    Just because you are not aware of something, does not mean it did not happen. It is not a stretch to think that a foreign government would reach out to a candidate (or vice versa) to establish a dialog. Illegal or not.

    Chinese citizens do not really have a choice and deserve attention to CAs that do not even deserve trust in China. The view is very different from our high moral towers in the west.

    If you are booting to a BIOS system, I have found I can just dd the ISO to the USB stick after running the ISO through isohybrid. It is not always required, but it almost guarantees compatibility.

    On EFI systems, you can just format the USB stick as fat32/vfat and just copy the files to the USB stick.

    Sometimes listening to the users has limited value. Say what you will about Microsoft, but [historically] their desktop products have been rock solid and very usable. Right up until Window 8.

    Windows 8 is where Microsoft started "listening" to users. Deciding that changing Windows to function how they thought the masses preferred to operate was the better way.

    Windows 10 is a hot mess of usability and is likely the reason Linux is making gains in desktop users.

    This would have been candidacy suicide to have said something like this in past elections, but with the shit show that has been the 2016 election... it almost sounds sane.

    Of course, Johnson is not going to be elected, that is not the point. Even if this is a lie, it is the best lie have been told for this entire election.

    Maybe libel or slander. If it is too authentic looking, the production could be viewed as intentionally trying to harm a brand.

    l am not sure if it would be considered libel or slander. Videos are usually have "spoken" words but a video maybe considered as sort of a "written" record by the law.

    Nobody is truly embarrassed by the porn like until they have to watch it in front of an audience.

    It is one thing to do something privately and something entirely different to do the same publicly. Especially when there is a reasonable chance of a prison sentence for doing so.

    I am surprised to see this on Slashdot, but this bit me. VM under VMWare fusion would not boot so I spent about 15 minutes on it and eventually booted under a previous kernel.

    Normally, I do not reboot my Linux machines after every kernel update, but this was my desktop and I just want to get rid of the reboot notifications.

    RS/6000s and pSeries equipment are built like tanks. Getting 10 years out of these machines with minimal servicing is not unusual.

    2. iPad no longer charges from USB ports. Other devices, like my Garmin GPS watch does. The iPad still syncs up with iTunes, but refuses to charge.

    Motherboards that were released before or around the time that 1+ amp USB devices were the norm sometimes require an additional driver/filter that allows the USB port to go out of spec and provide the necessary amperage. This special driver is usually provided by the motherboard manufacturer.

    All iPad models require 1+ amps to charge.

    Because in rocket ships and other experimental craft, as much control as possible should be deferred to the human pilot. Even to the possible detriment of the pilot.

    If the pilot needs to purposefully destroy the craft to prevent greater harm or damage, even if it kills him, you do not want the equipment to respond with "I'm sorry, Dave. I can't let you do that."

    Actually, I have found it is exactly the opposite. Those that are against vacinations are the "free thinkers." People really need to be told "you are an idiot" and that is what is missing from education.

    Some of the twits on /. think this is about restricting freedom or having some software do the job the parent is supposed to do...

    At 8 years old, most kids do not want to see porn. On the internet, at any moment, you are one click away from the full spectrum of content. Believe it or not, some links even lie about their intended purpose. Hey kids, free candy. Kids will believe almost anything and have a level of trust that is unrealistic for the Internet.

    It's more about filtering the noise than preventing kids from seeing the "bad stuff."
