I read that as "we need more funding" talk. but but but we've only examined 0.7 percent of the worlds seas, pay us shitloads and we'll take a peek at the rest. think of all the children who could be attacked by radioactive sha..... best. thought. ever. Radioactive sharks with frikken lasers? we are so fucked... just give them the money and tell them to crack on with cleaning up the toxic waste, before it's too late!
As an Australian citizen I have to say I am ashamed of Australia's level of corruption
And so you should be. We brits have been doing corrupt fucked up government for ages, and you're very far behind, despite all the hard work that seems to be going into catching up. do you have people like mandelson, jacqui smith, gordon brown? shape up and get with it, we're all moving into a golden age of corruption, and you don't want to be left behind, do you?
Most of japan is likely urbanized, as they're a small island nation with a high population. Very little of Australia's landmass is urbanized, in comparison, as it's a small population and large swaths of desert, so while technically accurate, I doubt those population densities are a real indication of the difficulty of creating urban broadband infrastructure.
An example, New South Wales has just under one third of Australias population, Australias 'Northern Territory' is much much larger, yet has only 221,100 people.
nice one. How many people are going to wonder how goatse can possibly be 'artsy', and click the link to find out, I wonder. you've doomed thousands. I'm just glad i'm at work so I can't possibly click on it, and i'll forget all about it by the time I get home.
Thanks for the warning though, this story needs an NSFW tag.
Maybe you should have cringed, acted outraged, then not bought the product. they're just testing how much they can walk all over your pathetic ass. give em an inch and they take a foot, kind of thing. so stop taking it quietly and take your money elsewhere.
They said everything would improve the last time they got a swanky undersea cable. nothing improved. I wouldn't hold my breath for that new cable. there is a new cable provider there, that is doing tests in certain areas, no idea how they're coming along as I left za a while ago. can't even remember their name..
No idea why people are so keen on protecting Google though.
Google has a lot more trust, the general perception of them is as the good guys and microsoft as the bad guys. I wonder if this is when they start abusing that trust and lose the perception of being the good guys, but I hope not.
South Africa's largest telecoms provider, Telkom (which has been taking flak for years for its shoddy and overpriced service)
It should be mentioned that they have a monopoly on landlines and that's why they're still the largest despite all the flak. 39% state owned, and ICASA(south africa's communications regulator) is practically telkoms bitch.
I think they should put in the sidebar near the top something about the 5 last IP addresses that were used. but most people have no idea what an IP address is, so maybe just something saying "You last logged on from a different computer" or "You last logged on from a different computer, and a different computer again before that" or some plain english(or whatever default language) explaining each IP address or something.
and a frikken bright red warning if your account is suddenly accessed from a different city or country.
and yes, a part of me knows that most people still wouldn't care. but I can hope.
Maybe they think being able to easily and quickly access something to fix it is more important than organization. especially on the ISS where I imagine most things are important, if not mission critical. you don't want to spend 30 mins getting the floor board off to fix the fresh air system, sort of thing.
will this actually convince these people that the data is correct? I'm guessing not.
Didn't RTFA, but I'm guessing they don't care whether the data is correct or not, they care about money. They just don't want to have to foot the cost of being environmentally friendly, so they're trying to get the judge to say it's not their fault.
Depends on where you are. In South Africa, online play is often either on a local server, or *Latency Hell*. LAN play is much more important in places where online play is already not a serious option. they will likely lose the majority of the ZA market. I imagine this is the case for other countries where good internet access is expensive to come by.
The flash version would take more CPU usage, and not be nearly as fast, but Flash has no quirks depending on what browser you're running it in, so as much as I'd love to see flash either shape up or disappear, I don't think adobe will need to worry about this too much until browser usage evens out to HTML5 compliant browsers(read: less people using IE).
Regarding south africa, I can only partly agree. I've recently left south africa, but two of my friends work in a call center for the UKZN(university of kzn), and they need to have verbal/written communication skills. However, the UK Mobile provider 'Orange' has a call center in durban as well, and the people there were barely literate, so I guess it depends on how much the company is willing to spend on call centers.

Correlation is not Causation

what if China decided one day to the next that 300 million (about a quarter of their country) decided to go for a walk and moved to the US via Alaska
300 Million people will have to take their shoes off for border control, then get sodomized or whatever the procedure for finding terrorists is?

Makes me think of how homer tried to turn Bart straight again, in one of the simpsons episodes I can barely remember.

This is why it hurts when your character dies...

more than 35 million data records were breached in the U.S. in 2008.
;)
Pfft, nowhere near the UK yet, keep trying...
Hint: leave the laptop on a train.
