Actually, it is really hard to figure out. The top 500 list is only of those people that have bothered to register their systems with the top 500 list in the first place. If you have a system that beats all of these systems, but don't register with the group, you don't get listed.

I remember the old DEC Multia that had a pair of PC slots in the back of it. Guess what? No one used them. This machine has pretty much everything one could want built in, and if it doesn't, the device that you want to plug into it probably comes in a USB/firewire flavor. It is pointless and costly to put something like PC card compatibility into something that very few people will ever use.

Plus, if you REALLY need that PC Card compatibility, you can always go for something like this:

If these laws aren't changed now, this flap is just going to occur again then, and probably with a lot more fervor.

Don't get me wrong here, I am for keeping the laws the way they are. I just see a lot more controversy looming in the future.

Sometimes you just have to go to the right place, and for a dealership to do something as simple as this gives them good customer satisfaction, which means that the customer will very likely return for repeat business.

Then, when it does come down to actually needing fibre, you have it run, you just need to hook it up in the right places.

  17. MRI Equipment on When Shipping the Big Iron...? · · Score: 2

We actually just handled this delivery yesterday, a 3 tesla head scanner from Siemens. This piece of equipment takes up about half of a flat bed trailer, and had to be craned off of the trailer for delivery.

The move of the magnet off of the flatbed went fine, and there it was sitting outside the building, waiting to be moved in. They had some floatation pads under it that made it pretty easy to move around when air pressure was applied to them, so getting it up to the building was pretty easy... until they reached the building entrance.

Turns out they had not planned for the entrance to be a bit to short for the magnet, and it wouldn't fit through the doorway. This is a multi-million dollar piece of equipment, but no one thought to see if they could get it inside the building.

Eventually the Siemens guys decided to partially dismantle the magnet (fortunately it was just a part of the control console that had to be dismantled, and not the coils), and it fit through the entrance with about a quarter inch to spare.

With a computer, this kind of data transmission is removed, and all the chess master has to rely on is his/her own intellect.

He had just bought a harddrive and taken it home, only to find that inside the sealed box was a can of tuna. This is something so utterly rediculous, he decided to back up his case. He called the tuna manufacturer and found that the code stamped on the bottom of the can showed that the can had been shipped to the same county as the manufacturer of the harddrive.

So now it is time to go to the store and try to get a replacement. Of course, everyone knows the story. The manager refused to honor the story, even when presented with this amount of evidence.

The next step was for our doctor in question to go to a bigger regional manager and tell the story. When this manager heard the information about the problem and had looked up the purchasing history of this doctor, he immediately had a new harddrive waiting for the doctor.

I have left quite a bit out of this story, including the bit about where the police were almost called and where the doctor notes to the first manager that he makes more in a month than the manager does in a year, but you get the idea.
