When I first saw the topic, I've imagined that microsoft is involved with piping at oil industry, where "pressure test" is a procedure to find the leakage.
I take it your yamaha amp is an integrated amp...with the DAC built into it?
Do you know of any stand alone DAC's that would be good? Right now, my linux media box, with FLAC, is going out of the soundcard, to a SET Tube amp...I'd like to go the spdif route, but would need an exernal, dedicated DAC.
Yup i know, with stand alone DAC, the quality would be better. i just dont see the need of stand alone DAC yet.
from what i knew, for each model of same brand amp, the DAC chip might be different. there're many company producing DAC, if our amp is using the good one it might sound better too.
burr brown PCM 17xx is just an example of good DAC, it might be reside on your CD Player or amp.
You have to remember, when it come to "high-end" audio, logic has no place. "High-end" audio lives by a very simple rule - more expensive the gadget, the better - it does not matter if makes sense or if it really even make things better (because it is all about psychology and not physics), the cost of the gadget is what matters.
In my oppinion, Source + DAC + Amp +Speaker ar important to determine audio quality. if we know sound card contained with very poor DAC, dont let PC doing the DAC job. so that's why i strongly suggest just get optical spdif from computer.
in my real life situation, my macmini (with flac & alac audio) spdif to yamaha amp, the B&W speaker. it sound just great.

Next generation computer should have 12v plug and special cable, so that it can take 12v source from outside. What's important is the cable and socket but be different with 110v or 235v to avoid "accident".

I love old radio too, I've just purchase an old stock of mini compo? Why, I need a cheap device than has "line in" for me to record into cassete from any device.
I dont know why newer mini compo doesnt have line it, I know that it has built in CD/DVD player, but CD is not the only input aux.
unfortunately, my just purchased mini compo doesnt have "auto reverse" for it cassete deck. heh

I admit that the price singapore got to pay to Malaysia is very low, because it was signed a long time ago. It's time to negotiate better price. not too low, not too high.
Forget politics, for me, Malaysia should continue supplying water to singapore for humanitary reason. I hope both party not take any advantage such as setting pricing too high or too low.
Malaysian X-PM is quite anti Singapore, but the currrent one is not.
