That graphic drivers are tied so closely to the OS bothers me. Vista still doesn't seem like an OS to me as much as a resource hogging application that I MUST have running in the background at all times.
... I have not RTFA or half of your comments, but I just care to enlighten, that the PC gaming platform has always been under fire from the Amiga (not a console, I know), the nintendo (8bit, 16bit, 64,etc), the Sega, the playstation, and/or the Xbox.
See a pattern? The computer, despite its expensive hardware, and buggy drivers, has outlived them all, and will continue to do so in the forseeable future. When all you dreamcasters and HD-DVD owners, all the atari jaguars and nintendo virtua-boys are extolling the virtue of your console, into game provider oblivion, I'll still be playing the latest and greatest games on my PC, albeit updated.
If thats really your thing, I mean, if you want to work for a maniacal tyrant who micromanages every product you work on, who uses you and spits you out, and insists that you should feel "lucky" to work for his company. I mean, really, if thats your thing, go for it. You probably like to be whipped in bed too.
As for me, I'm not the company I work for, and I'm not the building I work in. I demand higher standards from my employer, and, I get them. Its a two-way street, zealots.
Beer for brilliance. As far as I'm concerned, I'm prettier, smarter and downright hilarious when I drink. Who wrote this report, I'm going to snap his neck! Wait, I have a funny joke, let me tinkle in the corner here.. alright where was I? Oh right, I was proceeding to give my opinion on peak oil. (jokes, jokes people:) )
Team, they are dinosaurs and just don't know. The next generation (you/us) know better, and are less afraid of merging technologies (I hope). When you are in his position, don't make his mistakes.
Don't hate on EA for making decisions that increase the total value of its own company. Instead, pity the poor game programmers. Kids, I have friends who work for that disaster of a company, and I had my own chance at it. The office in Vancouver is decked out to the 9's, but you'd better be ready to sacrifice your soul to the devil. Don't even bother applying if you have a family.
Seriously, think of the programmers.
..and the AI guys, although, they don't really do any work:)
Well, gibson just shot itself in the foot. Instead of creating a rock solid relationship with one of the most popular, fresh and emerging game genre's the industry has seen in a long time, it has just bit that hand that feeds it. I highly doubt Activision or Harmonix will sign these clowns again.
But don't fret(sic) gibson, there is always "Frets of Fire" *chuckle*
Funny (to me) anecdote: My first day on my first job in the IT biz (network admin at the university I grad'd from) the old network admin was showing me the ropes, and actually telneted across the network and logged in with his root account. Needless to say my first order of business was to change the root password:)
Yeah, I have family friends who live in Nanaimo and from what they tell me, this definitely helps the gangbangers shoot eachother more effectively, y'know, without getting lost on the way. I could also make mention of the fact that they all seem to be under the age of 14, but, that would be hijacking this thread;)
And this argument has been waged for the last thirty years. Tim Sweeney is equivalent of the dirty guy standing next to a 45gallon drum with a bible in one hand, and a crucifix in the other.
Team, there is only one reason that gfx cards are so expensive. Wait for it.. wait for it.... because people will pay for it. The manufacturers of these fine products attempt to find the price in which they can sell the most amount of units for the highest price. It would follow that if less people were willing to pay that price, then it also might follow that the companies might also lower the price.
That gives lazy politicians something to do! Lets save our children from the violent video games! Instead of, oh, I dunno, managing tax reform, social problems, basically stuff you were elected to do.
Violent media has been around since the dawn of time, in the form of TV, books, sports etc etc etc. Its not going anywhere, kids, so don't worry about it. Wherever there is a market, the product will get served.
I'm the only who thought about, why not change the pictures of the base, to be wholly incorrect, or swap them around. In this way, your average civilian Joe can enjoy zooming around the military base at home, and your average terrorist Bob cannot effectively plan an assault.
Sorry you crazy kids, but this just seems to me, to be another article of people who don't understand technology (dinosaurs) reacting in whatever way their puny little brains can. Just because you teach at a university, doesn't mean you're smart.
Perhaps its unlocked once and good to go. I don't think its the consumer that is guilty of pirated chips, but computer companies that purchase elicit copied chips cheaper than from the OEM. This shouldn't affect us that much, besides a perceived increase in quality.
I disagree. I work for a company that uses Oracle Forms and Reports, and you haven't seen an ungodly platform until you've worked on that. No amount of critical genius can solve OFR's weaknesses. I can see why the company chose it (its an Oracle product, after all) but I can't wait until its dropped.
Yeah, it's that bad. I recommend a steady merge into the new technology, at a rate that is most comfortable for all involved.
I don't expect to win any points, but I "trade" movies with a couple of friends of mine, on a private FTP server. Nothing new, no DVD pre-released screeners, and I'm pretty positive I'm not impacting the bottom line of the MPAA.
Its odd though, my gf would rather go to the blockbuster and rent an old movie, instead of me downloading and burning it, even though its exactly the same quality. hmm, social aspect?

oh, man, I hate to be the one to tell you, but we're all going to die without seeing DNF regardless.... sorry
Just a thought, wouldn't it be possible to define a random state, then with a solved cube, count how many moves it took to get to that state?

Sorry guys, but my money is on the PC.

I had an interview question one time, regarding how to branch without using an 'if'. Needless to say I didn't get the job
Needless to say, now I can do it

Don't feel bad, he has probably never heard of you either.

Wait, how could you shop online to buy a computer if you didn't have one in the first place? chicken and egg!?!?
aaaaahhh *head explodes*
har, what a noob. He should uninstall life.

but heck, I'm no economist.

I'm more concerned with the idiots that allowed this to happen in their school districts.
"Want to put up security cameras on our property? SURE!"

Nothing to see here, move along.

Well I want a million bucks, and that ain't gonna happen either.

Thought I'd share
So, Slashdot is the equivilant of the supermarket rag for reporting on it then? I've become my own worst enemy.
