One aspect that seems to have been ignored by everyone is that this happened in a gated community. I used to live in a gated community in Phoenix and the only way in or out was past a guard shack. Did the Martins live in the gated community? If not how did Travon Martin happen to be walking down the street? If his family did live there how come the community watch group was unaware that he was a resident. Something does not make sense.
However. Public Defenders are assigned many more cases than they can handle so they will usually urge their clients to take a plea. You know there is something wrong when young defendants facing 60+ years in prison are offered pleas of one year in jail. If you are late teens, early twenties, and you are faced with 60+ years or 1 year, what would you do? My opinion is that way too many innocent young people plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit because they don't want to take a chance with a jury. The push a decade or so ago for "Truth in Sentencing" and "Mandatory Sentences" has filled our prisons and tied the hands of judges. First time offenders should have, at the court's discretion, a chance to change. The "Mandatory Sentence" law treats him the same as the habitual criminal. The Justice System has become the Legal System and taken the wrong fork in the road. To read about how the system now operates in Arizona, I recommend reading "Down and Dirty Justice: A Chilling Journey into the Dark World of Crime and the Criminal Courts" by Gary T. Lowenthal. The more citizens who fight the system, the harder it is for them to do any of that. What happens if/when there are 10,000,000 names on the Do Not Fly list?

I was doing communications install and maintenance for a large electrical utility company. The problem for the young workers, as we saw it, was the requirement for a very diverse experience background. Microwave radio, UHF, VHF radio, fiber optic, RTUs, computers, phone switches, DACs, mux, and much more. The employer wants to hire work ready people and are afraid that if they expend money to train a young worker the young worker will bail as soon as he finds a better offer. It's a trap. No experience, no job. No job, no experience.
With all due respect. Christianity welcomes sending me to a tormented fiery eternity if I do not believe in their flavor of religion. If you have traveled the world any, you may soon realize that the reason you have the belief set you do is because of where you were born. All your values and beliefs are taught and nurtured into you as you grow up. You are surrounded by people with like beliefs and that reinforces the indoctrination. There is nothing rational about it. You are going to believe what your parents and neighbors told you because they are the people you trust the most. This is why we will never rid the world of superstitious beliefs in invisible, magical flying friends.

Back in the days of 3 1/2 " floppy disks, I tried several tests using powerful speaker magnets and a bulk eraser for VHS tapes. They didn't harm the floppys at all. The permanent magnets would pick up the disks but the data was still readable. These were Mac disks which is probably irrelevant. I think all this fear of magnets is mostly hyperbole.
The problem with the American press, including print and broadcast media, is that it is all owned by a handful of huge companies. We are fed the same drivel simultaneously by both print and broadcast media to the extent that we soon believe it is all true. Even when it is really biased.

I have a CCW license but I also live in Arizona. Here anyone who is not a prohibited possessor is allowed to carry concealed. We believe that "an armed society is a polite society". And no, I think you will find that gun crime has decreased as a result of our liberal carry law. Only three States have given their citizens this 2nd amendment right. I applaud it.

The object is to get more than 50 percent of the people totally dependent upon government handouts to survive. The party which offers that will assure their re-election and gain more power. We are merely pawns in this struggle. I am one of the 53% of Americans who still pay income taxes. My money goes to buys the destruction of a form of government that I loved and that created the highest standard of living for it's people ever. I'm glad I'm old and hopefully I will be gone before Washington manages to totally destroy my beloved Republic.
I'll second that. The Woz was/is a genius. Both as a programmer and as a hardware engineer. I still have Apple IIs and still play with them. The Apple II got me into computers. I gave one to my then 5 year old son in 1980 and now he works in IT and make a six figure salary. I figure the Apple II is directly responsible for the success of both of us.
