I must say this is one of the greatest arcade games ever invented.
Sure, when you are new to the game, you look like a retard who doesn't know the difference between stepping left and right on a pad, but hey, you have fun. Once you get good at the game, you can draw a crowd (seriously!) and have a lot of fun. It's one of the only games that women will actually stop and look at (yes fellow geeks, I said women, got your attention now?)
For those of you who say it is expensive, go to a place like Nickel City where games a lot cheaper. Many of these "nickel" places have DDR for you to play for around 20 cents. Now that is not expensive. It would cost you about 2 bucks an hour to just keep playing. Going to a movie is more expensive than that. And just imagine how many calories you could burn! You may actually *gasp* lose weight!
A great resource for information about DDR is www.ddrfreak.com. Go look at some of the videos.
BTW, there is DDR for the playstation if you are interested. Go to your local gaming store if you are interested in getting it.
I may get flamed out of existence for this, but so be it.
Everyone here sounds like popups are the work of the devil and should be banned from the Internet. Someone needs to put things into perspective here.
I operate a Web site where popunders and banner ads are the main source of revenue for the site. The free service I offer people who go to my site is run on over 16 different servers. What pays for these servers to be online? The money from advertising. Let's face it - you don't get jack for banner ads these days. Personally i get 8 cents CPM on banners. That's nothing. Where do you look to? Alternative types of ads that do pay.
So how can I pay my bills that total nearly $3,000 a month for this "free" service (and make a profit in the end)? Popunders. This is what advertisers are willing to pay for these days. Am I a sinner that should be crusified for supporting this ad format?
The fact is, many of the sites you visit today on the Internet are ad supported. Many are just scraping by, and this is one of their main sources of revenue. Your using popup killer deprives these sites of revenue that they should be getting for you visiting their sites.
If someone puts some content out on the Internet for you to read, and puts a popunder on the page, you allowing the popunder to load is your payment for reading the information on the page. YES it is stealing from that Web site to not have their ad load. They are offering something for you, but you have to be willing to give a little something back - be that 1 second of your time to close a new window, or a few seconds where you actually consider the ad.
Nothing is free. You have to pay somehow, and on the Internet you pay with your eyes.
I see one of the other posts here claiming that popunders basically "hijacking" their browser. Some Web sites may try to lock you into popup hell where you close one window, more come up in an endless loop. Of course that is wrong, I'm not supporting that. What I do support is all the Webmasters out there who are trying to get by where their source of revenue is legitamit popup/under advertising. Just because a new window is created, that's not hijacking, come on, get real.
Like I said, just my opinion on the matter, probably be flamed like never before. Someone has to be the 'bad' guy.

I read the articles about this yesterday, and as I understand it there was a breach of their wireless lan (they don't specify what happened in the breach, but it sounded like someone did something malicious). This breach happened around a time that the person who is being charged was scanning for insecure wireless networks. If he didn't do anything malicious I don't think he has anything to worry about.
Advanced Micro Devices has slashed prices of its desktop and mobile Athlon processors just days after a similar move by rival Intel.
I purchased my new AMD XP 2000 just a week ago, and now the price drops. It seems like every time you buy any computer part, the next week prices go down.
I assume this person has a computer and that they are now moving away to college (that's what it sounds like). As a college student myself, these are some things which always come in handy:
1) Quarters Think laundry. You always need quarters. Just send a couple rolls and it should last a while. Make sure you tell her what it is for so she doesn't just go spend it
2) Tools Such as a hammer, screw drivers, etc. If you live in the dorms, no one has these types of things and they are hard to come by. Anyone who has tools is instantly popular.
3) Network Card? If this person has used dialup all their life and never had/needed a network card, they will need one now to get online while at campus.
There is a lot more, you will find many more suggestions from other posters.

Pop-Under Ads Patented

· Score: 3, Insightful
First off, the title says that pop-under ads have been patented. Wrong. It is Patent Pending. It has not been approved, so that is misleading.
Second of all, I doubt that Exit Exchange was the first company to come up with this idea. Well ok, MAYBE the first company, but not the first person. Hell, back in the days when I used Tripod, GeoCities and all those other crap free sites, they started to throw up popup ads and I used the focus() command to move them behind my visitor's browsers.
It's incredibly stupid that someone creates a language, JavaScript, and someone patents the combination of using two simple commands together. They didn't invent the language. It is obvious that the creators of the language intended for things such as that to be possible, and so much more. It's like saying in C++ that you can include iostream.h but if you "cout", oh man are we going to get you.
For those who don't know JavaScript, here is the most basic code to make a popunder:
<script language=javascript> <!-- window.open("URL"); s elf.focus(); // --> </script>
"It's $10 a month for 100 megs, no bandwidth limits (within reason)"
So therefore there is a limit. I highly recommend staying away from any company that says "unlimited bandwidth" -- because its BS. You will get charged for the bandwidth, or kicked out of their service. Anyone who has delt with a lot of hosting companies will know this is true.
The key is to keep the person's interest in your product. When they are visiting your site, they are all hyped up about this potentially great product and so they are eager to try it. But the problem is people have short attention spans. You need to catch them in the moment where they are most focused on working with your product.
You can't wait hours to send them a username and password, that whole system should be automated to send it to them immediately. Get them while they are interested in your service. I run a service [proboards.com] where someone signs up at our site, and we send them their login information. If we waited hours to send them their login info, they wouldn't be interested in what we have to offer and would have moved on to a competitor by then.

