no gui, no. Most of the slashdot generation prolly started on nongui systems...Mine was apple][ tandy1000...I would hate to know how I would've turned out if I only had touched something from win95 up....there is something fundamental about not having the gui there.
I would really start with installs...and do it with an easy to customize system..show them you can have a full system running with very little diskspace(floppy, even)...then show them how you can add things, and end up with a full fledged desktop OS. Show them the many faces of Linux(r). And CLI is very important, specially in Linux...you aren't really a power user without it. Just my 2 cents.
ummm...this article is about x86 solaris. They are doing it. Whether or not they release the source is irrelevant to why Solaris on x86 boxes makes sense.

hardboiled has 3 of the best action sequences ever filmed. The opening teahouse scene, ending when chowyun slides through flower and blows a guy away pointblank is incredible. The warehouse scene is fast and furious. The ending hospital shootout is a masterpiece as well which took 35 days to film.
A few facts: over 100K rounds were fired during filming.
Over 300 people die in the movie, one of if not the highest movie bodycounts.
Very good movie...John Woo's first westernstyle film really. The Killer, as mentioned is a much better film plot wise.
Yes the one wear the luser posts a message on slashdot because hes too stupid to realize its just a commercial. Just the type of complete idiot that would get all in a huff as if this actor really did do that to one of this idiots close friends.
we draw the line everyday. Thats why there is a judicial system, thats why we have judges and juries. If killing somebody was always a crime we wouldnt need that. If killing somebody always deserved the same amount of punishment, our judicial system would be useless.
christ, I cant believe there are people walking around who think like you. Im sorry but there is a HUGE difference between uncapping a cablemodem and stealing tvs from bestbuy and selling them.
Another bonus: getting out of the office for a day and checking out some gorgeous women is worth it on its own merit. Sleeping with them tends to be much better, try it sometime. Oh wait, you went to Comdex...nevermind:)
by the way..the reason the slowness matters little...is Ive got hibernation working. so zero booting. I just turn it on...wait a few and bam its back where I left, open windows and all. A clean reboot takes a piece of time..specially waiting for kde to load.
along your lines i bought a panasonic toughbook cf25 p150, 48mb(upgraded to 80), 2gig harddrive for 150$
I run slack8.l *FULL* unmodified install;) I installed over a parport cdr drive. I have it run with kde. Now...granted, it IS slow...but Im never really moving back and forth between windows...usually only word processing or coding. And I don't use it that much...I'll prolly look to trim it all down a little...Hmmmm, maybe tonight. Maybe tonight.
a t1 is usually a contracted permanent line with a gaurantee to run at 1.5 24/7 up/down back/forth side/side.. A cable modem is always shared with other local subscribers in the loop and has no provisions for gauranteeing uptime or speed.
or better yet those harley trucks ;)
only if Linus lets them use the Linux name ;)
how the fuck does a 12 year old get 50$ a day?

you must be an idiot if you had to preview the latest eminem album to decide the lyrics were explicit.
