those of us that actually like to RTFA.

almost any dvd player program on computer lets you choose what you want to watch from the disc(chapter by chapter wise.. i remember watching matrix dvd extras by this way.. waayyyyyy back.)
so those extras have ALWAYS been a click away on pc.
nice advert...
world was created 5 seconds before this post as it is.
Active-X control required? So now we're giving websites direct control of our hardware? All yours, kid.
Surely there's a standard cutlist format that can reference a VIDEO_TS folder?
My God, it's Full of Source!

You want us /.ers to use Internet Explorer to use the features on your site? Not only use, but install an ActiveX plug-in for... I like easter eggs, and I'd like you to keep up your work, but I've buried IE so far down in my menus I sometimes forget where it is... And what about us Linux users? A platform independent plug-in would be nicest. I only use IE for Windows Update and online virus scans through trendmicro.com, that's all, and that's not going to change.
My first first post, I think...
should we do a lot more eggs?
Yes.
Why was that so hard?
-Valiss
Actually "John Sheppard" at the beginning of the submission is the link...very cleverly hidden! Almost like an easter egg itself!
Can someone please describe the easter eg and how you would normally get to it. I have seen some dvds where you have to try and select a seemingly innocent graphic or a certain sequence of selections, but to make a service like this I get the feeling that the Star Wars bloopers are much much harder to get to.
Philosophy.
Just go to title 36 on the bonus DVD.
No messing with pressing 1138 on the remote, something that has never worked for me.

no thanks.. am vegetarian..

I'd really love this for DVDs with virtually unnavigable menus. For example, it takes a lot of work to get to any of the special features on the Memento Special Edition DVD set (or the movie itself if you miss/lose the post-it note it comes with) because they thought it would be cute to test your memory to get to everything. Or, as is the case of the first Harry Potter DVD, when they make you play inane games every time you want to see a particular feature. Can you guys do stuff for that?
Doesn't this violate the DMCA in some way? LucasArts make some very cool stuff but they can be very litigous. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the suits start bristling at this and the letters start flying.
Despite the fact that you're accessing the content on a DVD you purchased for the sake of accessing the content on it.

...now THAT was an outtake!
If I'm paying for a movie I want to be able to get to all of the functionality any time I want and not have to mess around to access hidden features. It's "fun" maybe once to a certain kind of person - I'm not interested in the puzzle aspect, just get me to the Bytor 'toon NOW dammit!
What are you listening to? (http://megamanic.blogetery.com/)
My bad, It's the last title on the disc, which is 38, not 36.

is windoze a necessary evil to unlock the goodness of starwars? (without wasting massive amounts of time)
Get your torrents...
Try putting the Star Wars DVD in a regular player and see if you can find this easter egg.
They should make it 0.999999999 clicks instead to get around the patent.

If you remember those old easter eggs in old versions of excel (where you could fly around), the way to get to those easter eggs wasn't very easy and IMO would be basically impossible to discover without looking it up on the web. So I can't say that they've made this specific egg way too hard to find.
I mean, Jar Jar's in a lot of scenes

Hi! I make Firefox Plug-ins. Check 'em out @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-mp3-podcaster/
Use movix instead, or geexbox, or one of several other knoppix-style cds which include it. Or compile the descrambler off a t-shirt.
I am trolling
Silly me! There I was using my CD-ROM drive on Mandrake looking for the Easter Egg on my Matrix Reloaded DVD!
Free Firefox news reader.
Just bypass the menu ui of the dvd.
The extras still have position markers in the vob file, so you can use the low level navigation interfaces of the decoder software to jump to all strange tracks.
And i guess thats just what this software does...
HI O WISE PRINCE. WHT TOOK U SO DAM LONG?
It's a short video clip with bloopers and outtakes from the film cut between the DVD Credits. There is one of these on every Star Wars DVD accessed by entering 1138 on one of the menus.

After all , most people view DVDs on a standalone player , not on a PC. So whats the point of putting in an easter egg that 90% of the people who buy the DVD can't view?
Yep, and the first link in google tells the proper method:
star+wars+dvd+bloopers
Knock yourself out. But make sure to type 11 and not 1 and 1. And wait when it says "wait". This activex thingy is a totally redundant ad. Don't fall in the trap.
True confidence comes not from realising you are as good as your peers, but that your peers are as bad as you are.
I am confused - given that all the files are accessible via the file system, could you not find the Easter eggs by simply manually playing the files one by one?
What would be so hard about simply having a *gasp* text file saying "CD Such-and-such, play file FOO111.VOB time offset 12:34.56 for this egg".
Then you could have programs to parse that file and do the dirty work if you cannot do it yourself.

My personal favorite is in the Mallrats DVD. If you go into setup (I think) there is a robot to the side. Select the robot until his eyes light up, then hit enter. A video comes up of Kevin Smith ridiculing you for trying to find Easter eggs, telling you that you didn't actually find one, and to get out of your parent's basement and live life instead of wasting time trying to find bonus scenes in DVDs. Then he says failing that, you should go to his store in Redbank, NJ.
Small potatoes make the steak look bigger.
I have the Star Wars DVDs, and all you need to do to see the bloopers is jump to the last chapter on the DVD.
by entering 1138 on one of the menus.
Wait, so you are saying that this company came out with an app that will show me the same thing that I could get by typing 1138?
How fucking lazy have we become?! I would RTFA but I am too lazy.