Finally, results from an unbiased source - not endorsed/sponsored by a linux company, or Microsoft. This is when you can truly say, "Hey, look. Apache beat IIS in a fair contest." and no one can complain otherwise.
By selling used books, Amazon.com is also helping to save the environment. If you are not going to use a book any more, pass it on (or sell in this case) to the next person. Don't go kill a tree just to make a brand new copy. The content isn't different.
These authors are making themselves look like real jerks in the public light. They will only get the bad PR, and Amazon will get the good.
There was also one that was out on the original Nintendo. If you bought a 4 controller adapter for it (and had 4 controllers), you could have four people all playing MULE.
MULE seriously was an awesome game, I can't begin to count the number of hours I lost to it!
What happens when people just go around the Web and every page they go to, they click that button? They would just flood these people with false requests, and they would get nothing done.
The story points out that Register.com switched to IIS. And then the idiot who submitted the story points to an article "Hackers Deface Thousands Of Domains Parked At Verisign" (http://online.securityfocus.com/news/357) about domains getting hacked from Verisign, trying to make some connection there. NetSol is now known as Verisign. Register.com is not Verisign. They are two separate companies. Now, lets review:
Register.com switches to IIS Verisign domains get hacked
Connection? None. So don't post anything that tries to make that connection.
I go to UCLA many times each week and hook up my laptop to go on the Internet. Their connection plain out sucks. You may get 10KB/sec during regular hours, 20KB/sec at night. Someone could probably download about 450mb during regular hours, and 850 at off peak hours (if they were just going constant all day and night). So thats 1.3GB/day. 1.3GB would be how many songs? Maybe 400. Unless they had friends at UCLA transfering directly over their network, then it would be quite a bit faster.. but still, 6,000 songs?
I say it's BS. There is no way in hell that a couple UCLA students downloaded 6,000 songs in 2 or 3 days. I hang out in the dorms there all the time and know what the connection is like.
If you actually go to the page and look, you will see that this is OPT IN. It's not spam like the submitter said. Everyone is going off the hook without looking at the page and seeing how it works. It works just like Post Master Direct.
Webmasters can sign up, people join different lists (OPT-IN) and then they get emails from advertisers, and the webmaster makes some money. The people opt into getting mail about things they are interested in, and can opt out at any time.
This is NOT spam. Spam is when you do not authorize the person to send you mail.
From their Web page:
"DARTmail provides technologies such as List Generator and Preference Center that allow your subscribers to opt-in and manage their subscription through branded, seamless Web forms integrated with your Web site."
Get your facts straight before posting some crap that is not true. It's sad that the/. editors would not read through the page to realize that this is not spam.
Every post that moderators have bumped up have been negative experiences. What about those of us who have had positive ones?
I have used PayPal for a year now. I have done probably over 1,000 transactions of people sending me money and me purchasing goods. I have not ONCE had a problem with their service.
I've paid for many things through PayPal and using my debit card. I have never been overcharged. I have never had funds taken out of my bank account that were not authorized. I've never had a problem. I've never had a person take my money and run.
Those who post here about their bad experiences are a vocal minority. People tend to speak up when they have a problem with a service, but say nothing when the service is good. PayPal would not be in business in the first place if they weren't doing something right.
Of course there are people who have had problems with PayPal, it happens at every company -- but I think it is unfair to PayPal to have only negative posts regarding their company moderated up for all to see when really there are many, many more happy customers than customers who are not satisfied with the service.
I'm a firm supporter of PayPal, I have done probably over $10,000 in transactions with them with absolutely no problems.
Here is the contact information for the people sponsoring the bill. I looked up their names on Google and then through this site:

I ordered some games that were imported from Japan to play on my playstation. I also was told I needed to get my PSone moded, so I purchased a boot disc that supposedly does this.
It turns out that *new* playstation games detect if you have moded your playstation, and the game terminates. Does Sony have a legal right to terminate my game that I purchased legally because I made a modification to something that I own?
I spent $200 on games that were imported and can not play any of them. I think it is pure bull that Sony can get away with something like this. I think someone should bring a suit against Sony for making products that are built to be defective.

*goes to MSN.com* *clicks the F 500 times*
Send you letters to Overture expressing your outrage over this. I've fired them off a nasty-gram. You can contact them by emailing:

The story points out that Register.com switched to IIS. And then the idiot who submitted the story points to an article "Hackers Deface Thousands Of Domains Parked At Verisign" (http://online.securityfocus.com/news/357) about domains getting hacked from Verisign, trying to make some connection there. NetSol is now known as Verisign. Register.com is not Verisign. They are two separate companies. Now, lets review:
Register.com switches to IIS
Verisign domains get hacked
Connection? None. So don't post anything that tries to make that connection.
You just scarred me for life. You bastard.
Everyone,
/. editors would not read through the page to realize that this is not spam.
It's sad that the
Every post that moderators have bumped up have been negative experiences.
I looked up their names on Google and then through this site:= lookup&checking=
