This doesn't bother me, not in the least. I can remember a day, when any use of the Internet to sell anything was abhorent. Advertising of any matter was viewed with disgust.

Now, due to the greedy bureaucratic fatcats who wish to tax the little guy to the bitter end, we might see a drop in pointless port 80 communication. (Present company excluded, of course).

I say bring it, lets clean the fat off the bone.

that it turned out my support engineer hadn't done basic troubleshooting.

Sorry Timbo, or whatever the hell you call yourself, but sometimes the truth hurts. Because of your ineptitude of hiring at the very least, an incompetent engineer, this guy got a phone call at 3am in the morning to deal with crap software.

Probably he spent the remainder of the weekend getting the software fixed and back up to speed for "work as usual" on Monday morning.

Life sucks, and you're probably in the wrong line of work. Additionally, if you can't trust your support engineer, better do it yourself. *Gasp* You might have to work longer than 9-5.

I predict there will be a great intellectual divide (interestingly, bypass normal "class" restrictions) for those parents able to provide their children with the tools of higher learning (computer) compared to those who cannot/will not.

In this way, in classic darwinism, the strong will survive, and the weak will work at burger king. If you disagree, thats fine, take a chance that I'm wrong, alternatively, supply your child with the tools to succeed.

I was given a computer at a young age, and I have provided my daughter with the same benefit.
