>That item can be taken from the unwitting buyer by the police and returned to the rightful owner, the person it was stolen from
Interestingly, there were a couple of street markets in London that had a royal license, which meant that stolen goods bought there did not have to be returned. Bermondsey Market was one. I think Brick Lane/Spitalfields was another, but I'm not sure.
It mostly boils down to learning a new vocabulary - just as in learning a foreign language; once you've learnt the grammar, you need to slog away at the vocab before you can use it in any meaningful interaction.
In the late 80s, it was fashionable to suggest that Language graduates would make good programmers. As a late 80s Language graduate now a programmer I agree!
This is pretty much true for any encyclopedia if you're writing for anything other than a high school class
Yeah, but I removed the reference to a "Mexican Staring Frog" from the "Southern Sri Lanka" Wikipedia page, so I guess errors can creep into the Wikipedia if they're on obscure enough pages!
I live thirty yards from where Harry Stanley was shot. The police were reacting to a call from a member of the public, informing them that a man with an Irish accent was leaving a pub, carrying a shotgun in a plastic bag. The police followed all usual procedures (including shouting "Stop!", please note grandparent poster!), but were forced to shoot when Stanley (drunk) adopted a threatening stance. No matter that he was only carrying a table leg in his plastic bag. It was shotgun shaped so the police had to react the way they did! Would it be better if Stanley HAD had a sawn-off shotgun and two more policemen were dead? An unfortunate incident, but Stanley is only now dead because of his own stupidity. If an armed policeman tells you to get down, do it! Unless you're planning on shooting them first!
On the other hand, gmail refuses (or at least refused) to let me in using IE 6 on Windows. Gave me a message saying words to the effect of "Use a more secure browser".
For web applications, it's a godsend. I know it's a horrible mung (look at the source it creates on a web page), but for ease of use and speed of development, it knocks JSP into a cocked hat.
I believe Mr Biffo wrote a column called Biffovision in Edge, a UK industry Gaming magazine, up until recently. I call it an industry Gaming magazine because it contains more than just reviews, etc. It actually interviews developers and rates development tools. Oh, and it has a job section at the back!
If you use the Random Page link, you very often get a place in the US, which makes me wonder how much of the wikipedia consists of these entries!
There used to be a mention in the Southern Sri Lanka page of the Mexican Staring Frog, which as any fuly kno is a fictional animal from South Park. I removed the reference, but how much more crud is there in there?

It's like saying "Wife partially opens legs"
Not very useful, and not very interesting.

There's a syntax error in the above statement...
Ding dong
Not only that, but I get the suffix "Cultures/en-US" in the URL, which seems to mean they think only Yanks would mis-spell it!
Actual audio:
"Hellloooo ooo ooo oo? Anybody here here here here?"

And don't forget the motorcycle cop and the red indian. They were my favourites.

And here's one of the beach at Mirissa, 30km south of Galle, but very badly hit by all accounts.
A very sad event.

Yeah, as a camera tripod or something...
I'm truly, truly sorry. It's just the way my mind works.

But not if you're a sufferer, presumably?
Anyway:
Did you hear about the dyslexic devil worshipper?
He sold his soul to Santa.
I thank you... I'm here all week...

Thank you thank you for single-handedly raising the level of humour on slashdot this morning (it IS morning here, OK!)
Too bad some people don't even seem to get it...

Oh, yeah. Link to JPEGs why don't you?
Previously on slashdot...
